You must try the pic a dilly!!! Amazing!!! The service was great, he was very patient with us while we took forever deciding. Glad I found this lil gem. Sad part is that the roasted corn is on weekends only.

The cart is right around the corner from my house, but I always forget about it… NOMORE! After seeing it mentioned on Unilocal I had to try it out. I dont know what kind of blades are in the ice machine, but it produces perect shaved ice! It’s fluffy and doesn’t harden. Perfect. Also, I love the process they go through when«building» a cone. A little snow. A little syrup. Snow up to the lip of the cup. Add a cone with a funnel. Push a straw down through the top hole, to allow syrup in. Funnel off. Wipe away excess snow from the edges with straw. Poke two more holes on either side. Then SLOWLY add the syrup. Every person I’ve visited at the cart does it the same way. Yay for consistency! I haven’t been brave enough to try the Pick-A-Dilly…yet! PS They also accept Credit Cards, with a $ 5 minimum.

I counted 38 flavors an you can make a «dilly» out of all of them. I asked if they had chamoyada and the lady said she could add chamoy to any flavor yessssss!!! So my $ 2 tamarindo dilly with chamoy was out of this world!!! If u are not adventurous in the sno-cone department, no worries. Nobody will judge. A plain $ 4 lemon lime will quench your thirst and satisfy the sweet tooth just the same. They have a facebook and a twitter profile. The sad thing is that apparently they may not be there year round. The lady mentioned they go to special events to other cities. So don’t despair if you don’t see the green cart when you are looking for a dilly, come back the next day. They don’t have any place to sit but it does not mean you can’t improvise a family picnick like some customers that got there before me did. This is truly a snow-cone place. The ice is not crushed and will not freeze into a hard crust if you leave it alone for a couple of minutes. Super smooth ice that will not melt. What more can you ask for?

Being a loyal listener of The Bobby Bones Show every morning, he kept mentioning that he found this trailer that served pick-a-dilly. Huh? What’s a pick-a-dilly? *scratch head* When he went on to vaguely describe something about chopped pickles mixed in a snow cone, it sounded kind of gross to me; nevertheless, I still had to try one just because I’m always up for trying something new and he kept raving about them. The little green trailer is parked in front of a laser car wash right next to a Shell/CMart gas station on the corner of Westgate and Slaughter But don’t get it confused with the other trailer in the parking lot called Bella’s Tacos as they are two separate businesses. If you are driving west on Slaughter, you’ll see a little sign that says«Home of the Famous Pick-A-Dilly.» Top G is owned by this sweet family from the Valley who told me that is where the pick-a-dilly originated from. Talk about ultra friendly service with a smile. Maria is the super friendly mother who chatted with us and told us that all of their syrups are homemade, giving them a more authentic taste. But it doesn’t stop their because they also sell roasted corn topped with all the fixings. I’ll have to review it in a later post when I come back to try it. Ok, so what the heck is a pick-a-Dilly you ask? First you pick a flavor for your snow cone. Maria said that the most popular used when ordering a pickle dilly is cherry or strawberry. I went ahead and picked cherry as I thought sour cherry made more sense then sour strawberry. But then again logic is all out of the question because pickles and snow cones don’t make sense together period. Or do they? Maria put a layer of the fluffy New Orleans shaved ice in the cup first then a layer of finally chopped/minced pickles followed by another layer of shaved ice then squirted the cherry syrup, and finally topped it off with more chopped pickles, sal limón(Mexican sour salt), and a little Mexican chili powder. OHMYGOSH can we say capitol S to the O to the U to the R!!! *Whistle* It was lip puckering awesome! Man, talk about an intense sour treat! A must try at least once for people who love sour stuff. I think Maria and her son got a kick out of my reaction. The small was definitely enough for me and was super cheap at only $ 2. Now, if the pick-a-dilly doesn’t sound like something you’ll enjoy, they serve regular snow cones as well with thirty-something flavors to choose from, but if you make it out to the trailer you might as well step up to the plate and experience something unique. Way to go Top G for your entrepreneurship and marketing something one of a kind in the city of many food trailers! I’ll be back!
