Stopped by because the Unilocal reviews were very good. This is a very clean, modern, up-to-date sushi restaurant with very good service and big screen TV and all the fixin’s for a great sushi outing. Two sushi chefs when I came in, around 4:45PM. One of them was Jake, the owner. Immediately greeted by Ryan and asked to sit at the bar and was seated right away. Gave me perfect amount of time to peruse the menu and place my order. He never let my glass go dry. And provided excellent service throughout my visit. Cudos to Ryan for a job well done. Ordered Rock and Roll, delicious. Not like the picture but I’m here to eat sushi, not a picture. Like the sauces on this dish. Also ordered a Baked Scallop, lots of small baked scallops on a cut up sushi roll. My favorite tonight. The baked scallops in its sauce was very tasty. Kind of a sweet and just a slight twang to the sauce. Last roll was the Pinky Funky. Wrapped in soy wrap instead of seaweed. Different look but was very good as well. All the sushi was fresh and well presented. The fish was generous and the rolls were very large. Prices are fair and a little cheaper than most places for the size of the rolls. Jake was working a new piece of Hamachi fillet behind the bar and baked a few small fillets for my bar-mates and me. Wasn’t expecting it but it was very good and fresh as can be. I was definitely impressed with the ambiance and the whole experience. I will be back. I think I found my favorite sushi restaurant /bar in Bakersfield.

Wanted to try a new sushi place and saw great reviews on Unilocal so we gave it a try and we were not disappointed! Waiting was around 15 minutes but the place was FULL! Once we were seated our food took less than 10 minutes to be ready. Our waiter was very attentive and polite. The food was amazing and so was the décor of the restaurant. Only thing I didn’t like was that it wasn’t that fresh inside. It was a hot day in Bakersfield and it felt a little hot in there too… other than that, i really recommend this place!

Just WOW! This place was amazing. Best sushi in town hands down. You could taste everything that was on the plate. Not like other bland sushi spots. Will definitely return. I honestly want to go back right now lol

This is definitely one of the better sushi places in downtown Bakersfield. They have good deals at lunch and I love that there menu has rice free rolls available. The only thing that could use some improvement is the parking situation but let’s face it that’s true of most down locations

Definitely the best sushi in Bakersfield. We’ve been to a number of sushi restaurants in Bakersfield and we come from the Pacific NW so we know good sushi when we have it. Jin Sushi is by far the best in Bakersfield and the best we’ve had in So Cal since we moved here two and a half years ago. I had the creamy salmon roll, which was amazing along with a Philly roll and spicy tuna roll. My wife had the salmon roll, shrimp roll and the Unagi roll which I tried and it was delicious even though I’m not big into eel. The place is downtown right across the street from The Mark so it gets a little congested even for a Sunday night but well worth it. We will definitely be back.

I woke up this morning experiencing one of my most frequent, «Sushi attack’ !!». I met three others at Jin Sushi for an eleven o’clock early lunch. Parking was extremely challenging(perhaps normal, I very seldom visit down town during the day), however, our lunch was so incredibly delicious and service so very attentive, I’ve decided walking long distance for this Sushi is not a concern. We tried the O.M.G. along with CA Roll /Grand Canyon Roll and Miso(I think that’s how you spell it), soup(OMG was based on UnilocalERS comments). Fantastic !!! FricK’n Incredible !!! Absolutely Delicious !! I have rerated this restaurant and upgraded them to a «Firm /Hard Body», FIVESTAR …

Disclaimer: two glasses of wine before dinner so my review might be altered. Lol I meet up with a group of friends for a birthday dinner here last night. The food was delicious and the staff was very helpful. I have no complaints. Bring a crowd and enjoy the sushi.

