A must visit!!! We ate lunch here after a morning of antique shopping. The restaurant here is really cool. The burgers and shakes are great and made to order. There was a crowd around 1 p.m. but the efficient staff took care of alot of orders and we were all happily fed! One of Bakersfield’s hidden gems for sure!

As an update to my prior review. The food has gotten better(Already good, now fantastic). The staff is faster and more experienced. In my view, this place has gone from a quaint and pleasant find to a serious culinary contender in the city. Keep it up Woolworths!

Forget about it! We had the burger, oxtail, beef dip… all great but it’s the sides that were off the hook. I am so stuffed I can barely write this. Sorry no picture. It is a place to try. The beans are perfection!

Love love love this place! Good old fashioned burgers that taste just as good if not better than another popular chain. I like the fries better than the«other» chain too! So good and you can’t get a better feel than the 50’s vibe it gives. It is conveniently located in what is now an antique mall so you can check out all the neat finds after lunch. They also offer shakes, sundaes, floats and ice cream featuring Dewars ice cream to end your lunch with a sweet treat. Beware if you visit during the lunch rush as it will be busy but it is so worth it.

«Oh so tender» Wife and I went to Woolworth’s Diner today craving a Burger. People… Bakersfield People, this place is AWESOME! Both of us ordered a cheeseburger combo, wife had the burger with fries and I had the new macaroni salad. All are made to order and they were fantastic. It’s funny because we both thought it was as good or better than an In-n-out burger. This place is sparkling clean and the young staff was very upbeat and accommodating. Fourteen bucks for lunch for two… what a deal! After our great lunch we meandered through the Antique store in which the Diner sits. I bought an old Jimmy Buffett Album(major Parrothead) and the wife bought a cool kitchen decoration. What a great experience. We both can’t wait to go back. Wife and I have been back several times in the last few weeks. Every visit has been the same… PERFECT. Great food… had the cheeseburger with pastrami, French fries, chocolate shake and the baked beans… WOW. Great service great food! Try it out you will not be disappointed I promise. Great Bakersfield Burger Spot!

Stopped here headed north on 99 based on the reviews. This is in the old downtown, parking on the street. The restaurant shares the old Woolworth department store with an antique store. Definitely a step back in time when you walk in the door. It is a fairly short menu, burgers and hot dogs. Did not have a milk shake but they looked and sounded great. We all had the double and triple burgers and they were really good. Only about 1.5 miles off hwy 99 and definitely worth a stop.

Good old fashioned cheeseburger and vanilla shake. YUM This is our first visit and we found a bit of nostalgia since we both grew up in that era. The servers and cooks dress in period costume which makes it even more relistic. Won’t be our last visit.

Good burgers! Like my mom used to make. My sister got a turkey sandwich and she said her’s was also good. I didn’t get what I ordered but it was good so I didn’t care. My sister didn’t get what she ordered but she didn’t care either. The french fries were awesome! Cooked perfectly with a great crunch.

My first time to eat here last week with my friends! I can’t believe I’ve never tried eating here! We frequent the antique store in the same building this diner is at but never tried eating there. The place was very busy during lunch when we came in. We all ordered a burger and fries. I enjoyed my food. Service was pretty efficient for a busy lunch rush. I love the retro décor and retro outfits the servers wear to complete the theme! I have yet to come back and try the shakes and other good ol’ American burger and diner food items on their menu! And I need to take the fambam next time!

I was looking for a new place to eat close to work and checked on Unilocal! And found this gem of a place. I wasn’t around in the 50’s but I’m assuming this is what it may have been like. The staff even dressed the part. Two guys wearing white shirts, aprons and bow ties doing the cooking and a young lady in a skirt helped me at the register. You order at the cash register when you walk in to the luncheonette area. Then you get a number and someone brings your food. The décor is that of what I’ve seen for diners with the black and white checkered floor. They also have a counter you can sit and eat at. I ordered a double cheeseburger and fries. It was really good. The burger was juicy and messy. If you measure the goodness of food by the amount of napkins you use, this place wins! That’s a good thing. The fries were good and I really don’t like fries. The entire combo was $ 8.17 which included the drink. Overall it was a great experience. Before I left I had to get a chocolate chip strawberry shake

