Peppermill Restaurant

We stopped by during a visit to Bad Axe for the weekend. I had beef stroganoff and the beef was tender. The soup and salad bar were well stocked with a variety of soups and cold sides. The food was reasonably priced and for a family of six that’s important. And it’s always a plus when the kids eat without complaining. We will make it a point to go back.

Been waiting for my breakfast order for 27 minutes will let you know if it arrives and the quality if I don’t pass out first.
Was worth the wait. Irish omelette excellent.

I loved the split pea soup and it’s rather difficult to find beef stroganoff anymore.

Were in a crunch for a sit down meal, and popped in here. Looks a little long-​in-​the-​tooth, but food was delicious, and a good value.

Only because there is no where else to eat in Bad Axe. In any other town this place would be closed

Went here this morning. Friendly welcoming place. Got breakfast, I got oatmeal and eggs on the side, we got our food at a decent time within when we ordered. Just ordinary food, nothing special from what I got. I would come again and try something else. I recommend coming if your in town

I would go here over big boys any day. The place has a nice small town country feel with the smell of bacon and a cute little soup and salad bar as well, Nothing on the menu is out of the ordinary but I guarantee you the coffee is always hot and the food hits the spot. Worth a try to anyone who has not been there.

The food was good, nothing to special. My husband and I go every now and again for the salad bar. They could have a wider selection of things on the salad bar. Service was excellent, very friendly. Will certainly go back in the future.

While heading up to Port Austin for the weekend, My boyfriend and I decided we needed a quick bite to eat. We settled on Peppermill and sat ourselves in a booth in the corner. I ordered a wrap (new york wrap, maybe?) And he had ordered a house club sandwich, both served with fries. They came out very fast and my (huge) wrap was so hot and fresh when it arrived, both meals were delicious. Service was great and we were satisfied — in and out very quick.

Homemade rye bread toast, a carafe of coffee (not just one cup), tasty eggs, bacon, and sausage. I was so pleased by the delicious breakfast I got there, I had to come home and tell you. Friendly staff. I will come back again!

Don’t. Just don’t. If everything thawed and cut open from a bag of Gordon Food Service products is your jam, you’ll love it here. You might also love if here if your taste buds have been singed off in some freak accident and aren’t able to tell how bad this food is.
They aren’t shy about disguising where their food comes from, GFS labels on everything.
Their main means of cooking is with a microwave. So do yourself a favor and go to the IGA or the Walmart and pick yourself a Tombstone pizza and save yourself $ 20.00 and the grief of waiting for a sub-​par meal.
It’s true that edible restaurant food is hard to find in the thumb but this place is truly awful.

It’s a pretty decent restaurant. You don’t really have a whole lot to choose from in Bad Axe, but this is kinda your typical family style restaurant. The food is decent but nothing really special. The staff seemed friendly though.

I stop here frequently for breakfast when traveling to the Thumb for business. Good eggs, great toast, quick friendly service. It gets to the point where we don’t get menus, because we’re there every day for weeks in a row. There’s a pretty regular breakfast crowd in here weekdays.
I actually look forward to Thumb travel because I can get bacon, eggs, hash browns, and their excellent toast every morning before heading out to the field to play with wind turbines.

We drove around Bad Axe looking for a place to eat and found the Peppermill, it appeared to be the only sit-​down restaurant in town. It was around 1PM, I ordered a hot meatloaf sandwich, and my wife ordered an omelette, since they have all day breakfast.
My meatloaf came with mashed potatoes and stuffing. I could taste the dehydrated onions and celery in the stuffing, and it tasted like it came from an instant mix. The gravy was very salty, and also tasted like it was canned or instant. The meatloaf was kind of bland, but at least it was real meatloaf, unlike the stuffing. The mashed potatoes were real though, and were actually very good. Overall, my meal was the definition of mediocre.
As for my wife, she works is a cook by trade, so she knows how things work in restaurants. She said the hashbrowns were good, but she took a few bites out of the omelette, and pushed her plate to the side. It was greasy and gross. It was filled with these nasty onions, that my wife said tasted like they had been sitting in artificial butter for 2 days. She couldn’t eat it. I tried it too and almost spit it out. The omelette was pretty much inedible.
The waitress came up to take our plates. This was the second bad restaurant experience in 3 days in the Thumb, so we didn’t say anything about the omelette. The waitress didn’t even ask why my wife didn’t eat it, which I would think any good server would do. We paid and left, and began our long trip back to Ohio with my wife frustrated and still hungry.
I post this negative review not to be a jerk or a food snob, but because 2 out of 3 restaurants we went to in the Thumb were very bad. This is a big tourist area, and these people are sitting on a potential gold mine. If they actually served fresh food with real ingredients, they would rake in the money. As it stands now, I’m bringing my own food next time I go to the Thumb. Also, it’s interesting that Unilocal chose to «filter» another negative review, because that review looked similar to our experience at this restuarant.

Steaks were overcooked and the salad bar was less than desirable. The wrap was good on the other hand so if you are going to eat there, I would suggest that. Okay service but arrived late and tried to push us out as it was getting close to closing.

Pretty good food. Have been here several times in my trips up north and keep coming back, so, that must mean something, right? Its got a nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and food comes out at a descent pace. Actually, there aren’t many other places to eat in that area, so, this kinda has a monopoly on the breakfast crowd, but, its good, so, that’s not a bad thing…
