Bad service waited a long time for the server to get to us. The wine class came to us cloudy and dirty just wasn’t a good customer service day.

I write this review update with a heavy heart…
Texas Land & Cattle was one of the first places I ate at during my first trip to Austin. I loved every bite of everything I tried. The service was amazing. I was in love with this resturant and always wanted to eat here for any reason at all. My first review below shows how much I loved this place.
Fast forward to today. From what I heard, TLC has been sold to a different owner and it really has gone down hill. The menu seems to be under continual and constant change. All of the menu items I fell in love with have been removed and replaced with more lackluster items. The few items that remain are just not as good. I don’t know if it was due to profit margin changes or what, but I swear everything is just cheaper tasting now.
On top of the food quality declining, the service is going down too. The servers are extremely hit or miss and when you miss, it’s bad. The food also takes forever to come out now. The last 2 times we visited, the entrees took almost 40 minutes to hit the table. We weren’t there at peak times either nor was the restaurant was at full capacity, so I have no idea what the issue was. I was with my impatient in-​laws one time and they wanted to just leave because it was taking so long.
I have noticed these changes over the last year. Every visit has gotten a little more sad and is slowly breaking my steak loving heart. :(I kept hoping it was because we hit the place on an off night or something, but after the last 4 visits all being mediocre, I have realized that I don’t think it is going to get better. :(
I truly hope it gets better, one day…

This place is not good at all. The steak is horrible. I am not kidding you its terrible. Do not go here. My son begged us to go here for his bday. NEVER AGAIN!

I know it’s a, steak place, but their salmon is to die for! Friendly service. Great sweet potato fries.

Man. if you go to the bar and are lucky enough to get served by Darren you will be taken care of. Darren has such good energy and a fantastic smile. He gives so much and seems to really enjoy what he is doing. We always feel so taken care of. Of course the food is awesome.

ROACHES IN FOOD! A few days ago me and my bf came here for a late lunch/​happy hour. I was so hungry and snackin away on the $ 3 chips and guac apps. Our food comes out and my bf picks up his fork and there was a ROACH ON HIS PLATE!!! NOPE! We told the manager and left still hungry but grossed the fuck out. I was so upset. As a former food service worker for a 10 years I had never seen a roach in the kitchens. Never.
Where there is one roach there’s more. Disgusting. If they plated food with a roach on it, it makes you wonder what the hell is going on in the kitchen?!
So in summary I must advise not to go eat at this establishment.

OMG, some of their foods, like soups and steaks, are just way too over-​salted for my tastebuds. i’d prefer if they added flavor instead of Salt.

The food is great! My daughter and I are new to Austin and this was the first restaurant we found close to home. We returned a month later and our server still remembered us and made us feel at home. The servers are great and I love the food and drinks. The nachos were fantastic! The restaurant has a very comfortable feel to it with a fireplace. There are also TVs at the bar. I’ll continue to return!

I get better quality steaks from HEB, the steaks at Texas Land and Cattle are tough and lack genuine flavor! Any restaurant who uses liquid smoke on a signature steak to try and create/​fake real smoked flavour, has no business being in the steak restaurant business. One of the worst steaks I’ve ever had. The sides are bland too. I won’t be back!

I have eaten here with just my wife and with small parties. Each time provides a positive experience. The entrées are created to compliment the meat portion of the plate. The chefs have always produced a properly cooked piece of meat (per my request) and are wonderfully seasoned. Another key component I find at this restaurant is the ability to hold a conversation with my dinner party without having to raise my voice or be concerned that the other diners are so close they can hear our entire conversation. This location has always been dependable to provide an enjoyable dining experience.

I came here for lunch. Since it’s a steak restaurant I ordered a steak medium rare. It came out medium. How does a steak restaurant over cook a steak?

The food on our most recent visit was not great. The smashed avocado appetizer had no flavor. The steak was tough. :(Not sure we’ll be quick to come back.

