Food tasted and looked like it was sitting out all day and alot of the food treys in the buffet were empty and the environment felt like it was a very grimy low class place.

Sometimes I wonder why my family brings me here to eat. I’ve been trying to eat healthy and been reading how processed foods give you cancer. So I ate the hot dogs and desserts to really feel like I’m doing something good for my body. I’ll always love the sweets because my blood sugar levels get hoppy!

I have been coming to this place for years. I love the selection of food. When my husband and I can not agree on what to eat we usually end up here. one of my favorites is the chicken noodle soup. There is just something about that broth that I love! I crave that soup a lot. I enjoy the steam veggies and salad bar. We absolutely love coming here for breakfast on Sundays. They have so many breakfast items. Omelet and belgian waffle bar., grits, toast, muffins, sausage, just about everything you can think of for breakfast. My husband is dedicated and make sure we get here before the door opens. Lol so we avoid all the big crowds of people coming after church. I read some other reviews and I guess we have been fortunate because every time we have come it has always been clean and the food stations are always filled quickly and are presented neatly. The only consistently dirty thing I have really seen is the bathroom and it has always had a horrible smell for some reason. I’m thinking maybe the drains? Yesterday’s visit stood out because our server Pamela really was busting her buns all while having a genuine feeling smile. She never stopped moving she was always cleaning something always coming to see if we needed anything and if ever thing was ok. She cleared our plates on time. She was just awesome. We can see her moving up. Since we have been coming here for so many years we have seen the hostess become assistant manager and the assistant manager become manager. All these people we had good experiences with because they gave us excellent customer service and made us feel welcomed. It’s nice to see them move up the ladder for actually doing a good job!

Despise this place. Tastes like cafeteria food. But, there sure is a lot of it. Just unpalatable, unappetizing, unforgivable. But, that being said, if I ever want to eat myself to death this would be the place. You just can’t beat the price.

This location has gone down in quality over time. Your best bet is to go on the weekends. I’ve gone many times on weekdays and the food tends to be dry, cold, and old since they don’t change it and lack of customers keeps the food there. The food tastes as it should for a buffet. The location is fairly clean.

Everytime I come up to Bakersfield to visit my dad and my grandma we go to hometown buffet. We go right when lunch starts. Prices are great. And food is always great! All the waitresses are super friendly! Some remember us by name which is incredible!

I like Hometown Buffet for what it is: a whole lot of food for a good price. No, it’s not gourmet, but it has a lot of variety and it’s good for cattle-call eating. I resent reviewers who want it to be something it is not; it is not upscale or fancy; it is not made to order; it is not designed to please individual tastes. GETOVERTHAT! When I am hungry, and I want a lot of different things, we go to Hometown. Where else can you get pizza and pot roast, mac & cheese and orange chicken, all under one roof? I love the salad bar, though I wish they had real bacon bits, and the hot foods area typically has some twenty different dishes at several stations, depending on whether it is dinner or lunch. They always have ten or more different desserts. If you can’t find something you like at Hometown, you are way too picky. It can get really crowded right around 5−6pm, and forget about Sunday after church, but otherwise, we’ve always felt comfortable with the crowd. People are not always good at managing small children, and that has been yucky at times. If you want a quiet, romantic place, look elsewhere. If you are hungry, and could eat a horse, you’ll be happy here.

NOTIMPRESSEDATALL. With the exception of the fried chicken which I peel of f the skin and eat only the meat. It’s a 50⁄50 place. There’s a 50⁄50 chance you’re gonna like what you try.

Service was good, and so was the price. The food was mediocre and here’s why: I basically tried a bit of everything, although almost every plate had prime cut roast beef on it, which was(for the most part) very good. The salad bar was a mess, and the ranch was consistently empty. The mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and a few others where pretty good as well. Where it goes down hill is the cornbread, which was raw on all the center pieces and had a fishy taste on all the cooked pieces. The ham was cold, there was little«pans» of sirloin cuts with potatoes(which had been sitting there far too long), and things like the chicken fried steak, swiss steak, and general tsos chicken were awful. The desserts where pretty good though, with a decent assortment. All-in-all, not bad, but you must really choose your battles in this restaurant, and your food.

I haven’t been to Home Town in a while and I probably won’t go back, I prefer a sit down and be served but if I’m in a mood for buffet I’ll go to Golden Corral They have more choices of food, seems fresher and price is a little lower I really dislike paying 2.49 for a small drink Also their chocolate milk was out, I informed 2 people, no one ever came to refill it. The place wasn’t clean and there was no supervision around the food, kids handling it, I don’t know what they touch. They could hire a person to watch and serve the kids drinks and save money by not wasting so much of the drinks that the kids pour on the floor.

