The Little Gym of South Austin

I love little gym. Savannah and Megan treat my son Jaxson like one of there own. He has been attending for over a year and half and enjoys and learns something each time. Ms. Savannah is fun, knowledgable, patient and good. I have almost asked if she could babysit sometime. As a parent I also enjoy the same people attending and getting to the know them and there children. The one thing is the classes are getting a little packed but other then that Jaxson and I love it. Ask for Savannah or Megan they are AMAZING

I love how sweetly the teachers interact with the children. I notice they are able to keep control of the class by engaging the children and giving them instructions so they can learn on their own as well. They have great presence, seem genuinely happy to be doing this kind of work, and from what I can tell are really quality people. Anytime a child goes off the path, very calmly and gently they are able to redirect them back into the class. I have never seen a child crying (due to bonks, missing mom, etc.) that the girls were not able to quickly and sweetly diffuse and get that child engaged in the class again. I am fully aware this is not a gym set up to prepare a child for Olympic gymnastics and at these ages, what they do is give the children confidence to use their bodies, which is much more developmentally appropriate than teaching a three year old flips, in my opinion. My son has gained so much experience from practicing on beams, bars, mats, wedges and the like that he is able to conquer any playground or climb trees and all the physical things kids should do! Our Little Gym class is a huge priority of ours, and we plan to continue as long as our son has fun.

I went here for a birthday party. All the invited kids are put in a fish bowl in the gym, and the parents, separated by glass, watch them from the foyer/​hallway area. There seemed to be several instructors and they were really great at herding the 20 or so children through all kinds of group games and activities. It seemed like a great solution for a birthday party – the healthy alternative to Chuck E Cheese of yesteryear. :)
The place is very clean and the kids had a blast. There’s plenty of parking and it’s easy to find. There’s a separate room for the cake eating. And the staff cleans up after. No fuss about it.
I think it would have helped to have more folding chairs or maybe even a few comfy couches along the back wall for those who are waiting. There is a tiny section with infant toys, which is thoughtful.

I can’t say I hate the place as my toddler liked it. But the days I went, it was over crowded and trying to tell one year olds to wait their turn seemed nightmarish. I also felt some of teachers had favorites. (That didn’t bother me as I don’t care but it was known) my child hardly ever listened as she just wanted to run around… I would get comments sometimes, almost snide remarks. Um, she’s a toddler. I also felt a lot of the parents had «cliques» again, ok, whatever, but don’t come here just to stand around and chit chat… Watch your child. I stopped taking her and never even asked for a refund. Probably paid six months and never went back. It is fun if there’s not so many kids and parents at one particular time. And my child did have fun. But you can do so many other things with your kids for the price.

Wow! This place is a rip off. I purchased a 6 class special and attended one class for $ 120.00. I called to get a refund since they advertise a WORRY FREE REFUND. I spoke to Cindy on the phone who said that she was the owner. She told me that she would only refund me $ 80.00 not $ 100.00 because she couldn’t fill in my 3 year olds space that only attended one class, because she didn’t show up again to class. She then started to read the terms and conditions word by word as if it that had any importance to me. I explained that only if you work for the Little Gym would I know that or would that make any sense. I simply knew that I read the little booklet that they gave me and because of the NO WORRY REFUND they advertise I felt good about my purchase. I mean lets get real I was paying for my child to go play in an inside playground which I was ok with don’t get me wrong. However the fact of getting a refund in the event that it didn’t work out was a pretty awesome thing. This was not the case, Cindy gave me a movie theatre example that made no sense. She explained that she was doing a courtesy by saving my child’s spot who only attended one class. Oh and before I forget I have never met Cindy, I never receive a call asking if my child would attend this reserved appointment that I didn’t make. I was told that if my child misses she can make up a class or I could get a refund. In this scenario I wasn’t able to get a full refund and the class that was reserved I couldn’t make up? I’ll take my $ 80.00 refund to not deal with this crap. You would think the «owner» would be able to give good customer service but that was a far reach. This is a classic case of bad business I will not be stepping in a Little Gym again. Local dance classes, play grounds, play dates for me and my child. Thanks for my partial refund and great service Cindy your awesome. I wasn’t able to post this without some rating so 1 star it is.

Wow! What a fun and empowering place. It is my daughter’s first time taking gymnastics. Dance classes didn’t really keep her interested but she loves it here. They keep the class interesting with games and music and even watching is pretty fun. The instructors are patient and kind and the staff members are great. I am so glad we found this place!

After only one month I was very aware that this is a place more focused on getting your money. After watching the skill set or lack of in the older kid classes it became very apparent that skill development was not a priority. I had a 3 yr old & 5 yr old and after they quoted me one price, when I tried to leave they acted as though I owed more money. Also, after observing my little 3 year old wandering around the gym without ANY teachers around helping to direct her, I was very disappointed. In basic terms, this is an overpriced play group!

We are in the bug class (my son is 9 months old). Love it! The teachers are very nice and patient. It’s great interaction with the other kiddos too!
We are definitely signing up for the next session.

The staff are fantastic.
My child is learning and excelling.
She is being taught true fundamental gymnastics in a fun and safe way.
It’s incredible to see the athlete they are coaxing out of her.
The girls who work here are focused and fully involved in what they are doing, individually caring about each child.
The facility is fun, safe, clean and you have full visibility of the entire gym as a parent.
Every other Friday night they do a parent rescue night, free care to enrollee students from 6 – 10.
Boys and girls, tell mom and dad to enroll you, every kid needs a Little Gym!
I really love this place and I’m so glad we found it for kiddo!

