Wow, this is good. The migas taco is the best I’ve ever had, the price is phenomenal, the staff is incredibly nice … What more could you want?

In a city as packed with taco joints as Austin, it takes a really intense dedication to tacos to stand out. This stand consistently turns out tiny tortilla-encased jewels of the taco-crafters art that make it a must-visit, and a place I return to far too often. I’m not a fan of its hours(while it opens decently early at 7am, closing at 2pm is even worse than Tacodeli’s already-maddening 3pm), but it has an acceptable location in the dust-and-gravel lot next to Red’s Porch on South Lamar. Seating is fairly spartan, a minor constellation of picnic tables of which only a few sport the all-important umbrellas to warn off the noontime sun. The food is the star, yet there’s no single secret behind its success. I’m a huge fan of their tortillas, which are consistently fresh and warm, never even slightly cool or stiff. The eggs are always flawless, which is the true make-or-break ingredient in a breakfast taco. Evenly scrambled, fresh-tasting, piping hot — they are basically perfect eggs. Every time you toss in an additional ingredient, be it chicken, brisket, nopales, onions, or chorizo, it will taste great, and it will be in sublime harmony with the rest of the taco. No smothering bean overload here. They’re also stupidly cheap. Even if you get what I consider the ideal order, which is a DJ taco(eggs with brisket and onions) and a taco loco(chickens, beans, seemingly half the menu), your order will come out to a mere $ 5 even. A 2-item breakfast taco is $ 1.50, and only 25c for each extra item. I’m a die-hard Torchy’s loyalist, but even the slightly smaller tacos here still very competitive with the more famous joint up the road; my choice between the two depends mainly on the time of day. Really I have only 2 complaints: I wish they were open longer, and I wish their green salsa were a little hotter(it has a cool, avocado-ish taste with a very slight bite). Overall though, you almost can’t do better for tacos on South Lamar. Visit here pronto.

As noted, this place is NOT closed but has moved into a trailer on South Lamar across from Peoples Pharmacy. Honestly these are some of the best tacos in the city. I love a lot of taco places but the speed, price and quality make this one of the tops in town.

These are CONSISTENTLY the best tacos in Austin! I had a delicious rotisserie chicken taco with cilantro & avocado. It was $ 2. Yes! It was $ 2! I have had it several times & it was made EXACTLY the same way, was just as tasty, & did I mention it was $ 2?! I have also indulged in the migas taco — best one I have ever had, & $ 2. They have several other delicious combinations too. Get the fantastic green hot sauce, mmmmmmmm! Now if we could just get Unilocal to PLEASE remove the permanently closed tag next to the name…

Enjoyed a couple of chicken tacos and a margarita. Service was friendly, attentive. Lots of chips and salsa with refills from their salsa bar while waiting for dinner. We sat outside and enjoyed the Austin atmosphere.

I drove by the other day and this place has closed down. Seems like a Chinese food place(Taste of China?) is taking it’s place.

I saw the signs stating(paraphrasing): «Cash only» and«sorry, drive-thru out of order, order at window.» It made no difference. I remembered that this was once a food trailer and it made total sense. It was lunch and i was HUNGRy! Very very good flavors. Made to order and satisfying and cheap. Sauces were very flavorful, almost made the taco.

If this was anywhere else but Austin, it would probably be my favorite taco place in the city. Fortunately, we’re cursed with an abundance of excellent Mexican food and Tacos La Guera fits right in. It’s a small place with a huge open kitchen where you can watch them make your tacos to order, which is really cool on a fast food /drive-in. Service was great(they bring them out to you piping hot fresh), and their prices are cheap and right in line with other local taco joints. I delighted in three tacos, but first, the salsa. Their salsa is very very very good. It’s got great color and texture and a good, lingering heat. The red is my favorite, but the green is wonderful too(and a little hotter). Now to the tacos: Migas tacos were very good and cheap($ 1.50) for the good ingredients and taste. This is probably the freshest midges taco I’ve had. They cook it to order, so it’s served hot right out of the pan. Very good. I also got an egg/bacon/cheese that was tasty and HUGE. About as much filling as 2 fast food breakfast burritos. Def stop by if you’re in the area, and timing is perfect if you’re doing a load of laundry at Spin Cycle :)

