Torchy’s Tacos was great! I enjoyed the whole atmosphere the second we pulled in. We came at night time around 9 and the lights that they had strung up around the trees were so pretty. The weather was perfect for the outdoor seating and there was no wait. I also liked how they bring your order to you at the table. As for the food I got the Baja Shrimp and The Republican. The Baja Shrimp taco was really good! I liked the jalapeños and the chipotle sauce was so yummy. By the time I got to The Republican, I was kind of full which may be why I didn’t enjoy the sausage as much but I think it was still good! I also got the queso and chips which they claimed was the best in the city and I liked it but I’m just not sure if it was necessarily worth $ 5. Great taco spot overall! *My friend also got the corn which was delicious

Good things come to those who wait. I needed some delicious tacos. I had a horrible experience with the Lyft driver getting me to Torchy’s and I also had a bird piss on me while I waited for my food. Anything less than delicious, I would have lost my mind. Thank you Torchy’s for saving me from a meltdown. My favorite was The Wrangler, the breakfast taco with scrambled eggs and brisket. Something about the saltiness and the flavor juices of the brisket just takes the taco to the next level. Also good was the Crossroads which also had brisket coupled with jalapenos, jack cheese and avocado. Pretty much anything with the brisket is going to be delicious. If you want something that will guarantee you scalp sweats, you get the Brushfire. The Diablo Hot Sauce is not a joke. The Democrat was okay. Pork Barbacoa was lacking flavor. It was just a mound of slightly wet shredded pork. Not appetizing. The Dirty Sanchez(for those non meat eaters) started off great. It has scrambled eggs, fried chile, guacamole, carrots and shredded cheese. The first bite or two are great, but as you eat this taco, the less appealing it gets. The carrots add a nice crunch to the taco, but it becomes TOO much crunch. The sauce drowns out the rest of the flavors. It’s too thick of sauce as well. It becomes a chore to finish it, it’s THAT thick. There were plenty of options to keep you coming back. I love some fresh tacos and it was a nice surprise to see that brisket in a taco was actually an amazing way to go.

Another review update. I love Torchy’s. It’s always good, and they’re always flexible. These days I order whatever vegetarian/fish options they have(Mr. Orange, Mr. Pink, Baja Shrimp, The Independent, Dirty Sanchez) and they’re simply sumbliiiiiime. If you don’t want it battered or fried, tell them and they won’t do it! If you want to add something or take whatever off, they’re cool, just ask. I like that.

We came twice during our four day trip to Austin. Try to get here before noon, literally the 5 – 10 minutes will make a huge difference. wait vs. no wait. We came around 11:45am both days and just sat and watched the line grow and grow as it hit noon. There were only maybe less than 10 people in line prior to that. For breakfast tacos I enjoyed the fried avocado and dirty sanchez — love the heavy amount of egg in the dirty sanchez! For lunch/dinner tacos the BRUSHFIRE was easily the standout, followed by the crossroads and last the democrat. Most of the reviews talk about the democrat but we all felt underwhelmed. As for corn or flour, if you don’t care too much let the guy chose for you based on what they think is best!

Torchy’s is like the old high school friend who you see from time to time and it’s always nice to find out how they’re doing– and you always end the night saying you’ll see each other sooner rather than later, but then weeks go by, and you just don’t think about them… until something comes up and they’re in the forefront of your mind. Or not. What I’m trying to say is this: Torchy’s is delicious, and it gives you the feeling of warmth for good times and reminds you why you need to come back every couple of months. Tacos are a really good size here, so if you usually order three, order two and get some chips and queso to share. Also they are always crowded but the line moves quick. Best ones I’ve had so far are: trailer park(fried chicken, aka artery clogging goodness), baja shrimp(because…duh. shrimp.), and the chicken fajita(simple and to the point). I’ve also had their burrito and that was fine, but honestly the tacos are what you came here for, so eat a damn taco.

When I first moved here, like a good newcomer I asked my Austin-centric friends to recommend good restaurants to try. First suggestion? Torchy’s. They have several other locations around Austin, but the trailer park is great because you can sit outside and eat under the trees. Just keep your eye on those birds because they’re part food-stealing-demons. You may have to wait in a line if you get there during their busy hours, but you will be rewarded handily with great, big, giant, glorious tacos. My favorites would have to be the Fried Avocado taco and the Trailer Park. I suggest getting the Trailer Park trashy, which means they take out the lettuce and pour queso over it. Speaking of which, if you want to experience the epitome of queso, try it here. Their green chile queso is an explosion of flavor, just like their tacos.

I mean, Torchy’s is as good as it gets. Delicious, filling tacos, the best queso around, classic AND unique ingredients/combinations.tell me there’s a better taco place. I won’t believe you, though. It’s one of those restaurants where I don’t need a long, draw-out review. Just freaking go. You won’t be disappointed, ever.

