Ocean Sushi

Great sushi rolls. Tried the seaweed and squid salad, really tastes! The service was quick and attentive. The surprise sushi roll that was cooked at our table was spicy but interesting.

Bald Asian man that works and seats people is a rude asshole. From the second we walked in he said it was «bad time». And proceeded to argue with us about seating us even though there was more than enough open seats. He lost some major business because we called ahead and he said they were not busy at all.

Food is a 4 star. Service 0.
Food is always great, however; the staff can be quite rude at times which can make your visit a bit uncomfortable. You feel rushed, specially during lunch time. It’s unfortunate that happens because the food is always well prepared and they have quite a big menu. I have been here several times and the waiters continue to be a bit rude (must be a cultural thing).

Showed up just now, 8:30pm on a Sunday (valentine day). Manager does not welcome us, he physically blocked us from entering and said, «no, we’re closed.» We made the 30 minute drive after checking the website for their hours, which said they don’t close until 9pm. Their sign in the door also said they don’t close until 9pm. I told him he should change his hours of operation so people are not inconvenienced by this and his reply was, «when we are done we are done.» I’ve read other reviews that said the food was good, but that the customer service was terrible. Unfortunately, all we will never know is terrible customer service. Will not attempt to come again.

I’m very picky when it comes to sushi since I’m from Boston and I’ve been looking for a good sushi place when I moved out here for grad school and this place DELIVERS! I’ve been here every week since someone recommended it to us, its SO GOOD! Fast service, great rolls, so good! I’ll be here as often as I can afford it, its absolute perfection in a sushi restaurant. It’s up to my standard and I couldn’t be more excited!

Very good food. I had the Honeymoon roll. Like others have said the owner is not out to impress you.

I shared a sashimi dinner for two here at Ocean Sushi a few weeks ago. I can’t say i’ve had Japanese food anywhere else in Syracure, but Ocean Sushi came recommended by a friend.
The restaurant has a «hole in the wall» feel to it. It’s located in a random strip mall. There not much to write home about regarding the inside or outside of the restaurant.
The fish was of good quality. The portions were large and prices were fair. Nitpicking a little, I thought some pieces were cut a little too thickly, causing some pieces to be a little more chewy than normal. The presentation was nice overall.
Service was prompt, but I wouldn’t have expected anything else, since it was a slow Sunday night. Not exactly the friendliest service, but not bad.
I had a decent sashimi meal at Ocean Sushi. It’s most likely one of the better Japanese restaurants in Syracuse. However, i’ve been spoiled by some better Japanese restaurants in other cities and I can only give this place 3.5 stars.

We go here a lot and pretty much have tried all the sushi, it has never failed to impress us! Our kids love the food and the main waiter is always polite and kind. Highly recommend this restaurant! Don’t overlook the dessert, we just tried the red bean ice cream and it was amazing!

Great service! Excellent prices during lunch hours. The sushi is fresh and delicious. They have a variety of choices for rolls. I have been several times and they don’t disappoint.

This review is more about the service that we received rather than the food. The food was good! being from California I have some really high expectations for sushi. The service was HORRIBLE!!! The waiter/​owner took our drink order 10 mins after we had been sitting there. The spicy noodle soup did not specify what type of meat was in the dish. When we realized it was pork (we don’t eat pork because of religious purposes) we asked for chicken. The waiter/​owner loudly expressed how funny it was for us to ask for chicken in a noodle dish. I repeat «ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE CHICKEN IN NOODLE SOUP DISH». I would understand if they simply premade the dish and did not have it in other options but to be so rude about it was completely outrageous. (WE DIDN’T EVEN TOUCH THE SOUP, NOT A SINGLE TASTE) So after about 3 mins we asked the waiter/​owner to take the soup from our table. He decides to charge us for 1 bowl of soup because he did not want to take a loss for it! This was the first time this had ever happened to us. I would understand if we had eaten half of it or even just a little bit of it, but like I mentioned above we didn’t even touch the soup.
never going back again! Rude service! They need more business sense!

Food is really good, no issues with the food, other than overpriced. …Except, can you tell me how many pieces of sushi you get with each?
Now the bad:
–It seemed like I was at an episode of SNL — Samurai Delicatessen. The Manager ran around yelling at the staff in Japanese.
–Is it that hard to deliver napkins /​chopsticks /​silverware /​to the table?

It’s a cute place.
Needs a bit TLC. Tables are a bit sticky; music choices can be better selected.
Temperatures of food are a bit off.
Sushi is ok about it should not taste like fish.
Sadly I have had better.
Box lunch was good.
Overall it’s was an ok ok experience.

Ocean Sushi is excellent sushi (and not-​sushi).
Inside their humble strip location is a small, minimally decorated space, with tables to the left and a chic sushi bar to the right. When my girlfriend and I walked in, we were quickly greeted and seated. The service was as fast and attentive throughout.
The menu is extensive! They serve more than sushi, which is great for couples like us since I’m a huge sushi fan and my girlfriend won’t touch it. While I browsed an extensive menu of classic and specialty rolls, Sarah had her choice of tempura, noodle dishes, and other Japanese dishes that spare the raw fish and seaweed wrapper.
I chose the staple Alaskan roll with salmon and a veggie, and the chef’s special Sunflower Roll, with tuna and vegetable, topped with pulled crab. The cuts of fish were premium — among the best I’ve had. Rather than a flatly spiced mayonnaise dressing, the sauce that accompanied the pulled crab was bold, unapologetically spicy, but light enough to allow the crab taste to come through. Sarah’s Yaki Soba with beef was cooked to perfection, and sparing of grease (atypical of Yaki Soba I’ve had in the past). Overall, the eats were fantastic!
Whether or not you’re into sushi, Ocean Sushi is a great place to get a terrific meal.