Came here on a date night with my husband while being in town I Unilocaled sushi bars and they came in as number 1. So we decided to try this place since it was new and has good reviews. We were seated promptly and we went threw the menu decided on the shrimp roll, baked salmon roll and teriyaki salmon(which comes with miso soup, small salad and a good size portion of rice) Both rolls were okay nothing to brag about my husband enjoyed his teriyaki salmon. This place is real nice from the inside the woman’s bathroom was clean that’s always a plus. We will probably give this place another try when we come into town next time.

I heard great things about this place so my wife and I decided to have a date night here. We’ve been to almost every sushi place in town and always look forward to new places. We walked in and was greeted with friendly service and was seated right away. There was a board with their specials and fresh fish of the day. The ambiance was very nice and intimate. The place did get crowded with a group waiting after 6:30pm so get there a little earlier if you want to get in right away. The waitress greeted us with menus and ordered our drinks. The menu was typical and had similar menu items as other sushi places, albeit, it had its unique touch. I appreciated the server who answered all of my questions on what was previously frozen and what was fresh. We ordered 2 pieces of the blue fin tuna, baked lobster roll, baked scallop roll, along with the calamari tempura roll. The blue fin tuna was good, the baked lobster roll and the baked scallop rolls were very decent. I get the scallops and lobster were slightly over cooked. My wife is not much of a «raw» sushi as I am. Perhaps I need to try the other sashimi items on the menu to get a true sushi experience. I do highly recommend this place. I will definitely be going back. Located in the heart of downtown Bakersfield, this is definitely one of the better sushi places in town.

I have a personal confession-I am not a big sushi or seafood fan, although I am slowly venturing out and trying some fish lately. While not the hippest thing to admit, I would guess there are a few others who aren’t too fond of sushi but like me, still go out to sushi because of family and friends. So note this review is not focusing primarily on sushi. When going out to sushi places I usually order the vegetable tempura, garlic edamame to share, miso, and a salad and am as happy as a clam ;). As it was a cold evening my party ordered hot tea to start and the garlic edamame. I love tea. But sadly, we didn’t drink it, in fact we sent it back it was so gross. I don’t know if it was the water or the tea or both but it tasted so so disgusting. We asked for another kind of tea but were told it was the only hot tea they had. I would seriously consider changing the tea selection or making sure the water is filtered. I kept noshing on the garlic edamame to try to take the taste of the nasty tea away. The edamame was okay. It was supposed to be butter and garlic, but the edamame felt almost overdone and left a greasy feel in my mouth. We were left alone for a long time waiting to order. My order was the tempura, miso, and salad. Others ordered sushi rolls like the green flash, I mean green light ;) and spicy rainbow. To my dismay, all three of my orders came out well before the sushi for my dining companion. The miso came out first and was okay. I didn’t finish my small order of tempura which has never happened before. The batter was okay, but not tasty, and kind of oily and some of the vegetables were still hard. The dip was oily and didn’t have an appealing flavor. My salad had a lot of ice burg lettuce, and while I appreciated the shaved beets, tomatoes and raisins to spruce it up, the pineapple dressing was not to my liking, so I didn’t eat the salad after one bite. Service was okay, but the waiter was scarcely around and didn’t ask how we liked the food. He took away my barely touched salad without comment. The ambience was okay-a bit noisy because of the acoustics but not too bad. I would highly recommend the owners going to Toro and trying the large house salad loaded with mixed greens and the delicious ginger dressing and also trying the miso soup and the excellent vegetable tempura and sauce to dip it in. Those same items are absolutely delectable and amazing at Toro. I was really disappointed with my experience here. I left barely having eaten and still hungry. I do get that the main focus of a sushi place is the sushi :) but when a sushi place makes the lesser items on a menu a delight as well, it makes it really shine in my book. The good news for sushi fans, my dining companion really enjoyed the green flash and the spicy rainbow. Also it was cool to see all the pictures on the menu and read the detailed descriptions of what was both in and out of each roll. My rating would be a 1 for my experience but is bumped up to a 3 for the good sushi for my dining companion.