I finally tried this place today. I was pretty excited once we got inside and saw the open kitchen, and surprisingly amiable décor. I got 2 Huevos a la Mex, and my dining companion 2 Migas. Everything was cooked quite well, good consistency, tasty tortillas. I can’t believe how many people rave about the salsas, though. We tried both the red and green and I found both to be utterly flavorless(but indeed quite hot). Neither compare to Tacodeli or Torchy’s salsas — or any other taco place, for that matter. I think they need some garlic, salt… something. The end result was a taco, though properly integrated with onions and peppers which tasted a bit like bland eggs. Maybe they just had a bad batch of salsa. I’ll give them another try in a few weeks.

This place is in my speed dial… I regularly drive out of my way to get tacos here & they do tacos in true Mexican street style. Get the barbacoa with cilantro & onions with a squeeze of lime(on corn tortillas, of course!) The green sauce is to DIE for, but may be too much for the gringos.

I was looking for a place to eat for lunch around my new office and saw this restaurant on the way. i decided to give it a shot and was pleasantly surprise by the very reasonable prices. The staff were very friendly and gave me suggestions on some of their best items. i decided to go with a breakfast taco and a chicken taco. as i was waiting, i was a little skeptical about how the portions would be, esp given the low prices. however, when my food was ready, i was happy to find that these were some substantial tacos. i esp like the breakfast tacos(sausage & egg) and the 2 different salsas that they have. the only downer is that they don’t accept credit card, so make sure you have cash. Or if you’re lucky, you’ll be able to get a taco if you find enough quarters under your driver’s seat.

Destiny brought us together Tacos La Guera and I am a better person because of it. I probably would have never tried there breakfast tacos, as I am not a morning person but their stand sat 2 blocks from my girlfriends work and they had a Chase ATM(my bank as they only take cash) right next to it. FREEKINAWESOME. After hearing numerous delicious reviews from my girlfriend and her coworkers I decided I had to try this bright orange stand. I am a really simple guy I just get bacon egg and cheese taco, which is really hard to mess up. But what surprised me the most about this place was the size of the taco. These aren’t those skimpy breakfast tacos that you can roll up and eat, no these are hearty filled the the brim breakfast tacos that barely leave enough room for salsa. That’s my other favorite thing about this place, their salsa is delicious it has a great kick for those that love it spicy but it also has a really good flavor. If you are looking for good cheap breakfast tacos I would recommend going to the bright orange building on S. Congress.

My only hangup about the place is they take cash only, which I hardly ever have. However, when I do have cash… I would never hesitate to spend it on tacos at Tacos la Guera. You can call them 10 min ahead of time to have the tacos ready-made by the time you want to go pick them up. They’re really friendly and the tacos are delicious. I get the bean and cheese and G tacos(avocado, chicken and cheese) So good. I just really like their ingredients. Everything seems to taste better there.

Customer service is top notch — the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The Tacos are delicious and inexpensive! Parking is a cinch in their private lot behind HEB. El Taquito on Riverside still gets my #1 pick as they have a greater variety of sauces and tacos and put fresh cheese/avacados on some of their tacos but Tacos La Guera is a good, nearby alternative.

I am writing this review as I down, in sequence, a Chorizo, Egg, and cheese taco; a bacon, egg, and cheese taco; and a DJ Taco(Brisket, Egg, Onions) — all on fresh flour tortillas, all loaded with their red and green salsas. Why I haven’t written this review long ago, I do not know. I have been going to Tacos La Guera since their stand on Lamar and Mary — at least once a week. I can not get enough of this place — and as an avid taco-eater, this place is BYFAR the best in Austin. Seriously though, this blows Maria’s Taco express out of the water. Their chorizo is definitely something to write home about — not overly greasy like most places. Their new location may put a big face on a small business, but believe me– the service and taco experience has not changed a hair. This place is a bar raiser for tacos of all types.

