I love the tortas. They are so delicious and pretty big. I loved going to the original and this one is pretty good as wel.

The water is great! But everything else is definitely subpar. I really did try to love el fogon because a majority of my friends love it! But alas, I could not. I ordered the tostada which was ok but I ordered the chili verde(because my friend said it was really good) and it was probably the worst food I’ve ever had. This was a couple months ago. Then one night recently a friend of mine(who was drunk) requested me to drive her to el fogon; practically insisted. I thought«why not, give el fogon another shot» we walk in and the place has one midsized family and 2 nurses sitting waiting for their food already. I stood at the counter for approximately 7 minutes waiting for someone to take my order. After I take my order I wait approximately 1 hr with drunk friend in tow. I almost finished my large cup of water before the food came. The food finally comes I ordered a bean and cheese burrito and it was soooo bland and there was no sauces out to put on the burrito. It didn’t taste good and it didn’t sit well in my stomach I ate a 4th of a burrito and decided I could make a better burrito at home and so I gave my leftovers to my drunk friend and got the hell outta there

The food gets 5 stars it’s taste so authentic and delicious! However, it’s in a sketchy part of Bakersfield. The last time I went will probably be my last. A number of odd characters walked in and it was very uncomfortable. Also the place is not in the best conditions.

I went in not that long ago, my boyfriend and I had been on a quest to find good huaraches. When we walked in the restaurant it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. The floors were sticky and black, but I ignored it thinking the food would make up for it. A women took our orders we asked her if they sold huaraches and she said no. When we looked at the menu it said«Huaraches» so we asked her again in which she responded with«yes, we sell them but we can’t make them right now» the cook walked in and she asked him and he said they could make them. So we ordered two. We also ordered al pastor tacos which is my favorite meat. We ordered our food to go because it was extremely hot in the restaurant, no a/c. When we got our food we decided to eat in after all. Our huaraches were extremely small, they were the same size and contained the same stuff a sope had, and I know because our friend had ordered a sope and we compared. We could’ve ordered a sope and paid less than what we did because apparently it’s the same thing in that restaurant. The Asada meat was good though. I ended up not eating my al pastor tacos because the meat was old and dry, and frankly it did not taste like al pastor should. I went back to the register to order a burrito for my dad. I think the owner was there by that time because he seemed to check that everything was fine and the women who took our orders before took it again with a completely different attitude, she was polite and seemed like she was happy to help me unlike the last time she took my order. When she rung me up I noticed my total was $ 10, which definitely caught my attention ton since I usually pay 5 $ 6 for one burrito at other places. When I asked why it was so much she told me they had a regular and a supreme… she didn’t ask me what size i wanted or cared to explain the deals. I left unhappy, I had only ate one small«huarache» and spent $ 30, I felt robbed and hungry. I usually don’t like writing reviews but I had to warn about this place.

Area is sketchy, but the food is good I like their asada fries! The fries are freshly made there! Their tortas aren’t really good but they’re big. I only come back for the asada fries

Came here from a long drive trip late at night. It was along highway 99, and when we got there, it was basically empty. Guy who got our orders was okay, but the lady who made us the food was really nice and accommodating. The wait was long, but worth it. She even made the tortillas fresh. The food was humongous at a relatively cheap price; we couldn’t even finish most of it. Best Mexican food we’ve eaten in a while.

Back in like 06 or so I used to go to El fogon in Lamont so when I heard about it in Bakersfield yeaaars later we had to check it out. Food is good but then, I’m not pretentious and I’m not looking for meal that tastes like the first meal I’ve had after being stranded on a desserted island. Yes the portions are BIG no exaggeration, but the actual building has been neglected. Dirt not dust on the tables old food chunks not crumbs on the tables. I do admit though that the place smelled pleasant like fabuloso. Latino you know that smell, just like mi Jefas canton. Take it to go and you’ll be good. Next time I’m trying the pizza.

Very large portions. I think the food lacks quality. Meat tends to be a little chewy, but still prefer over a fast food chain. If your starving, this is the place to go. Expect to get full, just don’t expect a gourmet type of place.

Had the infamous super burrito. One of the better burritos I’ve had in town, with freshly made tortillas and the carne was tender chopped steak. A cheap meal when you consider it feed 2+. Pizza looked really good too.

So I ordered the giant burrito. I kept looking at the pictures and broke down. I got it with carne asada. The best thing about this place is that for a 9 dollars or so, you get two meals. It would be difficult to finish the whole burrito in one sitting. Now for me and my wife agrees, this place just lacks ‘authentic’ taste. I do appreciate that they make the tortilla fresh, this place just doesn’t do it for us. We tend to love the La Villa’s on the East side of town. Maybe next time I will check out the El Fogon in Lamont? Lastly they charge for cards.

I was craving salsa late at night(around 10:45 pm) I called and found out they don’t have«chips and salsa» but they had salsa. I ordered salsa and a steak quesadilla to go. I had never been to this location, and didn’t feel too comfortable with the location late at night. There was a certain oder of food when I went inside that wasn’t too appealing. It was a bit greasy or oily smelling and also of meat. The floors were ridiculously dirty and off-putting. I was seriously grossed out by the floors. A lady came to the counter to ring me up and me what my order was. I explained that I had called in a steak quesadilla and salsa to go. She asked if it was the large or regular size. I indicated that I hadn’t been given a size option when I called, and so I didn’t know. The lady checked with the kitchen and was told they were making the large size. I think that I would have preferred the regular size, and to be told that there were two sizes when I called. I got my order to go and found out when I got home that it was indeed large! Super large! You could definitely feed a growing boy with this quesadilla. It was tasty and good! But I would have been more than fine with a regular size. Also there wasn’t more than a tiny side of salsa. I had asked three times between phone and at restaurant to buy salsa. Ahhh well… my quest shall continue ;) They have Mexican pastries or donuts for sale. You can see staff cooking through a large glass window. There was one other couple waiting for their order and at least 3 – 4 staff that I could see, so it would seem that someone could give a little attention to the floors. I think that keeling the floors clean would go a long way to improving the impression this place gives.

