Went here for lunch, I usually judge Mexican food by how good the salsa is with the chips, let’s just say it leaves a lot to be desired, and we didn’t want a refill. I ordered tacos and we had fajita’s at our table as well. In my honest opinion the food completely lacked spices and seasoning, I felt it was very bland and Americanized. The fajita presentation was cool, but seriously none of the meat had any seasoning. I will not go back, the prices were high for what I thought was very average food, I would rather go to Chipolte or On the Border and I’m not a fan of chain restaurants.

Absolutely awful. I have gone 3 times now. 1st time was spectacular. 2nd not so much. The 3rd and final time was today. We went in and it seemed every server was more concerned with talking to each other. Next was the chips. The chips were burnt. The table aside us had to actually ask the waitress to get them some more of what they needed. The worst part was when they brought out the food. I ordered 3 tamales. 1 pork green tamatillo sauce and 2 chicken tamatillo. They got the pork right and then brought out 2 of another kind. When I sent it back he seemed to be completely clueless and kept saying. they are chicken. The next issue was finally I said bring 2 more of the pork. He finally did and then explained the cook staff was out of the chicken ones I originally wanted, so they just substituted something different.(mind you why are they out on a friday night) After they brought it out in a box togo I noticed the box was torn, had blue ink on it and looked as if someone had done something to it. ANYWAY when leaving we went to pay at the front as they did the prior times and the server followed us up to the register only to pull out his iphone and run my credit card. HOPE it didnt record the info. Anyway. awful experience 2⁄3 times and I suggest NOONE go there.

Under whelming and over priced! The dining room was empty(bad sign) when we arrived and the prices were high for Mexican food, even for a nice dining experience. The waitstaff seemed less than thrilled with their job. There was no «dining experience» created. I felt like I was at Denny’s or Waffle House. Overpriced queso dip; $ 8 for a shallow plate! Presentation of food was trying to be too elegant for the atmosphere, like putting lipstick on a pig. Fajitas were blah, no spicy element, the rice was dry. Between two of us, we ended up spending $ 40 for a sucky meal. A good idea gone wrong overall. Skip it and make the drive downtown or even to Bloomington for some authentic Mexcian.

We used a coupon that was good for an appetizer, 2 entrees, dessert &2 soft drinks for $ 29.95. That would normally be a good deal, except they were out of the first 2 appetizers we asked for and had to settle for something we didn’t really want, they were out of iced tea, and out of fried ice cream, so again had to go with a dessert we really didn’t want. When the waitress brought the dessert out, she explained there is something wrong with the freezer, which is why the ice cream was near melted. If your freezer is not keeping food at the proper temperature, I want to get the Board of Health on the line ASAP. Also, when we paid the bill with a credit card, the waitress pulled out her iPhone which had a card-swipe doohicky, then handed us the phone to fill in the tip & sign with our finger. The whole time I’m wondering, «Is their network secure?» and«Can she store my credit card number on that thing?» On the plus side, the food was good(even though it wasn’t exactly what we wanted) and the service was very fast. I would make a suggestion to have a glossary of some of the dishes on their menu. I don’t know what«Ix’ ni pec» or «guajillo adobo» or «calabacita» are. But, based on the above, I won’t be back.

Very good place. Upscale décor. Clean. Professional food prep and service. The owner is the same as El Sol de Tala on the East side. His son seems to be the manager of this location. Very high quality, and more authentic than Americanized. I loved the thin crispy chips. I LOVED the made-in-house salsa, VERY good and professional. Guacamole dip was EXCELLENT. My chicken fajita lunch was served on a heated brazier thing, if that’s what you call it(a lighted sterno underneath to keep it sizzling.) Good flour tortillas, rice, and beans. I’ve never been to Sol de Tala, but now I’m going to have to go there too. I’d almost call this haute cuisine, or at least _cuisine_, not just«food». Prices are a little higher than authentic Mexican places, but it’s definitely worth it.

«It means the sun and the moon. That’s all,» answered our server when I questioned him about the name of the restaurant. K’iin Uh is a new Contemporary Mexican Cuisine restaurant located in Avon. Inside is bright, cheery and colorfully decorated. It’s comfortably roomy inside with 2 separate dining areas and a dark cozy tequila bar in the back. We stopped in for a late lunch on Saturday to check-out the menu(their website is still Under Construction) and have a couple of drinks. The menu boasts many extremely interesting dishes which are definitely more upscale and pricier than your average Mexican strip mall restaurant. Chips and salsa were brought out right away. The chips were warm and crisp and the salsa, I believe, is a cooked salsa served cold and was slightly sweet with a medium spicy kick and nicely seasoned with mexican oregano. For our late lunch we ordered guacamole($ 7.95) from the appetizer menu and 4 tacos($ 3 each) from the Taqueria menu. We were asked what we wanted to drink but it would have been nice if they actually had a drink menu. To make things easy we ordered a Negra Modelo beer($ 4) and a regular margarita on the rocks($ 5). The margarita was good and tasted just like El Sol de Tala’s. The guacamole, a huge serving in a large stone mortar, was delicious. Large chunks of avocado and tomato and onion, finely diced hot serrano peppers and all held together with creamy, mashed avocado and garlic. Oddly it was missing cilantro but I still liked it thoroughly and this fact and the chunkiness of ingredients set it apart from Adobo Grill’s guacamole. The tacos arrived on a platter with side accompaniments of tomatillo salsa, chopped cilantro & oregano, diced onion and lime wedges. Each taco was served in 2 steamed tortilla wraps(corn for us) and were filled with meat only. They offer 10 different meat choices so the decision was tough. We had ordered 4 different tacos but were brought 2 of the same in error.(No good, the place was not busy.) The lengua taco was packed with overly large cubes of cooked beef tongue which made it difficult to keep in the wrap. The lengua was pretty good but seemed under-seasoned. The tilapia tacos were wonderful and filled with an abundance of blackened fish that was tender and juicy. The pork belly taco was great(pork belly!) but the portion was skimpy and was masked by the thick corn wrap. We really enjoyed the taco of roasted fresh poblano pepper encased in a creamy, gooey cheese sauce. Delicious. Now, how do I rate these tacos against a taco stand or a Mexican grocery store taqueria? Honestly, K’iin Uh’s tacos were not as good. But, I would like to give this place another chance and try one of the Signature or Traditional or Seafood entrees. The also have a nice Vegetarian menu section. With things like«lamb shank marinated in 13 spices» and«roasted anchiote marinated pork baked in banana leaves» and«slow braised short ribs in Negra Modelo beer» and«homemake mole with chilies, herbs & spices» and«whole tilapia» and«dulce de leche crepes» on their menu I really HAVE to go back.
