Timothy Sheehan, MD

I have a natural distrust of psychiatry due to my knowledge of political and corporate corruption and bias in the DSM and FDA. Far from «checked out» or «dismissive» — Dr. Sheehan has always treated me with respect and care, without any inappropriate attachment or being blinded by projection, as I have experienced with my mental health providers in the past. I feel heard, I feel respected, and most importantly, as a Borderline — I feel unable to manipulate Dr. Sheehan who remains serene, compassionate, cerebral — almost zen-​like in his detached but kind approach to care. Through him, with all the bitter doubts and resentments in the world, I have finally found relief through a minimal and carefully monitored application of meds, along with the life-​changing DBT Support Group at Seton Mind Institute.
Lacking ego or attachment — this thoughtful and gentle young scientist has given me and my family hope and a positive outlook that we have not experienced in my entire life.
It’s painful and difficult to live with the stigma of mental imbalance, but what is more soul-​wrenching is the ripple effects it has upon my parents, sister, son and countless others.
He has improved the life of not one, but a community of people.
In other words, the world thanks you for helping this craycray bitch out! LOL

Saw Dr. Sheehan for the first time today and I was highly impressed with him. Didn’t have any issues with him or the receptionist. He is a great doctor who knows what he’s doing and I recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Sheehan would not see me because of issues with my credit card. I make over 100K a year and have a good credit rating. Not all businesses will charge you before a visit, but it is not unusual. They wanted my debit card info upfront, when I made the appointment. My debit card is also a credit card, and I think they just swiped it wrong.
What angered me the most is that I had the money. I’ve been in situations like this before, for whatever reason the card doesn’t work, and they bill me later. Be wary of doctors that want their money before you’ve ever seen them. Beware of doctors that you have to pay to vet their competence.
They suggested I go down to the ATM across the street and take money out on my gold card, but that would have cut into my session time. I also could have called my bank. However, all of this was adding to my already high level of anxiety, which is why I was there in the first place. I’m was there to reduce my anxiety, not to elevate. A doctor’s first duty is «Primum non nocere» (first, do no harm). I left there a shaking, sweaty mess.
The fact that they were so adamant that I pay up front was a red flag that this was not a good doctor.
I was good for the money, and had this glitch not occurred, his true colors would not have been exposed. I would have most likely returned. He demonstrated that money was more important than helping a sick person. If he couldn’t trust me to pay the bill, how could he expect me to trust him? His business practices are exactly the same as any street drug dealer.
He only takes Seton insurance and I was out of network. For an intake he charges around $ 280. I can’t vouch for his competency, only for his level of greed.
Psychiatrists like to perpetuate this notion that good psychiatrists don’t take insurance, but in my experience, I’ve seen no evidence to support this theory.