I live in Orange County but my boyfriend lives and works in Bakersfield and I visit for him and the El Fogon burritos… Portions are huge, staff is friendly, and the tortillas are out of this world. Whenever I’m in town I HAVE to come here.

Called in order. 30 minutes later, waitress never entered order into the system. had to wait. Owner was already upset for other orders taking too long. He should hire more people and stop complaining. Got home and pizza was undercooked, although carne asada and chorizo were scorched. Waste of time and money!!!

Absolutely amazing. They make homemade tortillas for your burritos that are massive. I have grown up in California and eat Mexican food religiously. Prob some of the best I have had.

Found this place through Unilocal, and had read the rave reviews, including a couple that recommended the quesadilla. I’m always in search of a great quesadilla, so decided to finally try this place tonight. Let me say, it was easily the best quesadilla I’ve ever had, and even hands-down the best Mexican meal I’ve had in general. I got the Asada Quesadilla… These things are monstrous. They start with a giant made-on-the-spot tortilla and fill it with perfectly seasoned Asada and a heap of cheese. I ended up with six giant wedges after they cut it. They added sour cream, fresh avocado slices, and pico de gallo on the side. I was seriously amazed at how fresh everything was and how you could tell everything was made right in-house, even down to the sour cream. The huge assortment of baked goods are equally delicious, as is the homemade Horchata! So glad I pass through Bakersfield on a regular basis… This place is gonna become a regular stop. Especially since it’s open 24 hrs as well!

Yesterday I tried this place out. From reviews it sounded great. I arrived and the roof ac was leaking on guests. The new employee wasnt trained on taking orders or what came in the Tortas, but she was polite and friendly. I believe the owner had to come take our order, nothing crazy 2 combos. Minus one star– We waited for 10 to 15 minutes before the second hostess came in asking what sandwiches we had and she was loud and disrespectful to the new employee and us. Then she finally came with our order wrong. Minus a second star– Then i got my sandwich and our fries i asked for a jalapeño like my spouses and was given a yellow one instead. The tortas are huge… but they miss the mark on flavor. My bell peppers were under cooked and my pinaapple chunks were mixed with onion and they added raw onion. Fries were hot but oily. Pan dulce cabinets were open to flies. Minus a third star– No trash cans to clean your own table, empty counter displays, employees working dough did not have on gloves or wear hair nets and they were sweating, which is disgusting. Aguas frescas were ok, horchata was gritty they are better making it themself. Hope this helps this owner better his business. I love Tortas and Tamales Chili Relenos with meat and Pan Dulce.

This is my go-to place for Mexican food in Bakersfield. They have the best, freshest tortillas + great meat and a pretty spicy green sauce. Ridiculously large portions. They even sell huge pizzas. My only complaint is that a lot of the time that I go here they say they’re out of al pastor. I’ve also tried the location in Lamont and wasn’t nearly as impressed.

Absolutely the yummiest(and biggest!) Quesadilla I’ve ever eaten! Home-made tortilla, freshly-made guacamole, and lots of flavor! Friends had a burrito(yes, that is just ONE burrito cut in half in that picture), and tacos. Wish we had something like this closer to home!

I came here on a Saturday afternoon to try the Birria, but they were out! OK, I’ll go with Tacos but they were also out of a couple meats leaving the selection at hand very limited, Hmmm maybe I should order a Pizza! Yeah you heard me right this Mexican Restaurant makes Pizza, they also make Pan Dulce and while it looked good I didn’t get any. So I went with a Torta, they have several options and I actually went with the… Super Torta de Lomo($ 7.99) OK, so the Super Torta is MASSIVE like two tortas in one! but this a case where Bigger is not always better… The massive roll was fresh and real nice, the ingredients were plentiful. Beans, Lettuce, Onions, Cheese, Avocado, Jalapeño and thinly sliced Lomo, for you Gabacho’s Lomo is Piggy, I guess what you’d call(Pork Loin) for me the torta was pretty bland, needed some salsa, more jalapenos or something. The torta is so big I think the ingredient ratio is way off, I’d even prefer they charge($ 9.99) and put more MEAT! maybe that would help out, otherwise it’s just OK at best. Though not all that great it’s Guaranteed to fill you up!!!

Holy Cow… Can you say GINORMOUS burritos? I was on my way home and was craving some mexican food and thought I would stop in and see if they had any vegetarian options. Spoke with the girl and she said sure, they could whip one up for me. while I was there, I noticed they also had some breads and pastries so I grabbed a couple. They were low price but quite good. Love the cornbread ones. Anyway, so I look to the window where my food is being prepared and was shocked at the size of the tortillas. I mean these things were huge. And they just filled them up. This burrito filled the entire take out carton. it was that big. I found the food to be delicious. And it ended up being 4 meals. It was that big. When my mom came out, I took her there and she was in shock when she saw them. I didn’t have to cook for 2 days. :-) I would definitely recommend this place and the best part is it is right down the street from me and open 24 hours. Awesome…
