I met some friends here for the Denver Broncos game and absolutely loved this bar. I love the feel of the old wood bar, the recliners and couches, and most importantly, the people here are fun. This bar is Bronco territory during football season. And what a great group of people they are. I’ll be back.

Went here for a Broncos game while visiting in Austin. As close to an atmosphere of being at Mile High as you can get. Pretty freakin awesome to watch Broncos games here!

The last two times I was at this place were fine, but friends and I went on December 19th(a Saturday night) and had such a wretched time that none of us are ever going back. The bartender was awful. She ignored us for ten minutes and took an additional couple of minutes to get us two pints of beer because she was grabbing things for other people. This would have been fine, except there were less than twenty people in the bar and only a few needed anything. She threw my friends change at her and then passively aggressively said, «Thanks. I appreciate it» when my friend didn’t immediately tip. She didn’t look us in the eyes when talking to us either, which was oddly condescending. All of the darts were broken so we couldn’t play, one of the pool tables was being used by two girls leaning on it to dance to the really bad music that was on all night, and the beer was kind of warm. Finally, they cleared the floor and started mopping at 1:15a, making it very awkward to sit and talk with friends. There are immensely better bars to hit in Austin than this one.

Yay, I finally found a(Denver) Broncos-style bar! I went last night and they had a free Thanksgiving dinner. I enjoyed it and agree with Dmitry K’s review; they had sofas and TVs and a nice area outback. In addition, the owner and bartender were cool. Luckily there was a UT game going on, so there weren’t many undergrads there when we were. But, overall a cool place!

Great selection. Great service. Bathrooms are fine. The patio is great, plenty of room. The front part is cool too!

Stay clear of the frat kids and this is everything you could ever want from a staple neighborhood drinking establishment. Friendly staff, pool tables, board games, dogs on the patio, cornhole, xmas lights. Fight illiteracy: learn to read huge signs and don’t get your car towed when parking out back.

This is the place to come for Denver Broncos football! Join the crowd in Orange and blue inside by the couches.

This looks like a fun and interactive bar! Here’s why they’re great… 1. Two pool tables and one foosball table. 2. Multiple couches and sofas facing the TVs 3. Great local beer selections! 4. Loyal clientele with rules and regulations on how to become a Local Mug Owner. I like how they showcase the mugs on the wall and each person has a designated number associate with their mug. 5. «If you ring this bell you buy everyone touching the bar a shot!» 6. T-shirts of the place are on sale. 7. Great specials every day. From $ 1PBR cans on Wednesdays to other discounts on drinks. 8. Multiple flat screen TVs makes this place an excellent choice to watch sports games! 9. Close to the UT campus makes this place a local favorite! 10. Great friendly staff who truly know the locals and provide excellent costumer service! Overall I had a great time here watching the game. The place has a good amount of space, the drinks are good and has fun interactive activities for their Customers.

The Local is an alright bar. It has a good number of TVs for watching sport with lots of comfortable chairs and couches. They have a pool table, foosball, cornhole, and some other games. It’s a ok bar just not for me.

Went here a couple nights ago with a few friends. Must be a local if you want good service here. From the looks of these past reviews it seems like we all have the same issue with this rude bartender. Which in my case, two rude bartenders. One was mad that she heard me incorrectly on what I order and threw glasses around as she angrily got my right order. Sorry? TF? After that incident the other bartender ignored us as we tried to order and talked shit saying -«I want to poke her eye out with an ice cube, I don’t speak bitch» OooOooo shoot, an ice cube. LOL ok, you’re dumb. And since when did please and thank you sound like bitch talk? ANYWAY, Whoever is the owner of this bar obviously doesn’t give a shit if these employees still work here. Being rude to your costumers isn’t a great way to get that good tip. I’ll leave nothing real fast.

Rude rude rude! I wish I didn’t have to rate them at all. I’ve been here plenty of times and this time the dude checking ID’s turned mine down! I’m almost 25 years old and I know it was because I have a young face. He was such a jerk about it. Saying he has been in the business a long time(because he is like 50) and he knows what a fake looks like? Dude come on. Obviously you don’t. Never going back.

Went to this place last week. Have been in Austin for 7 years and never heard of this place. It was a great little spot. They have decent beers on tap and it is a great spot near the drag. Will surely go again.

I have been going to the local for about 2 years now, and would have easily given it 4, if not 5 stars for the fairly priced drinks, and fun place to play pool. Recently however, this place has gone down. down hill. The reason for this is the short blonde bartender«manager» who has been sh*t faced the last 4 time I have gone– rudely telling people off, and just showing everyone how huge the stick up her a*s is. I am rarely one to knock an establishment due to a negative encounter with waitstaff etc. BUT this is completely outrageous. I host a weekly meeting at the local and we spend upwards of $ 300+. It is safe to say I will be changing our meeting spot for good. This«manager» or whatever you want to call this sloppy drunken mess is single handedly ruining this establishment. Until this lady is fired — I will not be returning, and sure as hell not recommending this place to any of my friends/clients in the area

Came here with a friend to see a band. It was okay… kinda frat, college-kid kinda place, so not really my speed, but it was okay for what it was.