Though I’m not a sushi fan, my dear partner in crime is a huge sushi fan. It’s always great to find a good sushi place that has something to offer both of us.
We decided on a whim to check out Ocean Sushi on a Friday night, noting its great Unilocal reviews. When we entered, we were greeted by the friendly staff, who seated us immediately. The atmosphere was decent; it’s in a strip mall in the suburbs, yes, but the sushi bar is nicely decorated.
Our waitress was attentive, helping us fill out the sushi order form and making note of our myriad dietary restrictions with no complaints (no avocado, no egg, please). Their menu for non-​sushi lovers isn’t as extensive as their sushi menu, which was to be expected. There were a few mid-​priced entrees from the kitchen, along with some more reasonably priced noodle dishes and salads. Jared ordered two sushi rolls, and I ordered the Yakisoba with beef. The service was quick and beautifully plated, but not overdone.
Generally, I’m hesitant to order beef at Asian restaurants, because it tends to be either poorly cut, poorly cooked, or so sparse that I can barely tell I ordered meat at all. I can count the good experiences I’ve had with Asian beef at restaurants on one hand. But this one at Ocean Sushi certainly takes the top spot! The meat was juicy with a lovely texture, and there was plenty of it. The portion was nicely sized, which in most cases means I’ll take half home… but I couldn’t stop myself. I devoured the whole thing. We’ll definitely be back here. It’s a great spot if you have both sushi lovers and the sushi-​averse in the house. Reasonably priced, great service, great food. Can’t ask for much more!

This is probably the best sushi that exists in Syracuse!
My husband and I came here on a Friday night around 7pm and we were able to be seated quickly. It’s a small restaurant though, and it would be hard to have large parties here, as most of the tables seat up to 5 or 6 if you really squished. There is also sushi bar seating.
The staff was very friendly and helpful and were quick to bring us our drinks and take our orders. They checked in on us several times.
The menu has a large variety of regular rolls, special rolls, japanese noodle and rice dishes, and some korean entrees too (bibimbap, jabchae, bulgogi), My husband tried the shrimp tempura roll, I had a spider roll, and we split a california roll. All rolls were excellent with fresh ingredients, the right texture and taste of sushi rice, and I was very impressed with my spider roll, as often, the soft shell crab is lacking at other sushi restaurants, but this one was freshly fried! We thought we were going to be hungry after only these rolls, and would have to go home and eat dessert, but surprisingly, we felt satisfied!
Sushi is always a pricier meal, but the prices here are on par with other sushi places around Syracuse and their quality is superior! They also have a lunch menu too which has other specials and combos.
We will definitely be back the next time we are craving sushi :)

I literally created an account just to write this review. This place deserves five stars for so many reasons! Firstly, the staff treats you like royalty… very friendly and attentive. The main server is all smiles at all times and often comes back to the table to tell funny jokes. I’ve been there with my family a few times and we always leave very satisfied. The server even gave my mom a seaweed salad on the house!
Now for the food…
I live in NYC and I’ve eaten at countless sushi places in the city and I can honestly say that this sushi place all the way up in Syracuse has the BEST SUSHI and continues to be my favorite place. They have the freshest handmade rolls that are incredibly unique.
The scallop roll and the jalapeño bombs are TO DIE FOR. All of their other rolls are very impressive too.
My family always orders a FEAST at this place but the wait for our food is never too long. It’s a very small quiet place that can fit maybe 20 people max but there is never a wait probably because this restaurant is very underrated. It is seriously a hidden gem.

We went here on a Friday night around 7:30 for the first time. It’s small when you walk in, smaller than I had thought, maybe 5 – 6 tables to sit at, they have a few pushed together so they could seat more if they pulled them apart. The service was a bit slow and we felt neglected, the owner came over twice but that was it. It was also slow to get our food when we finally ordered.
The food was really good! It was the saving grace, I will be back. We tried the honeymoon roll (our favorite), oh-​no roll, sun day morning and TNT. The rolls were fresh, and delicious.

Hands down the BEST sushi in CNY! the honeymoon, playboy and firecracker rolls are my fav!!! the plum wine, soups and bulgogi are tasty too! new rolls, interesting spin, warmed with flames and fire right at your table. best sushi here!!!

We had a FIVE STAR experience at Ocean sushi for so many reasons:
1) Vast selection on the menu
2) Fresh and decorative display of food
3) Attentive servers
4) Amazing quality of sushi
This is by far my favorite place to get sushi in all of Syracuse. We came here because of the positive reviews online and we were not misled! We ordered a rice wine that was to die for and came in the coolest looking bottle. The quality of their sushi is so far superior than others and its the quality of sushi that can really effect whether or not you’re a sushi person.
They have an extensive menu that could appeal to anyone. We decided to take some risks and ordered sushi with eel and and another with raw salmon and both were scrumptious. I would absolutely recommend this place to others!

This is ALWAYS my go to place for sushi! We drove 45 miles in an ice storm tonight because we had to have it! Hans is always a wonderful host, the sushi the best around and ways very fresh.
There is also an excellent Korean menu and my husband having served in the Army and living in Korea for over a year absolutely loves Korean food — so we are both happy! We suggest the Bulgogi!
