A solid breakfast taco, but not my favorite in Austin. Their tortillas aren’t made in house and some of their basic items aren’t adequately seasoned — particularly the potatoes & black beans. My favorite thing has to be green sauce which adds a level of flavor that I think is missing and bumps Tyson’s up a star. For all of the times I’ve eaten here, I haven’t had many of their more ‘exotic’ tacos and maybe that is where I’m going wrong!

I’ve eaten at Tyson’s 3 times in the last two weeks. Chances are, if you’re reading this, I’m there eating. I cannot stop ordering 3 taco plates. My blood is essentially congealed rice and beans at this point. Screw this review, go there right now and order everything. Order queso, order horchata, order lemonade. Just go. If you see me in line, lets high five. Get the ranger.

One of the more inventive taco restaurants I’ve been to in Austin. Cool spot, interesting jazz playing and it’s a non intimidating spot to eat if you’re reading or dining alone. $ 9.99 gets you a sizable meal of any of three tacos(even seafood) and rice and beans! They need to offer some salsas that don’t pack as much heat. But all-in-all, a worthy spot.

Everything is phenomenal, this is the only place to get non traditional tacos. Plus Tyson studied in New York… before it was cool ;)

We went here for lunch today. Quirky place. Not big party friendly. We actually had 5 people and we got the biggest table that seats 6. All the other tables will sit 2 or 3. We ordered queso, pork belly, crispy duck tacos, fajita tacos and BEC& potato tacos. The prices for the tacos are comparable for what you get. Honestly, I think they could get away with charging more for the pork belly/duck tacos. I would def recommend this place! Delicious and great prices

I don’t ever write Unilocal reviews but Tyson’s service just restored my faith in the future and I feel like this is all I can do to say thanks. :) I’ve been here a hundred times, love it no question. Creative, consistent, kind, delicious. Today, I ordered a couple of tacos to go, some guac too. Business as usual. Twenty minutes went by, I was chilling with my soda in the sun, life was great. I went to check on my order. It was a busy day, I was ‘t too worried but the window had slowed down and it seemd a nonintrusive time to ask. The kitchen staff is always so kind to me and so I felt totally comfortable checking in. Turns out, an error with the ordering software caused my order number to be missed. NOT A PROBLEMFORME, let me clarify that. No worries. A) it’s Austin and I feel like a twenty minute wait for anything is something you need to be ready for unless you want a lifetime of stress… B) it was a particularly busy day C) errors happen… I’ve experienced it myself. SO… like I said, I’m not worried and know they’ll have my order whipped up and ready in a few minutes, and that’s exactly what happens. BUTTHATWASN’T GOODENOUGHFORTHESTAFFOFTHISAMAZINGPLACE In short, Tyson’s staff puts my order together in no time flat, thanks me for waiting, wishes me the most genuine«hope you have a wonderful day today» AND then hands me a receipt showing that they had refunded the wntire cost of my order!!! I was caught off guard and actually started to argue for a few seconds: «What?! No no no no no that is totally unnecessary. You don’t have to do this. No.» The super friendly gentleman who is always at the window when I stop in responds«No, you shouldn’t have had to wait. It’s on us»… and then we borh kind of slinl from the argument as we realize that it’s useless(he’s already refunded me) and there are a lot of people still in line… We both thank one another, the kitchen staff smiles and we all kind of go on with our days. Beyond expectations. Tyson’s is one of my favorite places in Austin and this is exactly why it will always be at the top of that list. :) Thanks Tyson’s!

What a let down, I have been trying to eat at this place for weeks but they close when ever they feel like and I finally got to eat here, and was disappointed by the cold store bought flour tortillas and over priced tacos. I wouldn’t mind paying more if the value was there. Sadness :( Editing review because 1st impressions are not always the best, taco 1 was a disappointment of a fish taco, taco 2 was a separate transaction a different cashier and I believe a different cook, this time a toasty warm tortilla and a delicious mouth watering taco. So for now 50⁄50. I may come back but there are so many places that are doing good things. Would I recommend, 50% chance. Not that great. I know I can do better elsewhere for my money.

