So amazing! Wonderful service! If you are hungry and want some great food and great service this is the spot for you. The fire cracker shrimp is sweet and spicy and simply amazing. We also love the charred romaine salad with chicken very tasty

I like how the owner and waitress are both trying to make me the bad guy. This just shows how this business is ran. Just horrible!!!

A fun, low key place to eat. I’ve eaten there for over 46 years. They give you huge amounts of food for your money. The pickled tongue is to die for and so are the green beans. I can’t complain about my very meaty lamb chops that were cooked to perfection and not fatty. I give it 3 stars and not 5 because you must Be prepared for the ambiance with a lot of tattoos and Mexican gang members with their pants down to their knees and their boxers hanging out. It lacks class! There were too many shaved heads and tats for me to feel safe. The waitresses were covered in tattoos and made me a little scared for my safety. I won’t be back even though the food was good. I’ll stick to a cleaner, classier restaurant that lacks gang members! Where I feel safe. Sorry! Clean up your clientele.

The customer service at this establishment was horrible. I saw a waitress cover the pitcher of soda with her hand to pour a man’s drink. If the soda going through her fingers into his cup wasn’t bad enough, she was rude to him too! This is a disgusting restaurant if you let your staff get away with things like this! I’m just afraid to think what goes on where no one can see! I better not get sick, hopefully that man doesn’t get sick either. I hope the health department hears about this!

The Tequila lime chicken Salad had a refreshing Avocado Cilantro Ranch dressing with cool crisp jicama, Corn, crispy tortilla strips & fresh lime to squeeze over top. Also had the best Cajun Prime Rib sandwich with sautéed Mushrooms, Onions & Swiss Cheese. The Fries are made Fresh in-house. Super yummy lunch!

When I walked in Pyrenees, the setting was dark, reminded me of an old saloon. Old style bar with red doors. The staff was very friendly, service was great. Dora was my server, she was very attentive. The bread was fresh and the salsa was cold. The salad was amazing. Overall great place to dine. I’ll be back!

Great food with a rather extensive menu. Good surprise to find good fish this far from ocean. Nice wine list. Food and drinks reasonably priced. The new owners are getting good crowds. A favorite among locals.

New to the area and our über driver recommended this place. Staff was very friendly. The atmosphere was lively. I tried the New York steak and shrimp scampi. I was so full after the«set up»(delicious vegetable soup, salad, cottage cheese and bread) that i barely put a dent in my meal. The fries were probably the best I’ve ever tried! Yum!

Under new management, but the food is still phenomenal. When I am in Bakersfield, for any reason, I stop and have a meal at one of the Basque Food Restaurants. I like the Pyrenees because I can enjoy a meal at my own table and my own pace, plus I am able to take home my leftovers. I don’t know how anyone could eat all the food they give you in one sitting. My single meal was enough for 2 people, by far. I ordered the Shrimp Scampi; Basque Style. This included, the typical Basque set-up of cabbage soup, beans, fresh salsa and scrumptious French bread; salad, cottage cheese, French fries, and my main course; Shrimp Scampi. A lot of food. Rod, who is either part of the new owners or manager, came over and said hello, checked on my meal, and mentioned«they» had just taken over about a year and a half ago. I could see the changes. All for the best. The cabbage soup had more veggies than just the normal cabbage, onions and carrots; it now had potatoes and zucchini and celery. Still the same yummy broth. The salad is no longer just lettuce and vinaigrette; it came with corn, cherry tomatoes, pickled beats, olives, pepperoncini, red onion and freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Beautiful and delicious. My main course of Shrimp Scampi was the best I have ever tasted. Oh my gosh, it was good. The shrimps were big and plump, cooked just right, but the sauce was out of this world delicious. It was a buttery wine sauce; creamy and oh so garlicky. I wanted to bathe in it… the sauce was that good! I have been coming to the Pyrenees since I was born… many years ago, and this is the best meal I have had since then. Cheers to the new management. I wish them great success. Mostly because I want to come back the next time I’m traveling through.(I am so selfish) Eat here! :)

If I was rating it as simply a dive bar(establishments which I truly love) I would have given all the stars. It’s got the goods — strong drinks, a juke box, a well stocked bar, the rail, the local community. Settling in just to drink up is the gold mine here in my opinion. My local cohort had never been here before either, so it was a stab in the dark for us both. The food was just A-ok. It was my first time having a Bakersfield Basque themed set up and for months, I’d been looking forward to it. It was truly impressive on the menu — whatever dish you order comes with a plethora of sides and starters come along with it. You get a soup, which for me, was the star player. To which you add salsa and beans and slurp down — then a really basic salad, plus a side of bread. The bread was nice, but again, basic. The pickled tongue, a basque staple, was nicely done, but not something I’d be into normally. I found the pickled cucumbers to be really tasty tho. Next a spaghetti with sauce and veggies come along with my main dish, simple fried shrimp. The shrimps were good sized and quality, but fried and that’s hard to screw up. The noodles and veggies were not my cup of tea. I took a bite but didn’t finish either. Quantity wise? I can totally see why people are obsessed with the concept. Quality wise, the dish were half good and half not for me. My other issue was price — again a ton of food, but I didn’t feel it was a quality value at over 30 $ per person after tax for dinner. Service was stellar — I’m planning to go back for drinks next time I’m in town for sure.