This place is amazing. I had always known it had existed, but rarely frequent downtown until recent times. Shame on me, I know! I’ve been frequenting antique stores, and decided to catch a late lunch with my husband on his day off before we went on the hunt for an item. After researching restaurants downtown, it was decided we’d give this place a try. It’s located inside the old Woolworth’s building. The building itself is now an antique store, but the diner is inside, in the back. You walk in the entrance doors, and if you aren’t aware of that, are taken aback by this because you see antiques but smell delicious food. Now, as you walk through the aisles of amazing artifacts of years gone by, you can either keep walking to your destination of deliciousness. Or, your A.D.D can kick in, and even though your stomach may be growling(like mine is now) and you hear the clanking of dishes in the distance, the sizzling of patties on the grill, and chatter of guests, you can’t help but stop and look at booths of antiques. Aisles of memories. Old tea cups. Walk slowly past a booth and wonder what the story behind that mason jar is. You eventually reach the iron fence at the diner and walk around to the counter to order. Super hard decisions are made at this counter folks. Like, if you want a milkshake with your cheeseburger or not. I mean really? Given that option, how can one pass it up? Especially with flavors like Butterfinger. Service is prompt and friendly. The place is extremely clean. There is counter or table seating. They have«period» uniform attire I would say, but I don’t remember the music, if any was playing. I do plan on returning to Woolworth diner, and also recommending it others. The food is amazing and the experience is even better. Price is right, and the atmosphere is the cherry on top.

Great burgers, fries and shakes. The burgers taste just like In-N-Out but the fries are much better. The shakes are made to order with Dewars ice cream. If you know Bakersfield, you know that’s quality ice cream. Staff is always friendly and the classic soda counter atmosphere is awesome.

I’m upping my review to a solid 5 stars. Why? Because even though their menu is small, Woolworth’s does EVERYTHING right. Service is always top-knotch. Super friendly folks that are genuinely nice. I feel like I’m in Happy Days! The restaurant is spotless. And if there’s a spill, someone is right there to clean it up. The owner must have had military training because everything is just so automatic. Food is great! It’s not a gourmet 5 lb burger by any means. But it is a flat-top grilled burger with all the fresh fixins you could want. Want grilled onions? No problem! Add Bacon? Gladly! BBQ sauce? Of course! If they can do it, they will… and with a smile!

Woolworth’s is the lunch counter you didn’t know you were missing. Located inside an old antique mall you are hit within nostalgia from the time you enter. There is usually a line, but the throwback soda jerk moves through the line fairly quickly. The menu is limited but more than satisfactory. The burgers taste and feel like In n Out(small, thin patties, with grilled onions, a buttload of lettuce and a familiar sauce) to me, the fries and shakes are infinitely better and the service is to notch. They have sandwiches and pie I believe. I never seem to order them as I am a creature of habit. Parking can be a mess and the bathrooms are a bit of a hike, but the food is good enough to keep me coming back.

Woolworth Diner is a wonderful way to take a trip back to the diners of yesteryear. The food is fresh and simple. There is no corporate razzmatazz or shenanigans going on here. This is old Bakersfield at its best. The quintessential California diner where the sunshine comes in the storefront to illuminate the diner as much as the interior lighting. Sounds of 50s crooners play softly in the background. I sat down and before I knew it my shake was on my table. I’m so used to waiting that I was startled. Three sips of thick shake later and my order arrived. Comparing the double meat and double cheese burger to In-n-Out should be illegal. It is much better. Fries were fresh and average. The price for two lunches was less than $ 20. The restaurant was spotless. The service was exceptional. I can’t believe I haven’t eaten here since I was a little boy. Mistake corrected now. If you love ambiance and great food, you must try Woolworth Diner.

Minimal menu. Easy options. Burgers. Sides. Ice cream. Team work. Nice atmosphere and quick, delicious food. What more could you ask for? If you haven’t yet, definitely give them a try ASAP. :)

One of original five-and-dime stores. I remember sitting at the counter and enjoying a root beer float on many occasions. On an antique shopping day, came across the old Woolworth building. It is now Woolworths Antique Mall. Lo and behold, shortly after walking in, I noticed the diner. I told my girlfriend we have to eat here. It is a seat yourself diner, with seating at the counter or one of their 10 tables. Menus and ordering was at the register. Ordering a hamburger and pastrami, it was so reminiscent of the days of old. The food was eatable, but the experience was worth it.