I’ve been to Jin Sushi a few times now and the smallest group was four of us. Service has always been good(not great but not bad by any means) and I have no complaints worth writing about. The food is good and fresh, the lunch deals are fantastic, and they’re generally fairly quick. Even when making 12 sushi rolls because 6 of us ordered the 2-roll lunch special! They come out one after the other and aren’t messy! I have quickly found a few favorites and some quirky rolls that are tasty too! I like the Green Light, the Mexican, Cherry Blossom, the Spicy Shrimp and Crab, the Shrimp Crunch, and many others! I’ve been wanting to try the Mango-Tango but it’s starred(meaning it isn’t allowed as an option on the lunch specials) as well as something that comes out in flames haha. I’m going to have to come back for dinner sometime to try those! I’ve heard great things about their bento boxes, their fried rice, and the Sushi and Sashimi as well! They have so many rolls, you need to come often to try them all! The space is clean and nicely decorated with a tv showing news/sports/etc. Good service + good and fresh food = good sushi place!

Okay, I hate to be a copy-cat, but yeah Jin Sushi, another 5 star rating! Had the very distinct HONOR of getting to dine with the King of Bakersfield Unilocaldom, PT /Patrick and his cutie Queen Bette! THE biggest foodies in Bako! We made plans last week to have dinner and I let them pick the restaurant!(I’m so smart!) Bette picked Jin Sushi; she’d been here before and said it was amazing. (1). Bette-picked;(2). 5 star Unilocal restaurant. Coulda been royally disappointed but wasn’t. For being inland, Bako has a handful of really good sushi places — Bette and I agreed this was one of them. Huge menu with some cooked /non-sushi items which appealed to those of us who didn’t care for the raw stuff. They had no rice rolls, which was great. Contemplated getting one of those, but felt tonight was not a night to try to do low-carb. I had to be a purest and got salmon and hamachi sushi, but couldn’t resist also getting a «Salmon Gone Wild» which had crab meat, avocado, salmon, and more avocado. Yummy, very fresh, large pieces and delish as I thought it would be. Waiter was cool and answered my many questions as to what HE liked there. At his suggestion, I got the gyoza(fried dumpings /like fried won tons) which were great. It’s hard not to like anything fried; but this was extra good because of the perfectly spiced meat and veggie filling. Besides the company, the highlight for me was the sushi, tempura fried cheesecake with ice cream dessert(Yeah!) and the pineapple sake. I’ve never heard of Pineapple sake but had to try it. The waiter said it was the most popular drink on the menu. True, the sake was sweet and tasted a lot like pineapple juice, but I thought it was really refreshing. It was served cold in a BEAUTIFUL sake container, which Bette and I both promptly took a picture of. The people at the nice table were having a fab time too. It was someone’s birthday. As part of the celebration two of the guys were doing sake bombs(a shot of sake dropped in Sapporo beer) guzzled down REALLY fast. We looked over at them as the whole restaurant cheered. I was curious whether one of the guys was going to barf(he sure was drinking that drink fast!) The young lady with them remarked to us in explanation«White people…» Shortly thereafter, Bette, I and Patrick all pulled out our cell phones and took a picture of our dessert. Asian people … The restaurant is in a nice area downtown, a block down from the Mark and across the street from Chef’s Choice Noodle Bar. Though the place was crowded for a Tuesday night, there was no wait, and the parking was easy.

