Looks like Mr. Ning’s has decided to take down their health rating score all together. That’s a bad sign…

My husband and ate dinner here. Saw it while walking around Avalon. Food was some of the best Chinese we’ve had in a long time. Flavor was delicious and it was not too salty as Chinese food often is. We had won-ton soup, egg rolls and Szechuan chicken. It was delicious. Service was timely and friendly. The place was clean.

It’s your typical Chinese food. It came highly recommended by a local for great value with great food. I had the chicken with mixed veggies and brown rice. There wasn’t much flavor, so I ended up adding some sweet and sour sauce. However, the service was great and people were kind.

We wandered into this place on our way back to our hotel and decided to pop in. The service is very nice, the place is clean, and the food comes out quick. Unfortunately that’s where the pleasant experience ends. The food here is mediocre, at best. We had the appetizer platter, everything was pretty bland and dry, our entrée(Mongolian beef) tasted like something you’d get in a frozen dinner. Really nice people, I wish the food was better.

This place was great after being $hanked by so many ridiculously overpriced joints on the island. The service was fine, the beef chow fun and kung pao chicken were great. There’s something strange about the«fried» rice; I’d recommend getting the steamed rice. Regardless, a good, reasonable place to eat!

Found this gem while heading back to my hotel the«Mac Rae» and very glad that I did. This place has old charm feel to it with pink walls, Chinese lanterns and some pretty neat Chinese artifacts. Oh and a fish tank, can’t forget the fish tank. The food is very good, my personal favorite is the shrimp in lobster sauce and of course, orange chicken. As an appetizer I always get a cup of wonton soup, very fresh and flavorful. Service is very fast and friendly, the owner is always very nice and attentive. Great people, great food it’s no wonder this place has been open for so long.

After reading the reviews we were excited to give this place a try. My husband and I walked by the restaurant to find that it had been closed by the department health for a violation in regards to «vermin». I don’t know how to put a zero stars so that’s why the 1 star.

Good food at decent prices. Great customer service. Definitely worth picking up and bringing back to the hotel. Portion size could be a little bigger, but not bad.

Excellent food and service at reasonable prices. Better Chinese food than at almost any restaurant you’ll find on be mainland.

The day after my birthday, I really didn’t have the appetite for the hotel’s continental breakfast so I waited until after checkout to find something to eat. And having already bookmarked this place on Unilocal before arriving on the island, with it right across the street from our hotel, Chinese food it was. Another wonderful Unilocal find! With a warm and friendly greeting we felt right at home. Super friendly without putting on a front. There was a lunch special menu put before us, but I was assured that anything on the dinner menu was available as well. I had mentioned that the lunch specials were a bit limited. After munching on the crunchy noodles placed before us as an appetizer, we were ready to order. Jackie chose the Chicken and Vegetables with fried rice lunch special, while I ordered the Sweet & Sour Chicken with steamed rice from the dinner menu. We shared and really enjoyed the food. I’d recommend this little gem to anyone visiting Catalina. Just an all around good feel here at Mr. Ning’s.

Tucked away on a side street on this tiny vacation island, sits this gem. Nothing fancy here. Hostess greets you right away, out comes a couple bowls of crunchy chow mien noodles with hot mustard and a ketchup-based dipping sauce. Bottled water is brought upon request. There were 5 of us so we each ordered different items to share. I won’t bore you with all the dishes, but the Kon Pao Chicken was very good. It had just the right amount of spice. Our vegetarian companion ordered the mixed vegetables entrée, loaded with different veggies. Unlimited steamed rice is brought by the happy, eager wait staff. We have dined at many restaurants on the island, but this one was most enjoyable and good value.

This is our go to lunch spot when we visit the island. We were recommended by one of the shop owners on our last visit, so we decided to check it out. While the ambiance is nothing too special, the food certainly hits the spot. The service is quick and efficient, and they seem to sometimes go out of their way to ensure the dining experience is satisfactory. Next time your in Avalon, check it out!

The place is charming, the service is excellent, and the food is good. It’s in a very convenient location, with tough to beat quality for the price. Everything tastes fresh and not too salty. If you’re in for the lunch special, it’s more than worth it. Our server was very attentive and super kind.

We came to Catalina for my bday and my BF just had to try this place. Although it was off the Main Street and not what you’d expect to eat in Catalina, it is a must! Steak and seafood is everywhere so something different, and this delicious, was perfect. We had won ton soup, orange chicken, and beef lo mein. The best lo mein I have ever had!

MRNINGS! Just about the only Chinese restaurant on the island and it is pretty good in terms of price. They have lunch specials where you choose your side and it comes with white rice, ballpark around 8 – 9 bucks. Sweet and sour and shrimp lo mein are my defaults here. The staff is really nice and food is executed quickly. They provide crunchy noodles as a starter but I could pass on these. This place accepts card too! Woohoo! Since almost a lot of places on the island are cash only. Water is 50cent cause the island is limited. If you’re fixated on having something quick and salty, mr Ning will sat soft you. Yum! Closed Wedns. and Thursdays.

Being Chinese, I have a pretty high bar for Chinese food. My fiancé and I visited Catalina Island Thanksgiving weekend 2015. We did not know how dead the town goes after 8:30pm. We were foraging around for a place to eat around 8:30pm and wandered into Mr. Ning’s. They said the Kitchen was closing in 10 minutes so we got our food to go. We ordered the hot & sour soup, prawns with lobster sauce, braised bean curd(tofu) with pork and white rice for 2. Total was $ 30 and some change. They gave us paper plates, utensils, napkins, soy sauce, and a bag of fried noodles for us to take back to our hotel room. Everything was really good! Note, if you’re not familiar with prawns w/lobster sauce, there is no lobster in it. It’s just prawns with a runny egg sauce. The next day, we decided to go back there for dinner again because we didn’t feel like spending an arm and a leg on dinner at the other generic places in Avalon. This time, we ordered half order of chicken and corn soup(really good!), half of a wonton soup(not good. it was brown and didn’t taste like the wonton clear soups i’m used to), and shrimp fried rice(not good. It was too brown and soggy). Total was about $ 19. Also got that to go. Overall, Mr. Ning’s has very decent Chinese food and is probably one of the only Asian places you’ll find on the island.

Enjoyed my lunch here but even though the staff was great the food was just alright. Tried Orange Chicken, Lemon Chicken and Combination Lo Mein(noodles). The Orange Chicken had thin pieces of chicken, Lemon Chicken was basically a chicken cutlet with Ginger. The Lo Mein was decent. Thought it would be great but unfortunately I have had better. But when on the island I believe this is the only place because I said I had Chinese to someone at a spot and they knew where I went immediately.

Their orange chicken is pretty good and exceptionally good for being on Catalina! I was shocked to find this quality of Chinese food on the island. Family owned and you can tell it in a good way. I especially loved the décor with the umbrellas hanging from the ceiling.
