My husband and I arrived at 8 pm, 2 grills were full, and they sat us at an open grill. We ordered and were denied our order because they needed at least two orders from the cook top. Even though we ordered Saki, a sushi roll and filet and calamari! How is it our fault that there aren’t enough customers to fill the table? We spoke to the manager and he couldn’t understand our frustration. My suggestion make sure they are packed or they won’t cook for you! So we left! In search of another establishment that will take our money!!!

This place is amazing and perfect to come with a group of friends or family. I usually go for birthdays. The chefs are extremely nice and funny. They put on a great show. She food had always been cooked perfect everyone I’ve went. I have been here a few times, but not something o can do ask the time as the dishes can be pretty pricey. If it wasn’t so pricey it’d be 5 stars, but it kind of its worth it. But other than that they’re great.

Let me list 6 reasons for this 1-star review. Disclaimer: we sat at the regular tables, not the teppanyaki section. The bad: 1. Teriyaki chicken was overcooked. It had a burnt taste. Teriyaki sauce was overly sweet and didn’t taste authentic. 2. My Saba shioyaki was also overcooked and dry. 3. The restaurant was very smoky. The fumes from the teppanyaki section were very strong. The restaurant was not well ventilated. Still coughing from all that smoke. 4. The service was fine until the very end. It took a long time to get the check and for them to run the credit card. 5. Salad was not great. I’m surprised that you get salad or soup but not both. 6. WORST of all, the restaurant was not forthcoming about its tipping policy. The restaurant adds an automatic 15% tip. It’s on the menu, but the servers should mention it as courtesy to its guests since it’s not standard practice. Credit Card receipt still has a line for tip, so if you’re not paying attention, you probably would double tip. The good: 1. The menu has Saba shioyaki. Kind of impressive. 2. The women’s restroom has a baby changing station.

I have eaten in many Japanese restaurants and this one is just mediocre as far as I am concerned. Not bad but nothing special. We ate Tepan and I had the New York plus scallops while the wife had shrimp. The show was OK but you could tell forced. We had more fun with the guests near us than watching the chef. The food was bland and the service just enough to get by. Would we eat there again? Maybe, maybe not.

This is my favorite place! The rice, veggies, and meat are always good. I like sticking to certain cooks but for the most part most of them are pretty good at seasoning the food. By far my favorite one in town.

I «USED» to love Tokyo Garden. It «WAS» my favorite sushi place in Bako, but I don’t think I can go there again after a cockroach ran up on my plate as I was eating my meal. Sorry to ruin it for anyone but I won’t eat there ever again.

My wife and I have been here several times so I’m very surprised I have not written a review, quite disappointed in myself. Last night we came here for a surprise birthday dinner for my wife’s co-worker and it was good like before. We were a party of six but one of my wife’s co-worker had to leave so we were a party of five, but no not like the 90s TV show lol. Typically around the cooking table there are 8 people but last night we had 7 as another couple sat with us. Our Chef, James, was very entertaining which is very crucial at any Teppanyaki restaurant because it creates that much of a better show. James made some cute jokes, acknowledged our birthday girl by making a bunny with the fried rice he was cooking. He put the candle he lit in the bunny’s mouth to illustrate the bunny was smoking, we thought that was funny. I ordered the Filet Mignon & Scallops plate and a Miyoshi Roll, you cannot come to Tokyo Garden without getting some sushi. I requested the Filet Mignon to be medium rare, and when I bit into the meat it melted on my tongue which made me a happy person. The scallops were seared ever so perfectly and had great seasoning but nothing overpowering. The Miyoshi Roll was superb, especially the Craw Fish, I just wanted to scarf that thing down but I was sharing with my wife lol. The miso soup and salad that was provided prior to our main dish was delicious too. All in all a great dinner with entertainment, delicious food and excellent service.

First time I’ve tried teppanyaki and glad this was the place I experienced some fun dining! Cook, James, was entertaining and the company was even better. Hope to come back for some, from what I hear, to die for cheesecake.

We just moved to Bakersfield from Japan. I must say this was as close to authentic as it gets! We had teppenyaki. My steak was perfect, the salad and miso soup were delicious. The only thing that could use some work is the fried rice, it needs garlic! Can wait to go back and try the ramen and yakisoba.

Outstanding! I had the Fire Cracker Roll and the Hawaiian Roll. Substituted the deep fried shrimp for Ebi. It was delicious. I will visit this place again next time I’m in town.

We found this gem open at 8:30pm while most of the restaurants are closing already. I ordered Sashimi Salad. Sashimi salad usually comes with chef’s choice of fish but since I can only have salmon, they gladly granted my request without any extra charge. Everyone was so nice! It was a great experience for us!

Leanna, you are not alone. This was my favorite Japanese restaurant in town also until I encountered the roach problem… two visits in a row. They were coming out of the railing along the main isle. Since I was alone, along the isle is where the two seat tables were. I killed a couple and even trapped a live one under a plate. The really sad part was that the establishment didn’t even blink a eye at it. After the first time I expected the problem to be taken care of. After the second time… well, there will be no after the second time. Got to admit though, the food was very good there and aside from the reaction to, or lack of, the roaches, the waitresses were very nice… actually one of the reasons I went there. I sent this review once before but couldn’t find it Maybe I goofed saving it.

Big fan of this place for Japanese Teppanyaki. I personally think they have the best atmosphere of any other teppan place in town, the service is very polite and attentive, and the chefs always make my young son feel like a super star. The food has always been cooked to perfection, and just thinking about the rice and deliciously cooked filet mignon makes my mouth water. Sort of pricey, but well worth it.

I wanted to like this place. Japanese cuisine is one of my favorites and the place had a nice atmosphere. Ate here for a friend’s birthday with a fairly large group(around 11 people). We sat around the grill because we reserved the table for 15 people and their regular tables don’t seem to fit that many. We all order and about 6 of us order rolls and the rest of us order tepan because we want to see the chef cook in front of us. The waitress says we must move to the regular tables because there is a minimum of 8 people who have to order tepan because the chef refuses to cook for any less. The prices are quite steep which is why a lot of us ordered rolls. The waitress also said that they don’t do individual checks and there must be a minimum of 2 people per check. I’ve never heard of a restaurant that does that. Our party of people didn’t all know each other so it was odd sharing a check as some of us didn’t have cash and were planning on paying with cards. So fine we move and the table just about barely fits all of us. The shrimp tepan was okay definitely not worth the price. The rolls were fresh and tasty though. The tepan comes with edamame and miso soup and a very small salad which is how I assume they attempt to get a away with the price though there are plenty of sushi places that give complimentary miso and edamame. One of our people came late and so she ordered a dragon ball and the waitress brought back dragon rolls, so our party member said she asked for the dragon ball not the dragon roll and the waitress told her that she asked her twice if that’s what she really wanted implying that it was our friends fault. Even if it was, a waitress should be accommodating not try and be right. It was rude we didn’t particularly enjoy our visit. Pricey and the service was bad. They also automatically charged us 15%+ gratuity.