Great atmosphere and wirh the newly added patio and back bar room can’t go wrong meeting up with friends, family or work meetings. Keep in mind it’s not a quiet place(which is fine by me).. . food is good with lots of options. Standard setup, sandwiches, burgers, appetizers or entrees. Steak was great, french dip amazing, must try the lamb kabobs for sure.

Big surprise in Bakersfield. Loved this place. Maple infused pork chop was fantastic. Coquilles Saint Jacques was so rich. The veggie soup was delicious and reminded me of my mother’s vegetable soup. The salad and other sides were a great complement to the entrees. We will have to swing by on a Wednesday to try the ox tail soup.

I was really excited to eat here, as I’ve heard about it forever! My husband and I sat at a booth in the bar area. First impressions was fun; there was a buzz of people and everyone seemed in good spirits. But then I realized the blaring music in my ears! I realize we were in the bar area but it was hard to carry a conversation with my husband, and we were sitting right next to each other. It felt more like a night club; there was a range of music on the jukebox which was fun, but still just… loud. Unfortunately our service was quite poor, and I’m big on service since we don’t go out often, and enjoy the experience. I feel like our server was more interested in getting alcohol for the tables around us and socializing with the(obvious) regulars. She was slow to get us an order for drinks and made it appear like we were an afterthought with the way she was rushing around. Also during our meal, she was obviously disinterested in my glass of Pepsi since it remained empty for quite some time. Someone else brought our food to us and was very nice and brought me some water. However, the food was great! The onion rings are hands down the best I’ve had since… ever. The zucchini sticks were«hand dipped»(very good) and unlike any I’ve ever tried. The batter makes the zucchini literally breaded. Not crumbles like a lot of places do it. But instead, a thin layer of battered bread. Mmm. I had the French dip which is a pretty standard sandwich and it lived up to my expectation. My husband had the basque burger.(A hamburger patty breaded and fried) it was a pretty huge burger and he commented that it was hearty. When the server brought us our check she actually stopped and took a moment to chat and ask how our food was, but honestly I was tempted to tell her«do you even care how it was?» But alas, I’m not that type of person. I took it as her shining us on for a good tip. So that was it. All in all, I’ll go back… But perhaps sit in a different section and see if it improves my odds for better service. :)

When I was driving there I thought«is this the right place»…am I lost again? The area seems remote, not like a place where you’d find a restaurant. But being off the beaten path, is kinda cool. There’s no traffic, and parking is easy. There were enough great reviews of the place to make it worth driving around a bit… A terrific place. Kind of dive-ish, retro. They don’t have menus. The menu seems to change daily. You can see what’s in the black board up front, or the sweet waitress will show you a picture of the menu on her iPhone. There is a large dining area, but I preferred eating in the bar area where there are large leather booths. The first time I came here, I got the New York steak and eggs it was great… I got it exactly the way I liked the eggs, asking them to add spinach and mushrooms to my scrambled eggs. The servicers were great, they were patient with my many questions, and didn’t seem hesitant at all with my special order. I liked that many happy regulars seemed to be there. The place had a very nice neighborhood feel. Update a week later… Came here after not getting into Noriega’s. I really wanted oxtail, and a Unilocaler had recommended Noriega’s for oxtail. Didn’t know that«family style» meant you had to go at one specific time/seating. Oh well. Turns out, this worked out for the best… Pyrenees was beckoning from a block away. It was a sign I think. Service was as I said before, was awesome. They had oxtail stew!!! It was delicious. I decided to eat half, and take the rest home for a later treat. It had a wonderful gravy, and I wanted to eat it with some pasta or rice. Here, the oxtail came with veggies, and no rice or noodles… that’s okay! It did come with two wonderful hunk in pieces of garlic bread and a wonderful salad with A LOT of stuff in it — pepperchini(spelling), onions, blue cheese, olives, beets and romaine lettuce. It was a pleasant surprise to the usual iceberg lettuce with boring drab dressing. I wasn’t ready to go home yet, so I also ordered the lamb lollipops appetizer which came with french fries. Delicious and indulgent. There is a large, well-lit dining area which would be great if you are in a large group. I saw a group of police officers sitting in there earlier. I really love, prefer the bar area. Yes, the music is loud(from Stairway to Heaven to Uptown Funk) and there are more people here … but I like the rough, slightly boozy feel of it out here, as well as sitting in the large leather circular booths. Yep.