They make the best breakfast tacos in Austin, They are really fast and employees are cool. Don’t wast your time going anywhere else because it’s all subpar compared to Tyson’s. Its like crack, sometimes I live off it only to want more and I can’t get the yummy taste out of my head

Thhhhhe dankness. Delicious. Honestly baffled how anyone could insult a taco, to be honest. Tyson’s is soo good. I’ll take it over Torchy’s any day of the week though. It’s like that.

I’ve only had breakfast tacos here so far, to go. They are generously sized. My hands-down favorite was the Bond Girl, and the salsa was good also. I need to return and eat in. The dining area is more than a patio and has really cool books and things all over. This is a huge step up from Alonzo’s, which occupied this space years ago.

I came here for lunch during a week day. It was fairly busy. It is all outdoor seating but it’s covered, it was fairly chilly on the day that I went so it was a little breezy in there. It’s a walk up order at the window thing and then you get your order number called. We got the chips and queso, the order was huge! Well a giant bowl of chips and a smaller bowl of queso. It was okay, not the best queso I’ve had but it’s okay. There was a lot of tomatoes in the queso, if that’s your thing. I got the pork belly taco, but I wasn’t a fan of the onions, mandarin orange. I took it out and really enjoyed the taco then. I also ordered the B is for Bacon taco and that was pretty delicious. I would recommend getting that. The food was okay, the price was alright. The parking is sort of a pain, there weren’t that many people there but there were few spots to park at.

Really awesome tacos. I really enjoyed the Asian inspired hoshin sauces one. Overall the food was great, sort of like Torchies but more authentic tasting. I didn’t care for the queso though and the beans and rice sides were just okay. Overall, the tacos were more than enough to bring me back, I suspect it will be more than just a few more times.

Capsule review: Maybe Free Beer Friday just buys me off in a way that nothing else could. I’ve had better tacos, but still can’t imagine a place in Austin that I’d rather return to for a cheap weekend dinner. Full review below. So, we’ve been planning to got to Tyson’s for about three years now and never quite got around to it. The plastic-enclosed patio, not-quite-a-restaurant, not-quite-a-food-truck thing seemed kinda suspect. Maybe I fear things that resist easy definition. In any case, we clearly waited too long. Tyson’s is charming as all get out, with both an enclosed wooden porch and front and back picnic areas. The menu is a huge selection of gringo-ish tacos ranging from breakfast through seafood and every kind of animal(I mean – duck?). Remarkably, this doesn’t seem to adversely impact freshness, and everything we had was super tasty. We ordered the diablo shrimp, shrimp quesadilla, mahi-mahi, and drum tempura, and liked them all so much that we came back for a build-your-own breakfast taco and a Yoda(black beans, potato, avocado, sriracha mayo). They were out of the vegan ones we wanted to try, but that happens. General notes on tacos: the house salsas(a verde and an avocado) are excellent; the tortillas are good, but not among the best in town(Cabo Bob’s, Chango’s, and Taco Joint all roll their own – not so here); not as stuffed full of ingredients as a Torch’y or Tacodeli(you can eat three without too much trouble), but also considerably cheaper. Otherwise stellar in terms of heat, seasoning, and quality of ingredients. But what puts this in the«must return» camp for me are a lot of weird extras: the incredibly refreshing cucumber or orange-infused waters, the hippie dude playing classical guitar in the corner, the play-the-uke-on-the-wall-and-get-a-free-taco program(not kidding), the fast and incredibly friendly service from what I assume was the owner-operator, and, of course, the free beer. About that: I went to the window to order beer if they had any – didn’t see any on the menu – and noticed a keg of IPA behind the counter. I try to buy one for myself. «It’s free,» says friendly owner operator: «One or two?» I recover from my shock and get two. This happens again when I order the additional tacos. I realize on the way out that we had six tacos and four beers and the bill was $ 23 after tip, for an experience in what is easily the coolest atmosphere you could ever create while being like 30 feet away from Airport Drive. I may come to Tyson’s for dinner every Friday until we move. I loved it. Will also return shortly to check out the Sunday brunch menu.