Came here because my coworker mentioned a new sushi spot opening up. Apparently the chef from Sushi Moon opened it up? I liked the food there so I thought to give it a shot. With a 5 star review on Unilocal I had pretty high expectations, and boy was I not disappointed. Jin Sushi is located on the corner of Eye St &19th. The building is pretty modern and is very slick on the inside(black tables and chairs, very fancy). There weren’t many customers inside, maybe just 2 or 3. Upon being seated, you are greeted with lightly salted edamame. We ordered 3 rolls and it took a bit to get them out but with good company it didn’t feel that long. Green Light(fresh): $ 12.95 — Salmon tempura roll topped with avocado and spicy mayo. This roll was so delicious and kind of melts in your mouth due to the creaminess of the avocado/mayo combination. Spicy Tataki(tempura): $ 12.95 — Spicy tuna roll topped with seared tuna and albacore. It wasn’t that spicy but had a bit of an after burn thanks to the chili oil. Very nice. Blazzing Dragon(baked): 13.95 — This is essentially a baked eel roll. I was definitely not expecting it to come out«blazing.» Spicy tuna and avocado roll topped with eel and spicy mayo. I had never tried anything like that before but dang it was good. There was a nice nutty/smoky taste to the salmon and it was extremely easy to eat. The combination of the eel and mayo actually kind of made it taste like salmon. *With these 3 rolls, it was about $ 45. Also, I’m really happy they use the non-food colored gari!(ginger) Service was pretty good. The waitress was very patient with my friend and I as we caught up and completely forgot about the menu. She was very attentive and made sure that our drinks were filled and that everything tasted okay. I’ll definitely be coming back! There was a girl I believe was trying to sell them a new Japanese beer, so I Iook forward to trying their different alcoholic beverages. Haha.

This is a five star place for me for several reasons. I don’t do a lot of 5 star reviews for new places, but this one has my attention. Jin Sushi is only about a week or so old according to the server. It is located on 19th and Eye streets in downtown Bakersfield and has a very hip and trendy décor. The décor has the Asian feel, but modern Asia. The place is spotlessly clean and smells like food, not dusty or old building like. The seating and tables are perfect and not too crowded. Wait staff are friendly and fast. They are there to draw you in and keep you coming back. I went with my wife, who had been there the day before, and the server recognized her and treated her like an old friend. Jin is destined to be another of the foodie stops in Bakersfield that is bringing downtown back to life. So on to the food. Wow. We ordered the Flaming Volcano, Flaming Dragon, and a no rice sushi. The no rice sushi showed up soon and it was fantastic! It was fresh and flavorful, but that’s not entirely it. The flavors blossomed in my mouth, like a flavor dance and they were all good. I was expecting average sushi and this was much better. The two flaming dishes came to the table actually on fire! They were rolls, cleverly wrapped in foil then set ablaze. It was a really cool presentation and had the effect of slightly cooking the outside of the roll and leaving the center cool and fresh. The cooking process was like torching, but better and without burning anything. I went to town on both rolls until we had finished them both, and then dreamed of them last night! They had a smoky, nutty flavor and the ingredients combined one by one to an explosion of tastes blew my head off. I know right? You think I’m making this up. I take my sushi seriously and this is seriously the best I’ve had in a while. YOUHAVETOTRYTHIS!!! Or not, it’s up to you, but that’s just faster seating for me. Seriously though, this place will blow your mind and is way above what I have found in Bakersfield in a while. I think the other sushi places need to up their game.

We decided to try this new sushi restaurant downtown yesterday and it did not disappoint! It’s at the corner of Eye &19th Street. Nice, clean and appealing contemporary décor. We decided to order different items on the menu so we can all try it. For appetizers we ordered the Monkey Brain. It’s deep fried with shitake mushrooms, spicy tuna, snow crab and eel sauce served over a bed of greens. It was alright but nothing extraordinary about it. We ordered sushi from their menu of specialty rolls. We had two fresh rolls(Grand Canyon and Mango Tango) and a baked roll(Dragon Roll). All three were pretty delightful! The Grand Canyon has a perfect kick to it, the Mango Tango was delightfully refreshing, and the Dragon Roll was also delish! I also noticed they have at least two sushi on the menu with no rice! Perfect for my hubbie who tries to avoid the carbs! And oh, no wooden chopsticks here!!! They have fancy stainless steel chopsticks!!! :-) Our server was friendly and our order came in pretty quick. We were there during the lunch hour rush but being new they were not crowded yet. So glad we were be able to try this new restaurant before the word gets around and they get so busy! I will definitely come back and bring the fambam next time!!!
