Great little place next to our hotel, suggested by a fellow guest. Warm, cozy, clean and friendly, we honored St. Pat’s Day with corned beef and cabbage. Portions were hearty and tasty, with the chef himself checking to see if we were enjoying our meal. The convenience store in the same space is manna for hotel-bound tourists. Picked up some beverages and snacks for the evening and found a great variety of choices.

I cannot say enough great things about this place. Nice casual place to eat dinner with the hubs. Leave the kids home. This place is def for an adult palette plus I’m not spending $ 10 on a burger for a kid. Expect to pay around $ 30 for 2adults but 100% worth it. We got cloud bread, shrimp po boy, basil soup and chicken wing egg rolls. Def ask how they make each item. Each thing tasted so flavorful and developed. So much care and prep goes into each meal. And they were so thankful for our business. The high schoolers working here actually cared about our opinion of the food!!! You don’t find that anywhere. I’ll be back tomorrow. I can’t wait to try the burger.

Thanks Unilocal, this one is a keeper. Jake is a really nice guy that cares about his food and his customers. Must be relatively new, and we got lucky. Good satisfying food. We had the soup, salad with salmon, potato salad and egg sammy. Our stomachs were happy!

I don’t know about everyone else but I found this place to be surprisingly good! Jake’s is basically a sandwich /salad /soup /bakery counter inside of a gas station convenience store. I had the egg sandwich & it was great. The rest of my group ordered a bbq sandwich and a huge salad and everything was more than satisfactory. I’d go here again & recommend it! Especially if you don’t want to spend a lot of time or money at a traditional sit-down establishment.

Gourmet gas station? Only on Bainbridge, and you know what — It works. This was my second time going, first time I had the trio of salads and loved the dill tuna salad. This time I had the beef and pork burger(gourmet junk food) and frankly, it’s the best burger I’ve had in a really long time. Totally worth $ 9. Some things I love: Gluten free baked goods Tons of side options — slaw, pasta salad, actual salad, etc Ever-changing seasonalish menu Things I dislike: Limited seating(it’s a gas station) Food purchasing process — It’s a bit confusing unless explained, you order, then pay the gas station, then go back and pick up your food(once you show them your receipt).

I know, I know, I know. It’s in the back of a gas station. I get it, that’s weird. And I was really, really, really skeptical. If my 3 year old hadn’t been acting like a monster and I had been thinking more clearly I probably wouldn’t have listened to my wife, who found this place and tried to sell me on it… And then I would’ve missed out on a true gem! The burger was amazing. Jake was on site while we were there and because I’m a bit of a gluten-free weirdo, he tossed the bun and turned my burger into an amazing salad! Seriously. It was great! Not only that but they also had some amazing gluten-free peanut butter cookies! We took the food to go and went to Bainbridge Island Brewery to cap off our evening. Don’t miss this place!

Had a delicious turkey sub(the aioli added just the right zip), and a potato salad that is(almost) as good as mine. Staff was helpful and friendly. Will definitely return.

Amazing find… limited menu, but the menu is crazy good! a wee bit on the pricey side, but the flavor and quality make up for that. It made the 2 hours in traffic leaving the island worth it!

We asked the Historical Museum what they recommended as a place to eat, they mentioned a gas station. I was highly skeptical. Really, gas station food that is a «MUST» try stop on the Island? This is the first time, and probably only time, that I can say I have had one of my best meals at a gas station! The café is located at the back of this sparkling clean store. The kitchen is so shiny it might blind you. This is a family owned operation, and most likely the chef’s wife will great you and ask for your order. Yes, this is not your ordinary cook, this is a well established chef with an impressive resume. The menu is mostly made up of organic food from local sources. They even have coffee sourced from Stumptown Roasters! Once you give your order, you can watch while the master chef prepares your meal. They also have many delicious options for those with gluten sensitivities. Their glass case is full of yummy treats made from scratch, I know as I took away several to try later. They even make their condiments from scratch, and have organic real ketchup! The pulled pork here was AMAZING, and that is saying something coming from Austin, TX were they have great BBQ. If you are wheat sensitive like me the BBQ Party in the Garden is the BEST menu option. You get to try some of the pulled pork, the mustard coleslaw, and scrumptious potato salad. The menu price for the quality of food is unbeatable. They have some tables available inside to sit at and enjoy your food. When the weather is nice there is a covered outdoor seating area. If you are on a road trip and looking to power up some electronic devices, their is a small bar area with plug ins(genius!). Note, when you order your food, you will take the ticket from the café register to the front store cashier to pay for your food. Then head back to the café to give them a copy of your receipt for proof of payment.

One of the island’s best kept secrets. Jake and his staff offer gourmet quality food, operating behind the façade of a gas station convenience store. The menu is limited to about a dozen sandwiches and entrees that are largely organic, and cooked to order. There are tables appropriate for catching a healthy lunch, and also reheat-able entrees suitable for a family dinner. Add to this is a very helpful and courteous staff, and you have a winner.