I was on the hunt for a new place to eat. It was getting almost to the wire between hungry and mad hungry. I passed by the place multiple times after ot became Tyson tacos. I made it a point to stop in 2015. The place is a bit divey but not in a bad light. They have a nice sized patio for dining there. The staff is friendly enough. I had a funny conversations about some of the“adult” taco names. I got a taco with bacon, egg and cheese and a migas taco. The ingredients seemed quality and tasted fresh n I went back a few weeks later and got a lunch plate. I had fajita meat tacos with rice and beans. As were the breakfast tacos they were good too. The rice and beans were okay. It’s been awhile and I plan to visit again to see what is new.

*Imagine you’re a wasted & shit-faced taco making genius* Obviously being wasted, you would say something like«.um put some f’ing TAKIS!» But don’t forget that you’re also well-versed in food and flavors, so you think of «Crispy Duck and soft-boiled miso egg» — you’re all about amplifying that taco on another level. Tyson’s is that shit-faced, well-versed in flavor chef that provides all different kinds of unique combinations in a taco. We ordered the: *The Pharr East — a carnitas taco that has Takis in it, son. Who knew that Takis can provide the perfect amount of spice, tang, and crunch to a single bite. To me, that’s beyond genius. *Crispy Duck — we were actually drawn to this establishment by this duck taco, but unfortunately it was wayyyy masked by hoisin sauce. If they were to slightly drizzle that as opposed to drenching it along with cucumbers, I would like it. Peking duck tacos(basically.) *Miso Egg — screw your breakfast tacos with scrambled egg, a soft-boiled egg inside a pork belly taco is so hearty and great. *Al Pastor — had to try a classic. there were pieces of pineapple inside this, and it was also a tasty taco. Expect a short-ish line and take photos with their heart murals while waiting.

Two of my friends and I came here and were super impressed! 3 taco plate for $ 8.99 includes rice and beans and their chips and dip came out better than we expected! The dip was warm and actually pretty good :-) The people behind the counter were friendly too. Warning: this place is kinda an outdoorsy place so I’d come when the weather is nice out. We came by at night when it was slightly chilly and sat down by the fireplace– which was p e r f e c t. Only sad part was the meat in the pork belly taco was cut a little too thick and slightly undercooked for my taste. But would highly recommend and will visit again!

When I was 12, two of my older brothers hiked me out to the middle of our 50 acre property in East Texas and left me there alone to find my own way home. So I stood perfectly still next to this large man-made pond that adjoined the nearby woods. And I waited. Well wouldn’t you know, after standing there for about 5 minutes waiting for my brothers to return and save me, something long and thin looking moved out of the woods and into the water. This thing«swam» out into the middle of the pond and slapped the water with its long rear end. So, being a future masculine man, I screamed like a little baby. Upon hearing the screaming of a future dude hunk, this creature turned in the water and headed straight for me. And I was standing on the bank just staring at it. After it got close enough for proper identification, what I thought had been a snake turned out to be an enormous beaver. Tyson’s has amazing, low cost tacos and last I checked, free beer on Fridays. You should really check it out.

So many options! I went with a breakfast taco, the Han Solo, which was pretty good. I also got one of their special crispy duck tacos, the Empty Promises taco, and that was amazing. I also tasted the mahi mahi taco and I wished I had gotten one!!! They have a green garlic sauce that is similar to Tacodeli’s Dona sauce, but less spicy. Will definitely be back!

