Got this coupon for my visit to Syracuse. But after we finished dinner(we ordered a 10-piece sushi and special entrée), we were told that we had to order two entrees to use this coupon. Also, the waiter asked me to print it out, which never occurred to me. I explained that this is not in the fine print and we would have ordered two entrees if we knew it. It was around 9pm at night and we didn’t want to eat too much. So the owner came out and claimed that he never saw this coupon before, which is buzzard. Eventually the owner cut $ 20 off our check but it was a hassle as a whole. I don’t know if there is any misunderstanding between Unilocal and the restaurant but I don’t think I will buy coupon on Unilocal again. Anyways… The food is great. Loved the entrée and sushi. Loved the server.

Much like a previous reviewer said, I really want to like Club Sushi, but it’s difficult. The sushi itself is good(but not great), and the presentation is very good, but it is very expensive when compared with other sushi restaurants in the area. Several of the specialty rolls are $ 16 each, with one roll coming in at a whopping $ 18! Compare that with, say, Ocean Sushi in Liverpool where they have just one specialty roll that’s $ 16, and the others max out at $ 14. Same thing for Sakana-ya, where their most expensive rolls are in the $ 10-$ 12 range, if I recall correctly. The quality isn’t so much higher than those other places that it justifies such high prices. Setting prices aside, the service we’ve received here has been just okay. Both times we’ve arrived it’s taken several minutes for the host/hostess to realize we were even waiting, and then get us a table. Once we’ve been seated, the waitstaff has also been hit-or-miss. They’ve typically been prompt about taking orders, but rarely check in to see if we need drink refills or additional ginger/wasabi. It’s hard to describe, but the waitstaff we’ve dealt with just seem like they’re distracted, or perhaps uninterested. I don’t know if they have too many tables to keep track of, or if they’re doing tables upstairs and downstairs, or what, but I feel like we get better service at chain restaurants than at this local place.(Also, this most recent time we got a weird amount of pressure from the server to fill out the comment card with our name and contact information. Just another strange experience on top of all the others.) Finally, the layout of the restaurant is very odd. Both times we’ve gone, we’ve been stuck up on the little balcony area, which seems fine at first, but it’s narrow there, and a little claustrophobic.(As an aside, if your seating area is so tight that you have to mount a special shelf above the table to hold the soy sauce and the chopsticks, then maybe it’s too narrow to be a proper seating area.) The restaurant seems very big, but also very compartmentalized, with rooms off of the sides, and a bar in the back with a big TV. It feels like the owners haven’t decided what they want the basement to be — it’s not an intimate club setting, it’s not a sports bar, it’s not an upscale restaurant … so it ends up being a weird mix of all of those. Furthermore, the vibe in the place is tough to describe. The first time we went it was totally dead, and at times it was completely silent except for our talking. Very weird. Then the next time we went, it was super loud because there was an over-amplified live singer, and a big party on the floor next to us. Together it was really too loud, which is something the manager should have realized, and taken the initiative to turn down the music. All in all, it’s just inconsistent there. For as much as you have to pay for the food, there’s definitely some areas where they could make improvements. I don’t think we’ll go back unless there are some changes. We’ll stick to Ocean Sushi and Sakana-ya.

I really wanted to like Club Sushi, because it’s the ONLY game in town for sushi, but it just totally underperformed. My boyfriend and I ordered a sushi/sashimi platter and were given a plate of sushi that was missing 2 pieces as noted on the menu. The sashimi was good, but not very substantial. The sushi rolls really missed the mark though — hard and poor tasting. The atmosphere is also a bit weird — really loud live music in a sushi«club.» After having a meal of 22(not 24!) pieces of sushi, two beers, 1⁄3 pour of wine, and two desserts, we were stuck with a bill for over $ 100. I walked out hungry and annoyed. Save yourself the money and get better taste by trekking over to Ichiban in Liverpool.