The Local is a nice patio alternative to Hole in the Wall or Dog and Duck. Unlike the latter, it doesn’t serve food, but I understand that there’s a truck out back(it’s never been open when I’ve been there, which is curious, as I’m usually there around dinner time). There’s a cavernous inside that’s decorated like a frat house, with old couches lying around for those looking for the more intimate experience. There are many TVs for sports(the vibe overall is midway between divey and bro-ish). The back patio is a covered wooden deck with picnic benches and fans, making drinking outside in the Texas summer about 1,000 times more enjoyable. There’s a space beside the deck to play corn hole, which can be fun for groups. Beer selection is fairly big, but half of it is total crap. Again, the place is geared toward undergrads and football fans, who are conventionally not beer connoisseurs. There are, however, always several local and other craft selections. What makes the place fun are insanely cheap specials(like $ 1PBR) and this crazy gimmick called«happy minute» in which beer is dramatically marked down to $ 1 from 3:00 — 3:15 every day. The Local will, should you be willing, get you drunk on not a lot of money. Aye, but there’s the rub: with cheap booze comes frat kids, and sometimes lots of them, from the houses right across Guadalupe. If you’re(like me) obviously grad or faculty, you tend to fly right under their radar, as if they’re still scared of teachers. But everybody knows that they douche up a place simply by being there, so less popular nights are vastly preferable to busier ones. So, as a Monday-Wednesday(much cheaper) alternative to the Hole in the Wall for a beer after the grad seminar lets out at 9pm? Proceed with my blessing. On weekends or during sporting events? Well, if you are into that, also proceed with my blessing. That is «avoid at all costs» time for me.

Best bar in town! Hands Down! I don’t care what day or night you come to The Local it is friendly, inviting and fun. While I do show up on random days or night I am ALWAYS at The Local for Denver Broncos football games. This is not just a bar where Broncos fans come watch a game. This is a Broncos bar. The wall is adorned with Broncos. The Broncos fans who come and show they will be there on a weekly bases get their own orange and blue frozen mug to drink out of. The owner is a die hard fan and a good friend to everyone that walks in the door. The staff is incredible and sweet. We pack the house with Broncos fans every time the Broncos play and all Broncos fan are always welcome. P. S. I only saw one bad review below and know that lady was told three times that you can’t bring a baby to a bar over the phone before she walked in with the baby. There are two sides to every story. She really should not be posting bad ratings for staff doing their job in the face of an irate person. Just saying.

Though i’m sure it is mentioned on other reviews on here(I’m too lazy to read them), on Wednesdays this place sells Blue Ribbon beers for 1 dollar a can. Not too many bars will sell you beer for a buck a can, so this place is an instant winner of a bar. The rest of the beer though is a bit pricy in my opinion, so that’s why I rate this place a 4 out of 5 instead of a perfect 5⁄5. Great atmosphere, the people who work here seem cool, and great location being right next to UT. Looking for a more casual bar experience without the immense crowds? Well you’ve come to the right place. Edit: there are too many great deals here for this place to be only a 4 stars, so I upped the rating. I love this place so much :). Come here all the time.

Okay, I have a hard time with this. This place used to be Texas Showdown when I was something of a Mojo’s kid, so I have an automatic«you’re not the Showdown, you bastards!» bias. The Local is a pretty good little bar. Roomy, comfy seating, big patio, TVs for sports and movies, a pool table, and a few game machines. Kind of a local watering hole for campus-area people who aren’t douchey students. They have around ten beers on tap and another thirty or so by the bottle. The selection is good, if not terribly diverse, and stocks the require local brews. Prices are fair — my tab for a pair of Shiners and a pack of Parliaments was $ 16.50. Seemed like a chill place. I probably won’t go terribly often as it’s out of the way for me(I’m not really ever near campus), but it’s a nice change of pace, and that big patio will be rad during the summer. Also, there will be college hotties, so I will probably go to stare at 21 year old college boy ass. Because college ass is sexy.

Someone told me this used to be a Little Woodrow’s or is owned by the same folks… I forget. Either way, that’s a good thing. Wandered in on Game Day to get away from the craziness of Parents Weekend. Wasn’t too crowded inside or out, we opted for inside, to crash on the couch. Was it only one step up from a couch in the common area of a fraternity house? Yes, but I didn’t care, it was comfortable. They had a nice selection of college football games(also were showing some MLB) and even changed upon request. Most TVs went to the UT game when it came on, which is no surprise, and even expected for a bar on campus. I was pleased with the beer selection; I thought it was above par for a «campus bar.» I tried Lefthand’s Sawtooth Ale for the first time and now I’m an even bigger fan of Lefthand. Prices are reasonable. Both my date and I couldn’t get over the Texas beer flight for $ 7(photo attached); a great deal for 5 huge samples(I’m talking like a third of a beer for each). For what it is: a sports bar on campus, I’m a fan.