Too expensive, and too small a selection. Pizza is what you would expect in a gas station…

Wasnt actually able to tell you as I was told not once but twice(once by Jake himself) that he couldnt spare a moment to make a poboy for a first time customer. Really disapointed in the lack of oppurtunity and waste of my time as if my money wasnt welcome. Great menu and concept, great location and facilities, terrible priority of service however.

Yummy! Frittata Sammy, egg Sammy, smoked fresh local vegetables, meats, baked goodies, great coffee, powerballs, vegetarian and gluten free options if needed. And super friendly staff making sure everything is great. Don’t look past this place because it’s in the back of the Chevron gas station on the corner. It’s great and filling, well worth the stop. Owner Jake goes out of his way to make sure everything is excellent and it is!

Checked out Jake’s Pickup based upon glowing reviews from others. Not sure why people are so excited about an expensive sandwich in a gas station with no sides of any kind. I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was good; however, it is not even close to the best food on the island. And at $ 9 for a sandwich without fries or any other kind of side or service, to go back is silly. For that kind of price tag, you can have a nice sit down lunch at the Harbour Public House with good service, decent food, and an awesome view. Jake’s reviews are certain to drop when the newness wears off and they run out of friends to write positive reviews for them.

Gas Station food, worth 5 stars? You bet your surprised foodie self. Let’s make it clear, if it’s your first time here, it’s a gas station, it’s a Chevon. It’s hard to tell what to expect, the sign isn’t clear what to expect. Be prepared, it’s a convenience store, for the first 30 feet into the place. Walk past the shelves of typical gas station food, and you’ll discover with your hungry self, a counter, a menu plastered to the wall, and happy workers, looking to serve, Scratch Made, «mostly» organic, local derived goodness. It was post lunch, the girl and I, came here looking for food, we were hungry, and why not gas station. What we saw, was a menu full of various eats, including a BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich, a Shrimp Po-Boy, a Tri-Powered burger(which was three meats), a turkey sandwich, and lastly a King Salmon sandwich. What to order, everything actually sounds amazing… I order a Shrimp Po-boy, and she orders the King Salmon Sandwich. After a few minutes, and noticing that there seemed to be a steady flow of people coming in and ordering, our food came out. Firstly, the owner mentions that they ran out of bread for the Po-boy, instead, offered up their homemade bun. So how was the food? The shrimp was fried perfectly, the lettuce was crisp, and the bun… It was excellent. It was light, tinge sweet and perfect for the fillings. She got a nice salmon fish sandwich… And while I didn’t eat it, hearsay would describe it as pretty darn good. Also, we got their donut/scone thing… Which was a cross between the two texture wise… Baked, raisins and coated in sugar glaze. It was a small yet delicious bite, well made and delish. So should you go to a gas station for food… If they are like this one, then this is a stern YES.

Once again, Unilocal’ers have not steered me wrong! On a daytrip to BB Is. this past Saturday, we knew we needed some additional items to add to our picnic lunch and I had looked up Jake’s and decided it was a good one-stop shop with the kind of high-end quality items we foodies require. Once off the ferry, hubby filled gas in the car at the Chevron while I went inside with our little to scope out the situation. We were able to buy a small whole milk, ice for the cooler, a couple of kid’s organic Clif choco-chip granola bars, and a bag of Sunchips in addition to the Jake’s pickup items! How lovely :) As for Jake’s… hubby decided on a cod sammy and I got a pretzel(an experiment Jake was working on… an unproofed boiled pretzel, with giant flecks of sea-salt) served with a spicy mustard. The cod sammy was small… but from my single bite, quite likely the BEST fish sandwich I have ever. No Joke. So the $ 11 price tag was well worth it, IMHO. I know this place is controversial for it’s pricing, but I will always pay for quality over quantity. Hubs was in 7th heaven. The pretzel was again, one of the best I have had. At $ 4.75… yeasty, soft, and flavorful with the perfect foil of the spicy, tangy stone-ground mustard(which for someone who generally isn’t a big mustard fan… was amazing!) There are a couple of very small tables in the back end of the convenience store and a few picnic tables outside in case you want to eat-in, but this is generally the kind of place best to grab and go(hence, the name«pickup»). Looks like I will find an excuse to go through Bainbridge on our excursions to the Peninsula from now on!!! :)

Well I’ve tried Jake’s a couple times now. I keep hoping it will get better. 1st problem is the prices. My hubby works in Seattle as a sous chef in a private, exclusive club. Their burgers are cheaper AND you get a view from the 73rd floor while you eat it. Plus the bun that it’s served on isn’t greasy and turns to mush while you are trying to eat it. Second problem is that the food is alright but basic seasoning is not done properly. I just paid $ 14 for lunch at a service station and my tuna salad has no salt and pepper? Or I just paid $ 4 for a small side of home fries and they are so salty I can hardly eat them. I gave them two stars for the great service. The staff is friendly and they expedited my orders quickly the few times I have gone there. The food is mediocre at best.

Jakes is such a good idea. I have eaten here a few times now, and my biggest complaint is that Jakes isn’t open on Sundays :) But, the food is great, unique combos, fresh, lots of organic and local options. Nice people, friendly service, and you can typically chat with Jake about what he would recommend, and he clearly loves what he is doing, and will happily share what he has been excitedly creating.