I forgot to update but wanted to let everyone know that the manager Justin called me and was very apologetic about my experience and offered two gift certificates for us to come in at a later time. He was very nice and I felt
Like he wanted to listen. However the reason this isn’t 5 stars, is because my husband and I went back last week to pick up a to go order, and also use our GC. My husband went in and our total after the GC was $ 7.00 and some change. My husband tipped $ 10.00 to the bartender for a to go order… Then proceeded to wait… wait for it…30 minutes!!! We ordered a Cobb chicken salad and a buffalo burger! That’s it!!! 30 MINS for a TO GO that we had called in 20 minutes prior. Also so there Is no confusion, the gentleman answering the phone told us when ordering to give them 15 minutes… Anyways, point is we basically paid full price for meal we had to wAit on as if we were dining inside the restaurant. :(for that 4 stars … But the food was DELICIOUS!!! The buffalo burger is AMAZING!

I really wanted to enjoy this dinner. The menu is reminiscent of the original menu and the onion strings are back. I have spent many dinners at this location when it opened, but the quality and service declined with the change in management 3 – 4 years ago.
The service was good, the food still needs work. Our Onion stings were soaked in grease and the dipping sauce was so thin it all dripped off before I could eat them. My medium-​rare steak arrived well done. Actually very well done. Manger quickly replace with a steak much closer to medium-​rare on the left side, but really medium to well done on the right side… not sure how they managed that one.

I used to really like this place, but it still needs some work. I will try it again in 6 to 8 months.

Steaks are not bad. I typically get a filet so you can’t go wrong there. The sides are good but sometimes are over cooked. The service has always been very good at the Lakeline location but the food and service the last few months has been lacking from what it has been in the past so that’s the reason for 3 stars. Sent my filet back last time doubting it was a filet so maybe there’s been a change somewhere. Well give them another try soon and hope they’ve stepped it up a little.

I consider myself a bit of a steak connosieur and I can’t speak for any other steak sold here except the smoked sirloin! The flavor is unbelievably great! Like most steakhouses all the fixings are good as well but the smoked sirloin is why I come here!

Kind of run down. The drinks were good. The server was very sweet. The food was so so. I’m really not sure what else to say. I probably won’t go back again unless they advertise new interior new menu. It’s average. Really just like every other chain steak house I’ve ever been too. I’m longing for something different. Longhorn, Texas Roadhouse, Logan’s, TL&C. Whatever.

I am completely in love with their avocado appetizer (don’t recall its name); both, my friend and I, were pleasantly satisfied with it.
I ordered a filet Mignon and its temp was right on point! I can’t really say it’s the best I’ve ever had but for the price tag, it’s well worth it. I am trying to find MY steak spot in Austin and, unfortunately, this place missed the mark.

We like TL&C.
Good food, good selection, good service.
My complaint is this– the «steak & wedge salad». My husband and I have watched this go up several dollars on the menu in PRICE & literally shrink in size. Not cool!
We still will return. But this just baffles me & prevents me from giving it 5 star. If cost goes up, fine, but why should you get less & pay more?

I used to frequent TXLC a lot back when I ate beef weekly. They had good steaks and yummy sides. Then I cut back on beef so I stopped going for many years. Who would have known that I would crave a Wedge Salad and TXLC was one of the few places that serves it.
This location, like many of their others, is dark and dim lighting. One of the few things I don’t like. Give me windows and sun. Everyone who I interfaced with was friendly and happy. Their cocktails are decent, being able to taste the liquor.
Even though I was only getting a salad, I was still served free sourdough bread. Which I must say is very good. The salad itself was less than a quarter of a head of iceberg. It was topped with bleu cheese crumble, diced bacon, tomatoes and red onions. The waiter, within 5 minutes after bringing my salad, came back with a side up of more dressing. He thought the kitchen was sparse on my dressing.
This is one of the few times I finished my whole meal. The best part, was the bill was only $ 6.00
