You should take the advice of Joyce C. literally. «Drive slowly, be on the lookout.» I’ve attached a picture to help you, however. This is not your typical apple orchard bake shop. The driveway entrance/exit is only one car width wide. When you enter the bake shop you are actually in their work area. Be careful though, they might just put you to work. My 9 inch apple crumb-top cost $ 11. In the interest of writing this review, I was forced to not wait for my wife to come home from work before I tried the pie. It was very good. The top was nice and crunchy, the apples had both some sweetness and tartness, and the bottom crust was firm. I’d have been interested in trying another of their creations, but they said that my arrival in the afternoon was too late for them to sell me one set aside for delivery, and then replace it. I understand that if you call by 10 am for same day pickup you can be assured of enjoying any of their other popular flavors, e.g., blackberry, cherry, or deep fudge. I should have asked what their hours are while I was there, but an old 2009 article I read had them only open on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Caveat emptor. This brings up the alternative that I, and maybe others, should consider. Mourningkill Farm pies are available at a variety of retail locations. I know that the Niskayuna Co-Op carries them, and I believe Arnold’s Farm Fresh Produce in Galway is another, along with Gade Farm in Guilderland. Now the only remaining question is ala mode, or not!

My favorite place to buy a pie in the entire Capital District. The VERYBERRY with a crumb topping is my favorite… however, I have been known to enjoy the blueberry, Apple, and raspberry just as much. This little gem is tucked away on Charlton Road, drive slowly, be on the lookout, and you will find it.

Bought a blueberry pie. What a disappointment. it just tasted like liquid sugar. there was so much sugar that you couldn’t taste the blueberry and there was no acidity to balance the sweetness. I wonder if this was an oops, because there was so much sugar that the pie texture had crystals in it — so gross. Really disappointed.

My favorite pies of the capital district area. Many places will sell a «fresh-baked»(but purchased frozen) pie. I believe these are baked and delivered fresh. I am sad today, because they didn’t have the Tues delivery at the Co-op.

You may have trouble trying to do a search for Mourningkill Farm. Their business is listed in several Yellow Page type websites as Morningkill Farm and Bait Shop. But their sign out front is Mourningkill(with the«u»), and while they may sell bait, it was not immediately obvious nor does it appear to be significant. This place is really about apples and their bakery. In the fall, they sell several types of apples in bags starting at ½ peck and going up from there. You can get 1sts or 2nds. The apple quality even for the 2nds is quite good, and the prices are very reasonable. The bakery is open year round. The pies are delicious; 9″ apple pies run in the neighborhood of $ 12. They sell other goods in the bakery at other times of the year. My mom loves their blueberry pound cake, though that is probably a summer item.