It’s not what’s on the outside that counts it’s what’s on the inside. I’m not talking about the building-it’s a cute upgrade to a taco stand. I’m talking about the food. As far as taco fillings go-Tyson’s has the variety and quality of ingredients that can’t be beat. This isn’t your traditional taco stand. It’s gourmet and anything but traditional. I loved their crispy duck taco and tempura fish taco. The duck taco is deliciously crispy pieces of duck and hoisin sauce with cucumber. The duck fat? Icing on this taco! Every taco we had was super delicious-the veggie chorizo is good, loved their breakfast options, and their crispy beef taco is a great childhood throwback. The problem arises with their tortillas. They are not homemade and taste like the saddest grocery store tortillas. The flour tortillas are dry and thin. Taco Cabana makes their own… just saying. The corn is better but if Tyson’s upped their tortilla game… they’d be hard to beat. They lost a star for that. Their taco insides are beautiful but their taco outside(tortilla) unforgivable. Get the 3 taco plate deal. 8.99 for any 3 tacos and they through in rice and beans. Best deal. Some of their tacos can be close to 4 bucks so this for sure is the way to go.

Checked out Tyson’s today and it was delicious and packed with flavor! I loved the décor – cozy and hip with fireplace. The breeze comed in from the outside because its like a patio restaurant that is sealed but has heaters inside to keep you warm. Their creamy Sriracha sauce is to die for. The only thing holding it back from 5 stars is I felt it being slightly too salty. Otherwise, great bargain, great flavors, and many choices. And hippy, tex-mex, austin-y venue! I had the following: Balls of Sunshine: a fried egg yolk taco with bacon. I loved the half runny yolk that popped as I ate it. The Rage: fried avocado vegetarian-friendly option.

I have waited until I have eaten here several times to review it, because I really want to like this place – creative combinations of good ingredients – what’s not to like? But unfortunately, the rampant fuck-up-fest which is their order/make process leaves no choice but to dock them several stars. Why? Because every time I order, I get something I didn’t order – in some cases something I SPECIFICALLY asked NOT to have. Every. Single. Time. There’s nothing that sucks quite as hard as getting all the way home with your food and finding out it’s wrong or, worse, inedible. Just a couple of examples: I ordered five mecanico tacos and got bean and egg – no sausage. What’s the point? Or today(probably my last visit) when I asked very clearly that NONE of my(more than a dozen) assorted tacos contain onions or cilantro. Would you think that«bean and cheese»(again, with a SPECIFICREQUEST for NO cilantro and onions) would contain both? Look at the photo of their menu. Do you see onions listed on the ingredients for Fat Coves or Bond Girl tacos? Me either. But guess what nasty-ass shit I bit into in both? Kids without breakfast because they can’t eat bean and cheese with onions and shitty Mexican ditch-weed in them, disappointed family looking hungry after eating the few things that WERE as ordered, and having to chug OJ to get the taste of cilantro out of your mouth. Really sick of this crap. Get your shit together, Tyson’s. With a 20 minute wait when only four people were in line ahead of me, there should have been PLENTY of time to get the effin’ order CORRECT. Tyson’s is so cute! I love the patio especially in the winter when they have the Christmas lights and fire pit. Mr. Cheese is my favorite! I love the rice and cheese… obviously. It’s so delicious and I always forget to use salsa cause it really just doesn’t need it. The Wild Feminist is another favorite and of course the chips and queso. Favorite breakfast tacos for sure.

Very good tacos! I had Empty Promises and Yoda. I thought both were very good(even without any salsa added) and I would definitely return to this taqueria. The patio is small but nice and dog friendly. Two things that I think would make this place really great: homemade tortillas and an optional chips/guac with every order or for the table. The contents of the tacos are flavorful and different, but I really think that homemade tortillas would make this place a real gem. I want to try to the taco with egg yolks next.

I stumbled upon this gem while driving around looking for tacos. I originally stopped by an authentic stand but they didn’t take cards so I had to continue my search. I got a variety of tacos + an order of guacamole and I was rather proud of this, except it took entirely too long! I may have been waiting 40 minutes for my to-go order. Granted, it was a little busy and the Food Network was there but when you’re hungover and hungry, you just want some tacos. With that said, I would definitely return because the owner came around with free beer for everyone and the tacos were good. P. S. Both the green and red salsas were EXTREMELY spicy to my taste.