New to Austin I quickly realized how much its a food truck haven and foodie paradise. On a number of Über rides, I was told to check out some Tex-Mex before I left and what better place to do this than Torchy’s. I went for a decent dinner on a Friday night(9:30pm) and it wasn’t crowded. Torchy’s has several locations but this truck is stationed a few blocks west of SoCo. Nice feature of this food truck park is the covered and the outdoor dining areas. The one that’s covered has free water, tons of seating and door flaps that can be used according to the weather. There’s a fire pit around the outdoor dining area which has plenty of picnic tables and benches with umbrellas. I ordered a healthy(not really) portion of The Democrat and Baja Shrimp tacos with a side of guac and homemade chips complete with a Topo Chico(typical local seltzer soda). I waited not more than 10 minutes for order but the only issue was I changed my mind about eating in instead of eating out. The guy who took my order in the truck asked if I wanted to open the Topo Chico(needs a bottle opener) or wait to drink with food — I said the latter. Well when another guy brought me my order I asked about a bottle opener and he said, «come up to the truck and we can help you.» I guess it might be my New York roots but I wouldn’t normally leave all my stuff in a dining area with other people around to get anything. I have the mentality equivalent to the airport TSA — keep track of your belongings at all times… The food: Baja Shrimp taco was on point especially with a few drips of there cream sauce. The shrimp were lightly battered and juicy combined in a flour soft tortilla with fresh lettuce, onions, cilantro, and yummy queso. The Democrat was less impressive. I enjoyed the combination of shredded beef and avocado but the slice of avocado kept loosening out of the tortilla which was a bit annoying. Also the beef wasn’t as flavorful as I hoped. But the homemade tortilla chips — ROCKEDMYSOCKS! They were the perfect amount of saltiness and fried oil, giving them a crispy texture and fresh flavor… hmm so good! The guac was creamy and delicious as well. Definitely worth checking out and maybe try the breakfast tacos — I will definitely come back to try those next time I’m in town!

this is a month overdue, but these tacos are so so good. i love breakfast tacos and sadly new york city doesn’t have the real deal. I tried the migas breakfast taco and a bean and cheese with guacamole. great salsa options too — i tried the tomitillo, avocado and diablo sauces. They were all great but the diablo was my favorite — really tasty and super hot. can’t wait to come back here and try the queso!

Best queso in Austin, hands down. Tacos are so good that I usually change my order every time, but it’s usually 1 Trashy Trailer Park, and 1 something else. Their special monthly tacos are usually awesome. I remember for ACL they had one called the Scallywag that was incredible. I participated in their 5 year anniversary scavenger hunt a few years back, so I think I’ve been to every Torchy’s in Austin and tried everything on their menu, and dude, I will vouch for all of it. Little nookies kind of feel like a heart attack, so I usually prefer to clog my arteries via sweet, sweet melted cheese, but hey pick your own, you know? Though this is probably my favorite Torchy’s, they’re all great. They all live up to the true Torchy’s name, one of honor and deliciousness, but this location has the nice outdoor seating in the sun, with the other fun trailers right next to it in case you want some cake balls or whatever. Bottom line: A+, bravo, applause, my heart swells for Torchy’s.

The tacos are super legit, but the Lil Nookies are the game changer. Lil Nookies– deep fried chocolate chip dusted with powdered sugar and topped with cherries. They come in groups of 3. Order them. Trust me.(Then go run a 5K.) Tacos– Torchy’s has something for every appetite and any time of the day. The tacos are tasty and reasonable. If you’re not near a Tacodeli, Torchy’s is a solid selection.

I love their fried avocado taco! It goes great with the poblano ranch. The service can get slow and they take a while to make the tacos but it is worth it after all! The prices are not cheap but the ingredients are fresh and yummy. The queso is really good, too. If you have out-of-towners who want to try a taste of Austin then this is a good place to bring them!

Another day, another meal ordered to my work. This time Torchys Tacos was the option. I was handed a menu and picked a few tacos at random as I was busy working. Ended up scarfing them down at the end of the night, and they were pretty good. I even had tacos for lunch. Had I not, this place might have earned 5 stars for me. I’ll give them another try next time I’m in Austin and see if I can award them the extra star.

Wow. These were probably the most delicious tacos I’ve ever eaten in my entire life. I had a baja shrimp and the dirty sanchez, which were both incredible. Easily worth it to come back to Austin just to eat more of these tacos! We showed up around 1:30PM on a Thursday and there was barely a line. Needless to say, I’ll be dreaming about these tacos for a long time to come.

