Totally disappointed. Service was great. Food is disgusting. No flavor, looks and tastes like food you get in a convalescent home. The tuna melt was just fishy mush. Boyfriend had the Sunday special. Nothing special about it. Needless to say we left without finishing food. Waste of money. Looked like a good spot but the worse place I’ve ever eaten in bakersfield. Waitress was super sweet though.

The best chile Verde omelette! Inexpensive large portions. My son and I shared the chile Verde omelette and the side of biscuits and gravy. My other the young boys split a ham and cheese omelette with a side of pancakes. Our total bill was $ 30.

This is your typical basic food joint. Nothing out of the ordinary just basic stuff. Fried chicken okay soup was good and the pancakes were good.

About once a week a large group of my supervisors come here for lunch; and while I am invited, I never join. One reason, besides a fear of them being disturbed by my eating habits is because of only a three and a half star Unilocal rating at Lorene’s. Now that I’ve been here, I don’t know why I haven’t come any sooner. As any good Unilocaler does, I carefully read the reviews of other Unilocalers before ordering. I felt comforted Maria M gave them a good review and mentioned the chili verde sauce, so I knew I had to get some of that. However I had to balance the concern of my exorbitant weight gain from my «try every restaurant in Bakersfield» 2015 to 2016 period. Thus, I cleverly solved that problem by ordering an egg white garden vegetable omelette adding spinach and a side of the green chili verde sauce. I only kept the hash browns and biscuit & gravy for my carb and fat loving fiancé who steals /«let me make sure this isn’t poisoned» them anyway. He really liked the gravy a lot; and contemplated it might be even better than Milt’s biscuits and gravy. This will definitely be another go to place for breakfast, especially since it’s so close to work. The food is delish, relaxed and retro setting, no wait /little wait even during busy times and especially cool because it seems to be a regular haunt for many of the locals. Not a fancy special event Sunday brunch place, but if that’s what yur in the mood for, you can go to La Foret for that… The service is very, very good as others have remarked.

If your looking for a quick breakfast that doesn’t resemble drive through go here. It isn’t the most amazing but the service is fast and the food is plentiful. I really wasn’t impressed with the flavor.

We visited this place once but were immediately in love with The place. The service was very good, you could really feel that they loved their business. Also the food was impressive i had a vegetable omelette with their fantastic home made Fries and my boyfriend had a big t-bone steak which was nicely tender. There is a Large menu, and Everything looks Nice so its hard to choke, but it is almost impossible to not find anything to youre taste.

Good prices all the soups are great. Friendly staff. This place blows ihop, cindys and Denny’s out of the water. And the coffee is amazing:) I love it

I ate at Lorene’s yesterday for the first time. I really wanted to like the place. I’ve just moved to the downtown area and I walked over there for breakfast. The service was OK, just not real friendly. I ordered a simple breakfast, a couple poached eggs and the home fries. I specifically asked for the eggs soft poached. They were hard. For the home fries the potatoes weren’t very brown, but the bell pepper was burnt. Not good. It was a real disappointment.

This is another restaurant that I frequent with the family or friends. Restaurant has a little boutique shop inside. There is a bar & booth seating on one side and table & chairs seating on the other. Service is great. Never a long wait. Friendly staff. Food comes in fairly quick. I can come here during my lunch hour with a friend and has time to spare for a short talk. My husband loves to get their Good Earth Sandwich. He is over the moon with this sandwich! I usually order their corned beef hash here. The only restaurant in town I know of to get them. Love it with sunny side up eggs and hash browns! Yum!!! Occasionally, I would order from their daily specials. I would recommend this restaurant if you are looking for something new to try in the downtown area.

On our way to Sequoia, we stopped here looking for a breakfast place, vegetarian and with as little sodium possible in the food to accommodate my husband’s diet. The place is neat and the staff is very friendly. They told us they make their own hash browns and were able to serve us salt-free hash browns which were delicious. We also had 2 different types of nice vegetarian omelets, with veggies just done and still a little bit crunchy. Coffee tastes good. Thanks for being so kind and accommodating!

Hadn’t eaten here in quite a while, so my wife and I decided it was time to give it a shot. We both ordered breakfast items(tastiest food of the day.) My wife had the Southern Omelet, while I had the Steak and Eggs. Décor — Kind of dated, but everything was clean. Service — Prompt and very courteous. The waitress was polite and helpful. She kept our cups full throughout our visit. Food — The food was good. The cook knows how to nail the temperatures. The steak was medium rare and the eggs were over-easy. The one thing I felt was lacking a little was seasoning. We had asked for salsa, so I added a little to my steak and problem solved! The salsa was delicious. My wife used it on her omelet, which she loved; while I ended up adding it to my eggs and potatoes as well… it was yum! I went back and forth between a three or four star rating… I decided because I would be happy to eat there again(and will) it was a four star… I usually skip revisits on three stars.

