Let’s face it. Finding a really good masseuse is about as hard as the knots that form in your back. It had been many months since I had a massage, and my tension-filled muscles were desperate for a good solid hour of professional relief. That’s why I decided to take a chance on the $ 84 price tag for a 60-minute therapeutic massage at this spa. I called to make a last minute/same day appointment and to my surprise I was able to get an afternoon time slot. I showed up 10 — 15 minutes early as instructed, only to be told right away that the masseuse would be 15 minutes late. I filled out the necessary paperwork and was then invited to relax until she showed up. She was actually 20 minutes late, but apologetic and friendly and started right away. I advised the therapist that I like a firm touch and to not be afraid to dig in. I’ve had too many massages that were feather-light and a complete waste of my time, so I wanted to make it clear that I wanted my money’s worth. The therapist definitely delivered on the firmness, but the massage was rather vigorous, and she rushed through the movements as though she was running 20 minutes behind.(Oh, wait, maybe that’s because she was 20 minutes behind!) In my view, a massage is supposed to be relaxing and really effective. A really good therapist will ask mid massage how the pressure is, etc. and rely on strong fingers to dig into the muscles. This gal reverted to her knuckles, mostly, and rapid, rough strokes that weren’t all that relaxing. All in all, it was not the targeted, carefully crafted massage I was hoping for. It was as though I could hear her saying to herself, «I have to hurry, I have to hurry, let ‘s get this over with!» If I decide there will be a next time, I will ask for another therapist. The salon itself is cozy, clean and inviting, and the staff are friendly and professional.
