I’m just going to tell you right now that the best maple bar in Bakersfield is found right here at donut star. I dare you to challenge me on this! I’ve searched Bakersfield far and wide for a maple bar that tantalizes my tastebuds while leaving me satisfied and fulfilled. Too often I’m left wanting at fosters or any other ridiculous donut shop. I live right next to Sugar Twist but if you know anything about donuts you know that their donuts all have the same taste when you really get down to it. Do yourself a favor and make the trek. I know you’ll be having to drive to Oildale but don’t worry if you do it in the day you’ll be safe…

Just as others have said, the place is not much on atmosphere but I decided to give them a shot. The lady working in the front was super sweet and talked to my toddler and made him smile. The donuts were good but they were out of apple fritters fairly early, she said those are the first to sell out. I still prefer Smith’s bakery but this is a great second choice. Yum!

I travel 20 – 25 minutes just to get donuts from this place. Been going for a few years and will continue to go and support a local Bakersfiel business. The owners/staff are very fiendly and always have a great attitude. The donuts are always fresh and tasty. They also have crushed ice which is always a plus! The inside/outside of the building is very nice to look out, but you’re there for the donuts anyways.

Set up in front of the shop for the NOR Christmas Parade. Got a glaze twist, maple bar, and some donut holes to share. All were fresh, LARGE, and good tasting.

I was craving an apple fritter so I decided to drop on in. The building is not much to look at. If I was really picky, then I would just keep on driving past it. I was glad that I decided to give them a try though. I was greeted right away with a hello and a smile by the crew. They had all the usual suspects when it comes to donuts including the apple fritter. So, I bought that and a maple buttermilk bar. Both donuts tasted good. They were both fresh. The apple fritter was one of the better ones that I’ve had at donut shops in Bakersfield. Because of the good customer service and pretty tasty donuts that are affordably priced, I’d recommend you dropping in for some sweets. Just don’t mind the way the place looks outside and inside.

This place is a little mom and pop hole-in-the-wall donut shop that doesn’t look like much from the outside. It doesn’t really look like much from the inside, either. What is important, though, is that the people who run it are very friendly and the donuts are pretty tasty. Fellow Unilocaler, Kate B, and I dropped by for a little donut to be our dessert after having lunch at a local restaurant. She bought an old fashioned donut, and I had an iced chocolate bar. Both donuts were just the fresh and sweet tasting carbo-bombs that we were looking for. This location isn’t too close to home, so I probably won’t be here often, but If I’m in the neighborhood(possibly picking up coffee at Covenant?) I’d certainly consider coming back.
