We came here on a whim before the Trail of Lights run to grab a quick pump up drink. It was really quiet when we came here and the service was great. I enjoyed all the neat places to hang out — we got to sit on the couches in front of their big flat screen in the room behind the bar. They also have a great outdoor space with heaters on the patio. I ordered an Austin East Cider and they were reaching the end of the keg, so I got whatever what was left plus a nice new glass of cider. It was a pretty decent deal, let me tell you! I’d definitely want to come back another time when there’s live music or just to hang out for longer.

I came here before I started the Fall 2015 semester. my fun memory this year! lol I loved loved loved this place. So eclectic and cool. had a few of the speciality drinks: 1) spicy margarita — dont recall exact name but it had floating jalapenos in it and spiced rim. Absolutely delicious! 2) some drink similar to an old-fashioned. yum but it was super strong. Let’s just say I got my $$ worth on this one. and I had to order food afterward… which was great since they have Stubb’s BBQ inside of this bar. Great times, good music, cool ambiance. and they love their regulars there… someday I hope to be one.

Had a work meeting here with a boulevard ginger beer and pulled pork tacos. Try the verde sauce for some extra spice. Funky place but clean, good food and very friendly. The bar is separate from where you order food. They don’t come to your table so you will have to order two places if you want a drink and something to eat. It was very Austin! Enjoyed my time.

A Johnny Cash tribute bar housed in a former chainsaw repair shop — it’s covered in everything Johnny and June Carter Cash(ticket stubs, posters, paintings) and has a ton of rustic charm. They have great cocktails and a lot of beers on tap! Stubb’s sells food here as well! Vegetarians, they have some delicious sides and a salad! Cool outdoor seating under a 300+ year old Texas Live Oak and tons of indoor seating as well! There’s a ton of parking because of the shopping center just next to it(that houses a couple of restaurants and a nail salon). This place is so Austin. Full of charm and unique. And yet it’s not as popular as a lot of other places! Definitely give it a shot!

How can you not love this place? It is full of character and a taste of Austin culture that I hope we never loose as newer developments come in. My Seattle hometown unfortunately lost most of it’s Mean Eyed Cat’s, and became a land of look alike Starbucks. After visiting this establishment several times now, I am hopeful that Austin will be able to maintain hints of it’s local color. Mean Eyed Cat is all things Johnny Cash, and even if you are with a group of boring people, your eye will easily be diverted and entertained by the numerous diverse Johnny Cash memorabilia decorating the walls. There is ample free parking outside, and unique comfortable sitting inside and out. You go up to the bar to order, and they even have a small menu of Stubbs BBQ to order for eats. They recently didn’t have any cider on tap, but are currently updating their taps they said. My friend enjoyed a white wine, while the rest had some beers. Always a great time here. It can get crowded at the peak times. But I always seem to happen upon this place to start out an evening downtown, which is always early and slower.