It has gotten so expensive 50.00 for a family of 5 dame, the bathrooms are always dirty and need something, but the upside they have so many different choices now they added a few different things that taking kids will not be a problem now, ice cream bring the sprinkles back cookies toppings and things my kids wouldn’t eat. Drinks are a lot to choose from and now serving mexican drinks yummmmm :)

I’ve been here twice, and it was because family members wanted to come. I like being served when I go out to dine. The food is not the problem but the place was a hot mess. I wish they would focus on cleaning a bit :)

The place was dddiiirrrtttttyyyy on Sat. @ noon. The one in Van Nuys is cleaner(& busier)… the food was all mediocre. Nothing was really good. Nothing was really bad… Help was quick & mildly ffriendly. Floor sticky, food bits/crumbS all over the floors in carpet. it felt like eating inside a yucky low budget Vegas buffet. Won’t return.

Used to like this place. Nowadays, I do not. The food stations used to be clean & sanitary along with the rest of the restaurant. The food used to taste fresh and look appealing. They used to serve quality stuff. The last few visits they were not so I have not been here in over 4 years. Maybe now, they have improved again. I don’t know, and unless I hear differently… I won’t be returning here again anytime soon.

On occasion I eat here because my mother loves the fried chicken. She says it is always juicy and fresh. I have mixed feelings about this place because I love eating at buffets however this is not on the top of my list of places to eat. I will say that their meat section is really good. They usually have ham, steak and prime rib for dinner. On my most recent visit, I was not happy with the shrimp pasta. The shrimp tasted underdone and that happens to be one of my pet peeves — underdone shrimp. Every time we go here I always get some of the mac and cheese. It is very creamy! They also have a pretty good drink selection which includes red and blue Slurpees. I think I would like this place more if it was more affordable however that doesn’t seem to detour too many people because this restaurant is always packed!

Gross Gross Gross. And that’s just in regards to its patrons! The food is beyond desirable after seeing the type of people that had their hands in and around it. I went here recently for an elderly family members birthday… I think next year I’ll just send a card. When we arrived we were queued in a line that took about 10 minutes. I love how you pay before you ever see the food, because if you did I’m sure you’d turn around and leave. I’m not a Buffet type of girl. The whole idea of all you can eat really turns me off. I’m a quality over quantity broad. The only buffets I willingly attend are Hodels and the Crystal Palace Sunday Brunch. I will never ever go back here. Never. Even free. Take all my buffet-hating feelings and put that aside. It was the sight of a child taking the lemons out of the container sucking each one, then putting them back all while an employee walked by and did nothing, that grossed me out. But if massive amounts of bland potato salad served next to Jello and corn is your thing, then by all means loosen your belt and head on over. Just make sure you don’t get the table with vomit underneath it. Oh, and don’t touch the lemons.

Like way too many chain joints today, Hometown Buffet runs hot and cold, depending on location and management. I’ve visited some that were over the top with service, freshness and quality. I’ve had a hard time finding any really crappy places to eat in Bakersfield proper, but at Hometown Buffet, not only was the food uninspiring and barely tolerable, this location deserves a Special Award for the filthiest restaurant in all Bakersfield.

Never, NEVER come here on a Sunday. Everyone in this town literally comes here after church. The seating is just so packed the waiting line sometimes exceeds the door and circles the restaurant. The food is ok, I wish sometimes they would change their menu. Their buffet has always been the same American Foods, they DID however let us sample their [new, i THINK] chicken cheese panini, I think that’s what it was. Anyway, the restuarant isn’t as clean on this day, and a lot of other things as well run out, like straws, cups, plates, the dessert choices are good, somewhat. Still, on sunday at 12noon their already serving it as DINNER and NOT lunch. Ok seriously?, 12NOONISLUNCHTIME not DINNER. I know the reason why they do this of course is because like I said, EVERYONE comes here on sunday after church, so since they know this happens they make everyone pay for the«dinner» prices and get MORE money out of it. I felt bad for my mother who paid $ 40 for all three of us for an all you can eat buffet with very little variety of choices to eat. My mom is on a very tight budget these days and well to her $ 40 was A LOT, that to her is groceries AND fuel for her car! Anyway, just stay away on sundays. any other day has better service, but the FOOD will always be the same choices.