This was the first stop and last stop I made when I visited Austin and I still feel nostalgic just writing about it. Between the two meals, I ordered The Democrat, The Republican, Fried Avocado, and the Trailer Park. I think my two favorites were The Democrat and Trailer Park. Something about the fried avocado seemed a bit plain and the sausage from The Republican seemed a little hot dog-ish. Regardless, they were all delicious and I’d be so darn happy to eat any of them again. Now, while the tacos get a lot of attention, I personally believe the queso is the true star of the show. Not to hype it up too much, but I honestly dream about eating this queso sometimes… Obsessed doesn’t even begin to cover it. Creamy, warm, not too thick, and incredibly flavorful. They must add some sort of hot pepper to the mix because it has just the right amount of heat. Not too salty, and definitely not your your typical orange goo from a glass jar. Out of this world. There’s some parking in front of the food truck, but it is limited. You can park down the street and also walk to Torchy’s which is what my friend and I had to do the second time around. There’s plenty of seating outside(when it’s warm out) and inside(when it gets a little nippy). The next time I’m back in Austin, I will be heading straight here. Can’t wait.

It had been a while since I visited the Torchy’s trailer down on South 1st. After a nice long walk on Town Lake last Sunday morning, we decided to head over for a bite. No problem finding parking around 11am-noon on a Sunday in the small lot. Only a few people in front of us in line and it moved fast. I like that they give you the chips and queso(or guac/salsa) at the window, so you don’t have to wait! Plenty of seating at the picnic tables. Food came out quickly and yumm-ily(??). Another good thing about this location — I can bring my dog! I really like their migas taco. In addition to a ton of egg and other typical accouterments, there was a giant slice of avocado. Yummy! One thing I wish they had at this location was a salsa bar, so you can get your own salsa(and more than the tiny cup, if needed).

Torchys! Oh man. Was it worth the 45 minute wait in line? Not really. Is it somewhere you should check out during your visit to ATX? Sure why not. Torchy’s was our first stop during our recent visit to ATX. We got in our rental car and headed straight to the trailer location off of 1st. Parking is minimal in this small trailer lot, so we ended up having to park across the street. The line itself was already long and we waited in line for approx 45 minutes and then another 15 for our food. The plus is they have a water dispenser for those waiting and/or you can grab a cuppa joe from the trailer next door. As others have mentioned, the tacos are pretty hefty. We ordered the Democrat, Chicken Fajita, Chips & Guac and the Street Corn. To be quite honest, the Chips & Guac were out of the world amazing and I would potentially wait in line just for those. I can’t say I’ll be back to Torchy’s. I’m not into all the sauces and extras on a normal taco, but maybe that’s where the«Tex Mex» comes in to play. I definitely think there is a tone of hype around this place, but I am happy I at least tried it for myself.

I ate Torchy’s at least 5 times on a week long trip to Austin including a few second dinners. I REGRETNOTHING. All the tacos I had were awesome(The Wrangler, Migas, #1 Breakfast Taco, The Democrat, Crossroads, etc.). And so many salsas! I just love sauce. I put like 4 of them on top of every taco I had. My favorites were the Avocado and Poblano salsas. You’ll like them all, they’re all delicious.

My god, that queso. I was told to go here as it is an Austin staple. There are a few around but this one is located in the Trailer Park. You go up to the little stand and order and they bring it out to you. We got a bunch of tacos, all which were delicious and well made. But the standouts were the street corn, which came incredibly seasoned and sauced in a little cup and the queso, which was, by far, the best queso I’ve ever had in my entire life. I did three tacos and it was WAY too much food. Two is fine, even maybe one with the sides, and you will be happy.

Having read that Torchy’s(and Tex-Mex in general) was an Austin institution, I looked forward to trying their Tex-Mex tacos but was very underwhelmed by what I had. The Ace of Spades(jalapeño sausage link, grilled brisket, fried egg, green chile queso, cilantro, cotija cheese, sour cream, and diablo served on a flour tortilla) sounded like it would totally be my kind of food but turned out to be disappointingly mediocre. +1 star for the awesome queso though! To be fair, I guess if you’re a college student and/or looking for filling, gutbomb food on a budget, I can see the appeal of a place like Torchy’s.

The original olympics held in Athens were commenced by the lighting of the torch. Since then, torches originating there have traveled all over to start the next olympics. Now is this the significance of the name Torchy’s, with Austin being the birth place of breakfast tacos? Probably not. Though one can imagine. What you don’t have to imagine about is what you’ll get here. You’ll be sure to be surrounded by tons of amazing options of delicious tacos, breakfast and non breakfast alike. For breakfast I had the Monk(with chorizo), Migas, and the Wrangler. All of them were amazing, especially the Wrangler. Ask for some Diablo sauce, it is no joke. Went back to next day, for another wrangler and a democrat. Another solid option for lunch. If you go three tacos deep for breakfast you may want to walk Athens, to burn it off. Unfortunately, the walk back to my hotel in downtown would have to do. Make sure you come here to stuff your face with some original Austin breakfast tacos.

Torchy’s has become my solid go-to when I’m need of something quick, dependably yummy, filling, and well priced. So far, I haven’t had to deal with long lines or inconsistent food here. Almost everything I’ve ordered has been quite delicious and overflowing with ingredients. I love that they provide both an indoor and outdoor area to hang out in while enjoying your freshly made tacos. My favorites here are the Mr. Orange, Baja Shrimp, Crossroads, Brushfire, and the Democrat.