So I’ve seen this particular location change hands at least 3 – 4 times in the past year and a half or so. When Tacos La Guera moved in and re-painted their building bright orange, I figured it was another one of those restaurants that would stay for a couple months and be moving out. Now I pray to God that they NEVER move out. I work right down the street and am always searching for a quick bite to eat and this place has answered my prayers. Reading the reviews on here, I’m guessing they used to have a taco trailer(it sits right outside the restaurant, I think they’re looking to rent it) They serve breakfast tacos all day and make them fresh as you order. Still the wait is less than 5 minutes, more like 2 – 3 minutes. I love ordering their«mexican style»(jalapenos, onions and tomatoes) with egg. It’s a small mom and pop operation and the prices are so cheap too! THEBESTTACOS… EVER. A thing to note — they open early(I’m thinking 8am ish?) and close early, around 4pm so you better hurry and get your taco on!

So I found La Guera Taco Truck on an early Saturday morning and was really impressed with how this little deal on wheels was able to satisfy my breakfast taco appetite! Based on the reviews, I went for the egg, potato and cheese(very hearty and filling) and the egg + chorizo for $ 1.50. Extra items only $ 0.25?! Two potato egg and cheese + 1 egg and chorizo for a meager $ 4.25?! Now that’s what I call an extra value meal! And no complaints on the quality — it was very good, just needed a little salt n’ pepper n’ sauce and all was gone. The potatoes were large marge, the cheese was plentiful, and the chorizo was spicy! I’m also a flour power boy, but this time I went corny tortillas and was pleasantly surprised to see you get 2 of them to secure your feast. I think I’m going to be corny from now on. And the sauces — they’ve got red and green, they run on the thin side, a bit bland, but they pack some heat. That green sauce was HOT-HOT-HOT! Almost similar to Taco Deli’s green jalapeño n’ garlic sauce — kind of like a cool demon that sneaks up on you! So if you’re ever driving /biking /walking /running /busing /skateboarding /rollerblading down S. Lamar, keep an eye out for the litte red and white La Guera Taco Truck and stop on over. You just might find me wallowing on my hammock nearby recovering from my corny breakfast taco binge.

I just want to give this place the reckoning it deserves. When you have an early day and have to eat on the run. I order only two, one flour, one corn and get three. Do the math. ;). No cheese for me. I wish we have something like this in the Bay Area. Heck, they have it in Hawaii.

I just discovered this taco trailer a couple months ago. And it is my new favorite place to get a breakfast taco before a run at Lady Bird Lake. My first time here I ordered the egg, cheese and potato on corn tortilla and was surprised I got 2 tacos. It was explained to me that you get either 1 flour taco or 2 corn. OK, I thought I got more than I payed for. La Guera is cheaper than Torchy’s and Taco Deli just as good and about 5 minutes from Auditorium Shores. I can grab 2 breakfast tacos for 3.00 with a 100% tip and be on a bench at Auditorium Shores off leash area eating my tacos while my Pup runs around sniffing butts and completely ignoring the deliciousness I am indulging in. FYI: I usually prefer red sauce but the green sauce here is very tasty — try it even if you think you do not like it.

OK, here’s the deal. This little truck has the best tacos al pastor EVER. They come with a choice of corn or flour tortillas(you get two if you choose corn) and either red or green salsa(the green is soooo yummy — reminiscent of that green sauce at TacoDeli only much, much, much more mild). And they are $ 1.50. A dollar-freakin’-fifty for the best tacos al pastor I’ve ever had. Better than the ones at Guero’s, which cost like $ 3.50 for one of their regular-sized tacos if you order it a la carte(not the tiny ones on the appetizer menu). Not sure when this place opens, but I do know that they’re open till 2:00 pm M-F and till 1:30 pm on Sat — so you can eat here for lunch, too! As the name implies, this is just a little truck perched in a parking lot, so there’s no seating, no climate control, no tables… just you and your tacos, mano y mano. For the moment, I’m convinced that La Guera is the best kept secret in Austin. I’m movin’ down south so I can eat breakfast here every morning! Yum.
