Vulcan Gas Company

Great venue! Loved watching the performer from the balcony. If one of my favorite djs is in town again, and performing here, I’d definitely come see them.

My husband and I had a truly incredible rehearsal dinner at the Vulcan Gas Company in May 2014 with 125 guests. The space catered to a perfect flow for the evening, as we were able to enjoy the upstairs balcony/​outdoor space for cocktails and mariachi, and the downstairs space for a sit down dinner with open bar service. The venue has beautiful design elements throughout, and an ambiance that wonderfully suits a special private gathering. The space itself, as well as providing excellent furniture and service, made the experience turnkey. We were able to completely enjoy the evening, as the staff went above and beyond in their service and planning. The downtown entertainment district location was perfect so our guests could enjoy an upscale private event in the heart of the Austin action.

I’m a big fan of Vulcan and I’m always excited when an artist I want to see plays a show here. It’s small and intimate enough to really enjoy being there.
There are two bars one downstairs and one up so they keep the line moving really quickly. They serve you your drink and send you on your way.
I have to complain about the sound for a second. Of all the shows I’ve seen here, there has always been a janky speaker that kinda ruins it for me. You can hear it popping and dipping in and out. It’s a buzz kill but the fact that I can actually see the stage from the second floor won’t stop me from returning.

The sounds here is amazing. They definitely put in a huge effort to get it just right and someone who likes music can appreciate this. The bartenders are all very up beat and friendly.

First time my friends and I came here it was a blast! Second time, I can’t say the same. We had a really bad experience with one of the bartenders, super rude and disrespectful.

Was here for the Summer Stunner Great place and loved the party. Will be coming back soon :)

Love the look and feel of this space! We had our annual corporate party here in August and we all had a blast! We worked with Kristin Ott, our fabulous event planner, she literally took care of all aspects of this party and really made a wonderful one of a kind night! If you are looking for a venue to host your next corporate event — look her up!
This place is also a badass music venue that is starting to break into all music genres, although its primarily edm/​DJ music — it’s still an awesome space for any concert!

Yeah, very cool venue and the bartenders are quick to tend to your needs. I also love the layout where you can see the stage from the 2^nd floor and watch the band play.
Need a break? Just step up to the 3^rd floor roof and you can see the surrounding buildings.

3 well spaced levels. First level has a stage for performances that can also be seen from the 2^nd floor. 3^rd floor is a nice little rooftop patio. Two bars total, bartenders are usually responsive even on busy days. They also seem to remember who tips well and will definitely scratch your back if you scratch theirs. Otherwise usually also has good live shows, I went during sxsw and just for a normal show, they seem to choose decent music. I’ve had no problems here. It’s on the edge of dirty six and I haven’t seen too many degenerates here throwing up everywhere which is a huge plus.

This place was great! Pros! It had a high ceiling with a lot of open space. There is one main bar downstairs and another small one upstairs. The bartenders were really fast and pretty friendly. There is also a small stairway going up from the second floor towards the front of the building heading out to the terrace that overlooks 6^th street. The terrace is a bit on the small side but hey it’s still a patio right? Smokers are all over this spot so if you need a ciggy or just want to socialize then this is your spot.
The cons!. of this place were the fact that it was piping hot in there when we were attending a Unilocal event. Another would probably have to be the stairways were quite small for the amount of people trafficking them so you feel kind of endangered when going up and down them. As far as the service goes. it was good but not great. I am not a drink expert so I had to ask what some drinks were and the bartender was not too thrilled to answer such questions which made me feel a bit «bullied» somehow being a dork!
Overall I am not sure I would come here again since there are so many places off 6^th street that I have not been to but I definitely loved it while I was there!

Three levels, nice stage and dance area, fully stocked bar, great for events. What else is there to say?! Would totally recommend it

I was a little skeptical at first since the venue seemed pretty small but I was pretty happy with how the night turned out. Came here to see Dash Berlin back in June, and I was very surprised with the sound system. The bass was AMAZING!!! The show was also sold out, but it didn’t feel too crowded at all since what I was used to was Lizard Lounge in Dallas. The tickets were also cheap compared to Dash Berlin’s show in Dallas and Houston.

I don’t know how this venue got to bear the name of one of the most iconic and important psychedelic music venues in history, but it is a total and utter sham. One of the worst experiences I’ve had at any live music venue in town. The bartender was so rude, drinks were way overpriced and a 10% gratuity was added to my tab (with no warning/​explanation) The music they played between sets was horrible pulsating electronic garbage. It makes me kind of sick to think that the vast majority of people visiting this venue don’t even know of the historical significance of the name, or what Texas psychedelic music even is. If you’re reading this, go listen to The 13^th Floor Elevators.

An unexpected surprise on Dirty 6^th! Nice CLEAN bar, good surroundings, friendly staff. I spoke at length with two bartenders, Will and Dave. For them alone, I’d highly recommend this locale. I’ve returned on other occasions and always greeted with a smile. The hospitality is greatly appreciated. Plus, the shows they have from time to time are a great draw. Bring a friend and stop by! I’m a definite fan.

I was here as part of the Marketo lounge during sxsw, it was open bar which included literally anything which was so clutch, granted it was early and kind of dead inside, but still you cant beat free booze, and they had free food as well, vegan options only but oh well, it was still good

ADJ was there for a semi-​private networking event during SXSW.
I like the look of the outside and entrance and, being an avid Star Trek fan, I love the name.
The inside is roomy. Roomier than one might assume standing on the street. There is a bar upstairs and downstairs, so that ensure people stay spread out.
RJ was our bartender and he was fabulous.
I think I’ll come back on a normal night and see what’s happening.

Fabulous service. I had my birthday party there last Saturday and the staff was so accommodating. The set-​up for the event was easy, the manager, Kristin, was so responsive and did an amazing job. We had a DJ that Vulcan hired and he was so much fun! Everyone was dancing. Now all my friends want to have their birthdays there!

A seriously unexpectedly nice big open, airy, fairly classy clubby interior space on the Dirty 6^th, with friendly courteous bar staff and (at least during the earlier hours of the evening I was there) a decent sounding p.a. system. The upstairs roof balcony is nice, as well as the extra rooms. I don’t know who the owners had to bury in order to let them construct this place in its location — because you know this space was previously destined to bleed and morph, generic-​amoeba-​bar-​like into, I dunno CHEERS II EVEN MORE SHOTZ, GAH — but I tip my biggest hat to them for getting it done. Plus I mean, the name of the place is VULCAN GAS COMPANY. Word.
Plenty of room for the dancing, plus the cozy lighting, reminding me of (cue schmaltzy violins, followed by some post-​raver era beats) the couple of decent dance clubs that were here when I came to the Atx in 1995.
Uncertain what the clientele of this place becomes on a regular evening of Dirty 6^th debaucheryin’; again, I was here for a sponsored gathering between 6pm and 9pm, with relatively docile folk. YMMV.

Got invited to a very cool private party thrown by a fairly large group of influential Austin locals. It’s a long story how I got here but being in the presence of Dom and high end Mezcal being passed around by the bottle is always interesting. Apparently the world is a very small place and various people I met knew people I knew from various places. Roof space, private rooms, upstairs and downstairs bar and a lounge make up very different vibes even if it’s the same space. However it’s the people that make up the ambiance and Im glad I got to see a party part of Austin for my short stay.

Very, very sexy. Want to impress? This is a place to take that special someone to lounge and have awesome drinks. The light effects and the loungy vibe really set this place apart from all the other bars on the strip.