Hangover tacos are the best and you can’t go wrong at Tyson’s. There are a lot of options for breakfast and the prices are cheaper than a lot of the better known spots. The ordering is straight forward and they use Fivestar meaning you can earn rewards which is cool. I ordered an Alexis Texas and(I think) a Robinsonian. I was a bit out of it, so I may be off on that last taco. The service was quick and the green sauce was really good. Maybe not as spicy as Tacodeli’s doña, but that’s ok with me. I fully intend to come back, maybe with a little more focus and a little less hangover.

Tyson’s Tacos is a great lunch spot that is pretty fast. You can get in and get out fairly quickly during the weekday lunch rush. If you are breakfast lover; specifically breakfast taco lover you will rejoice! They serve their breakfast tacos all day. I appreciate the creativity with the combinations of tacos. I had the crispy duck taco, it really does deserve all the thumbs up its getting the flavors were excellent and I liked the option of duck for a protein. This makes Tyson’s stand out in the sea of taco shacks, taco stands, taco trucks, taco restaurants, etc. My favorite was the shrimp quesadilla taco it was spicy and cheesy and the shrimp were tender. Although pretty tasty and a good lunch spot there are some things I was not a fan of: 1. The tortillas are way too crispy, like crack when you bite them crispy. This may be a preference thing, and don’t get me wrong I like my tortillas hit with the fire a bit, but this was too much for me. The taco cracking and poking the roof of my mouth took away from the yummy goodness inside. 2. The bathroom is awkward. It is at the back of the building, in the kitchen. No signs so when you have to do that awkward«um sorry, uh Im looking for the bathroom?» And interrupt the people working hard to make your food. On the upside there is a cool 3-D picture of an eagle to look at while you do your business. All in all I think Tyson’s is an a-ok joint with some great taco options and fast service. Just use the bathroom before you go.

This is an AMAZING hole-In-the-wall taco shop with tons of vegetarian options(even for people who don’t eat eggs). I will definitely be back next time I’m in Austin for some cheap but hella tasty tacos. I got Val’s classic migas and Jaimes little pony. They were large and I was stuffed after two(even though I was ravenous when I started eating). 3 reasons I can’t give this place 5 stars: –The vegan chorizo in Jaimes was a little too salty(enough so that I wouldn’t get the taco again). I’m not sure if that’s just how chorizo is supposed to taste and I don’t like it, or if it truly was too salty. –I prefer my beans to be extra cooked and on the softer side. The beans in these tacos were definitely cooked but not suuper soft and a little dry. –All of the tacos don’t come with their own salsas so you have to share with others… the red salsa was also a little too salty but the green salsa was GREAT! Pros: –complimentary iced cucumber/lemon water –very fast service –they’re accommodating and willing to make substitutions –they change the menu often enough so it’ll never get boring/there’s always something new to try!

Unilocal steered us very very wrong with this choice. We headed to Tyson’s because the wait at Torchy’s was intolerable. But there was probably a good reason as to why the line at Torchy’s was so long. We ordered 2 of the shrimp tacos and the barbacoa. What came out were not only inedible, but there was a dead mosquito in our food. The shrimp tasted incredibly fishy and had an off putting odor. We took about two bites and left the rest of it behind.

This place just does their own thing and keeps on going. They’re more than a trailer but not quite a full-blown restaurant, and more than usual tacos but not quite franchise-happy like Torchy’s & TacoDeli. Incidentally, I kept looking around for some Anglo guy named Tyson. The bottom line is if you can find a place to park, you won’t go wrong with the all-day breakfast tacos here. They’re cheap & good, and use strips of bacon instead of bacon pieces. And I should probably disclose that’s pretty much all I ever get at Tyson’s Tacos, because I’m just not all that Unilocal-excited about pork belly or duck in a tortilla. Sorry. But if you’re going to go that route, their«Pick three tacos with rice & beans for $ 9» is a good deal. And on Sundays, there’s a special brunch menu in lieu of all their pork/duck/fish tacos. And I’ll eventually get around to trying them. But in the meantime, there’s always room for one or two more egg & bacon to go.

The Tacos were great, but the customer service and watery coffee will keep me at other taco joints. Mainly the customer service though.