My toddler spent a little over 6 months here when we first moved to Austin and overall, did not have a positive experience.
Some of the teachers are terrific (thus the 2 stars) but others just seemed burnt out. I don’t like that they are always interfacing with their phones during class to play prerecorded music and lessons that could and should be done by the teachers.
Also, in our last semester, they were «trying out» new teachers. Every class, there was a new teacher (along with one of the regulars). This really bothered me, as some of the candidates were not good. For my $ 20/​class, I’d prefer my child not be a guinea pig and subjected to untrained people in a hands on job interview.
At one point, my son was left on a tall balance beam and couldn’t get off on his own. The teacher-​candidate was distracted and didn’t hear him calling for help. The way LG is set up, patents sits behind a glass wall during class, leaving me feeling helpless as he cried for help, then fell.
He wasn’t hurt, just upset to the point that he never wanted to return.
We found My Gym and haven’t looked back, though it’s a bummer, since we spent hundreds of dollars for classes here that we didn’t attend.

I can’t say enough excellent things about The Little Gym. I’ve tried all the programs with my daughter (who is almost 18 months) like Gymboree, MyGym and Little Gym is definitely the best. We are new to the Austin area, and we just fell in love with the facility and the faculty as soon as we got there.
The gymnastics equipment is far superior to other children’s gyms I have been to, and everything is always very clean (a must when you have tons of teething toddlers coming through daily).
Developmentally, the classes are right on and my daughter absolutely loves them. She goes home and always wants to practice her new skills and moves, and we love to attend the Open Gym as well. There are lots of day and time options for classes which is very helpful as I work at home and have a flexible schedule, and they are very laid back about makeup classes. I love seeing her confidence grow with every class, and I can’t wait to look into some of their other options (like dance classes and sports) when she is older.
The Little Gym is definitely on the pricier end of these type of classes, but you absolutely get what you pay for and it’s absolutely worth every penny, especially at the South Austin location. I highly recommend it to every parent I meet.

The PERFECT place to have a birthday party! I can’t say enough good things about this place! It was affordable, air conditioned, and low maintenance. They are incredibly helpful with set up and clean up and were great with the kiddos!

I love me some little gym. My daughter has taken classes every week this summer and counts down the days to the next one from the time she leaves the class door. LOVE the teachers, they’re super helpful and informative– offering advice on how to improve at home between classes. I’ve never had anything but good vibes from this place and all the kids in it. I’ll definitely be signing up for the fall semester!

My daughter finally decided, after nearly 10 consecutive years, that she was done with Little Gym. She has been there since she was 2 ½ years. She has cerebral palsy and had been in and out of hospitals in her early life. Little Gym was one of her first interactions with other kids outside of doctors’ offices and hospitals. Mr. Jose was her first teacher and he was phenomenal. She was really shy and even cried that first day because she wasn’t as «good» as the other kids. However, he gently encouraged her to participate, holding her hand, and getting the other kids to applaud her efforts. Ever since then she has loved the Little Gym and we have been there for both fall and spring semesters for about 10 years. We have seen a lot of instructors there and they have all been fantastic. Mr. Jose of course is awesome, but so is Mr. James. The other instructors that she’s had aren’t there anymore so there is no need to mention them but needless to say, they were all wonderful. We highly recommend Little Gym!!!

Amazing staff, super fun classes! They keep even the most distracted kiddos interested and engaged. Mr. James is my sons favorite ever!

My son, Kjonaas, has been attending the Funny Bugs class for a few weeks now, and he absolutely loves it. Kjonaas is generally very reserved with other kids, but his Little Gym class has really gotten him out of his shell. Mr. James and all of the other teachers are really fantastic. I’d recommend signing your little one up for a class!

The instructors at this place are miracle workers. We tried for 3 years to get our son to participate in any sport to help his social and physical skills. Nothing worked… until he was invited to a Little Gym birthday party in late summer.
During that party, headed by Ms. Rosa, I saw our son transformed. Literally. From a non-​group-​participant and unsmiling boy to a running, jumping, singing and talking-​with-​others boy. I cried (from happiness). He didn’t want to leave at the end and insisted he wanted to come back again and again.
He has now attended The Little Gym non-​stop and looks forward to it every single week. His instructors for all his sessions have been Ms. Teresa and Mr. Jose, and both of them have really helped our son «burst his bud of calm and blossom into fun, active, beam & bar loving hysteria.» They encourage him to try new things physically and support him emotionally as well.
The Little Gym is now part of our extended family, and I cannot recommend them enough.

Child Whisperers. Seriously, my kid would make Dr. Spock run up a tree, but these folks have somewhat tamed him. They all seem to have the patience of Job, and they’re just plain fun. The programs are thoughtful and never stale. We all leave with smiles on our faces. It’s rare to find so many people who really do have the magic touch with kids. The staff is always pleasant, and they seem to genuinely care about the families who come in. Wish I could give more than 5 stars.

My son recently finished up a «Super Beast» semester here with Miss Sarah, and I can’t say enough how much he (and I) enjoyed it! She is a delight with children, and they simply flock to her.
We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who recently taught a class when Miss Sarah was traveling, and she is a lot of fun, too!
ALL of the staff is warm and welcoming, and I appreciated that so much!
We definitely recommend The Little Gym. Our son is very active and outgoing and has LOVED learning new physical skills. It has made him confident in his abilities, which is key to gaining the independence he craves!
