Some Bakeries are hit & miss, but as a last minute whim to kill time since I missed the first ferry-I gotta say I was pleased to have stopped in. First of all, apparently customers love their bread & toast. If I had more time & the lines were shorter I would have inquired more about it… I did however get a banana nut loaf bread & an amazing spinach goat cheese quiche. I can sometimes be an early morning Starbuck’s junkie & banana nut loaf bread tends to be a frequent flyer for me. Blackbird’s did not disappoint. Thick, fresh, not overly sweet, perfect crunch of the walnuts-I was sold! The quiche though stole the show. Soft enough to melt in your mouth, nice implementation of spinach… no sogginess here. The crust alone could be snacked on…& best part-it had some kind of mild spice kick to it. It was soooo good, & so fulfilling. Latte was good-typical, but I’m still dreaming about that quiche!!! Service seemed constant, I was surprised by their efficiency with large crowds. Glad I came in:)

Cute bakery with decent items. We tried several: apple pie, bran muffin, apricot scone, a vegan chocolate loaf cake. They were all good but nothing really blew us away. Probably my favorite of the lot was the scone. Coffee was middling. They also sell some nice looking loaves of bread and fresh cupcakes. But I don’t know if I would come back to this place when we come back to the island.

Yummy food options, good coffee over several visits many months apart. Seems to be consistently good. Can be busy(a good sign).

I love the lattes here. The first time I came, I got a scone, the second time I came, I got a downtowner and a quiche and then wanted cake. Can’t wait to come back here. Those downtowners are soooo yummy! The only problem is I don’t live on Bainbridge so I gotta take a ferry to get here :(but whenever work sends me up, I get my fill of delicious pastries and yummy coffee :)

My favorite bakery/coffee shop on BI. Try the«Toast w/Jam» or a «Helen’s». Best in the joint. And really nice staff. Definitely stop here.

I have been coming here for-let’s see, 15 years? It has always been consistently good. Yes, the prices go up, but I don’t order coffee and I always get the toast and jam and when it’s fall/winter the«winter elixer” — basically hot ginger tea with cranberry. So yummy.

Experienced poor customer service. Messaged business directly to talk about it but received no response.

Out of soup that was on the board. Unilocal said they were good for soup and quiche. So they only had one choice of soup left, and the quiche was served luke warm… tasty but not hot! The sliced bread they served, with the soup, was awesome. Service… mediocre at best.

Yummy food, to be sure. Blackbird is an almost must-do when we’re on the island. But… The staff behind the counter typically seem to not enjoy working there. Among the four people working to grab items from the case, ring up your transaction, or make your coffee, not a single one could muster a smile. It’s unfortunate, to say the least. With a simple smile, or a thank you for coming to their bakery, they could surely keep most people happy. Instead, I felt like I was an imposition on their day.

A really nice local in Seatle recommended Blackbird for our short visit to Bainbridge. It was raining when we got off the ferry, so we speed-walked the 10 minute huff from the ferry terminal to Blackbird and grabbed a seat. I ordered a coffee for me and a pastry to share with my bride. Both were solid. The place is clean, if a bit plain, with a moderate amount of seating, and the staff was kind and helpful. Food = 3⁄5 Facility = 3⁄5 Service = 3⁄5 Ambiance = 3⁄5 Value = 3⁄5

If I were giving JUST the baked goods a score, Id give Blackbird a 4.5 out of 5. Unfortunately, I recently ordered a tall cappuccino from them and it came out awful. Either they dont know what theyre doing with the espresso machine or they are using bad beans. Either way, I wouldnt go back here for coffee again. Its a bummer because their prices are reasonable, $ 2.80 for a small double cappuccino, but your money is well worth going to Pegasus down the street. People at Blackbird are pretty friendly, but unfortunately it just doesnt make up for the bad cappuccino.

This is not a great place to come if you are on a little bit of a diet, as I was when I visited. The latte was lovely, with one of those artistic foamy designs on top. Because of said diet, I got an apricot scone, which in my taste was a little bit dry, but that’s probably just because I was comparing it with the lovely much-sweeter-and-gooier treats that my companions were enjoying. With a light, bright interior, this place is a nice spot for a hot beverage and a chat with an old friend.

*** In Short *** Decadent and deliciously rich(mostly) traditional American pastries. *** In Depth *** We showed up a little hesitant, with all the mixed reviews for Blackbird, but ended up being pleasantly surprised. While my friend stuck with a simple scone for breakfast, I went for something a little warmer and more savory, getting their potato cheddar quiche, which was, as you’d expect, dense, yet soft, but enjoyable either way. I also nabbed one of their chocolate chip cookies and pecan walnut brownies to go, which I slowly nibbled away at over the next two days. If you enjoy really rich and dense traditional pastries, these are definitely for you, with both packing a bunch of chocolatey goodness. ***Accessibility Info*** Venue — Two entrances, one with steps, and the other without, so don’t show up thinking they aren’t accessible! Once inside, you’ll find an assortment of regular tables, and many more booths. I found that I could roll right up under the end without trouble, but your mileage may vary. Bathroom — Didn’t try them.

Love Blackbird Bakery for morning coffee and just a great place to relax. Beleive it or not, I love their whole wheat toast! Yep even the simplest ‘treat’ is GREAT at Blackbird Bakery!

Super cute downtown bakery, upscale feel without being uninviting. Great for brunch and lunch, variety and comfortable atmosphere. Window seating is perfect for a rainy day or people watching downtown. Courteous staff, quick service and real dishes! Prices are better than corporate giants and food is better too. Beautiful cakes for taking home and pleasant décor. And they DO take credit!

I think 4 stars is right on. I enjoyed my Americano. The lavender shortbread cookie had good flavor but was kind of dry. We came around 4pm and almost all of their baked goods were sold out. Service was friendly. Their cakes looked beautiful. I would like to return and try more of their offerings!

Love, love, love. Friendly staff, herbal teas, coffee and amazing European style cakes. At first sight, the pastry options appear meager. That’s because they slice everything fresh to order rather than keeping it out in the open, so just ask what cakes are available by the slice. Indoor seating is available, so grab a seat and savor each bite. I chose a gluten-free almond flour layer cake with mascarpone cream and fresh island berries. Word! The best friggin’ slice of cake I’ve had in a long time. Icebox Café in Miami Beach comes to mind(Oprah’s fave) but this is ten times better. And gluten-free! Miami needs to jump on that band wagon. Pronto. If you’re a cake and coffee person, you can’t miss Blackbird. Worth a ferry ride just for that.

Reasonably-priced, freshly baked pastries that are light and not too sweet, fresh strong coffee, and a polite and efficient staff, what more could you want? There can be a long line when the ferry arrives, but it moves fairly quickly. There’s indoor and outdoor seating and some savory options(of the quiche variety, not like eggs and sausages) as well. Overall, an excellent bakery and a lovely first stop in Bainbridge!