Why it’s good Good customer service Good ranch Good location/parking Why it’s eh Avg diner experience Eggs are overcooked/dry Clean, but ghetto inside Cinnamon bun french toast is underwhelming A bit pricey for what they are delivering Overall, pleasant experience, but I won’t be back.

Good wholesome food. Fresh and clean. We enjoyed our lunch — chicken sandwich and a tuna sandwich — and the service was great.

We eat here quite a bit … usually for breakfast … and mainly because when I want green chile, this is the place I want it from!!! Their chile has such a fresh, «green» taste that takes me back to Colorado during Hatch chile roasting season! The waitress usually warns that it’s spicy and it is warm, but isn’t burn-your-mouth hot. I usually get the chile verde omelet or the chile verde skillet … I don’t care, as long as it has their green chile all over it! Man, I wish could pull myself away from that stuff so I could try other things on the menu! Oh yeah, I almost forgot about their home fried potatoes … they’re very good, are fresh and is the other main thing I love about their breakfasts. We’ve always gone to this location because we like the retro aspect of it being in the central part of town. We’re weird that way. The service has always been prompt and friendly, but could be a little more upbeat, I guess. I think we just take it as typical, sun-baked Bakersfield charm! ;-)

Came in on a whim, just needed quick bite to eat for dinner. Past experience for lunch was good, so gave it a shot. Biggest mistake! Chicken sandwich taste like rubber, waitress ordered wrong sandwich and fries burnt. Not good customer service or food. I won’t be back… ever.

Was okay. Ordered the French Toast with scrambled eggs and bacon. Scrambled eggs looked dry and like they had been sitting out for quite a while. Service was good once our orders were taken.

My boyfriend and I were on our way to Amtrak-BFD in the morning when we came across Lorene’s on Unilocal. The first picture pulled us in, which was the club sandwich and the hash browns combo by another fellow Unilocaler. So of course, one of us got that dish! While the boyfriend got the club sandwich and hash browns, I got the Sunrise Skillet! It included potatoes(hash, mashed or fried), eggs(whole, scrambled, sunny-side-up, Benedict, underneath your table, splattered on the wall, etc.), sausages, bacon, cheddar cheese, and your choice of toast, fruit or biscuit, which also comes with butter and/or gravy and/or salsa. *phew* I chose scrambled eggs, which were extremely awesome. It was mixed with a bit of salt and a bit of sugar, the way I loveee my eggs. They were not stingy on the bacon or sausages, but they weren’t too generous either. It was a good amount of meat for all of you hardcore carnivores out there. The biscuit was awesome! I love biscuits and I don’t exactly have high standards for that either, as long as it’s not frozen, doughy or burned, I’m cool. I also chose French fries, which was burrowed underneath all of the meat and cheese! It was even better with a dash of their house salsa, which was actually quite spicy. I definitely would recommend this awesome skillet to anyone coming in during the mornings. Super fulfilling. As for my boyfriends’ club sandwich, the proportions were large. You can choose either hash, mashed or French fries for your dish without extra charge. While it looked extremely appetizing on Unilocal,I was kind of sad to see that their choice of turkey was so dry. –1 star for that! The diner itself seems a bit old, but«if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.» The customer service was very polite, no negative vibes upon entering or leaving the diner. I loved the atmosphere – seeing elder citizens chillin’ with their homies so early in the morning and laughing their heads off. It’s very endearing to see!

Service is great, food is great and location is great!!! I highly recommend anything with chile verde… for an American style café they have great south of the border stuff! All of their traditional stuff like sandwiches burgers and salads are great too with large portion sizes. They have something for everyone!

Nothing fancy, just good food. This downtown diner filled with country-style décor is a little out-dated, but it adds to the home cooking feel. I don’t think a lot of locals know about this place because my party of 3 arrived at 7 – 7:30am on a Saturday and were seated immediately. Even as we ate, very few other parties trickled in and I don’t believe it was due to the food. I ordered corned beef hash which came with a choice of hash towns or country fries and a choice of biscuits and gravy or toast… a lot of decent food at a great price. Bf got a meat lovers skillet which he did not finish because it was heaping with food and Dad got a short stack of pancakes with some various breakfast sides, which he also didn’t finish! Overall, a little run down with the bus station across the parking lot(that means people hitting you up for change when you arrive and leave, but they can’t control that), but a nice little hole in the wall diner for some comfort breakfast food! Will return.
