As predicted, this place is gone. I blame the company for not making sure that their out-of-state franchises conformed to the same standards as the more«original» locations in Dallas. This place was a disaster in so many ways. I had high hopes.

My coworkers and I usually order a whole slab to feed the three of us and it’s quite filling. My only complaint is that it’s dry. Don’t get me wrong, the meat falls off the bone and is very tender, but the sauce is dried up on top as if it has been sitting there for quite a while. Maybe it was due to the time lapse from ordering to actually eating it… but Dickeys is a hit or miss for me. I really do enjoy their ribs though, maybe I should try actually eating in the restaurant?

Picked some of this up for dinner and I have to say that it wasn’t bad. I had the large bake potato with chicken and it was very good. I also ordered the pork and brisket and it was very tender. So if your in the mood for bar b que and don’t want to spend hours grilling this is not a bad place to go. The sides were pretty tasty too. And the price was fair.

Ms. T and I decided to try this Texas based chain for some quick BBQ. You have to understand this for what it is. It is commercial, mass appeal BBQ and is probably as good as you would expect. Ms. T had the smoked turkey and I had a combo platter of pork ribs, sliced brisket and pulled pork. The place smells more smoky than the meat actually tastes. Starting from best to least on my platter, the ribs are not bad. These are BBQ ribs, not smoked ribs. They were juicy and came clean off the bone, with a fairly standard rub. Smoke was very light. If I returned, this is what I would order. The pulled pork was next best and should be eaten in a sandwich with slaw and sauce, which would be tolerable. It was not dry, dry, but was on the edge. I prefer meat that can be enjoyed without drowning it in sauce and this pork needs some sauce. Finally, for a Texas based chain, the brisket was not up to par. St. Louis is not exactly a mecca for brisket so this may be as good as you find. It was well done, as it should be, making it tender, but it was dry and short on flavor, including smoke and spice rub. Actually is just roast beef(albeit brisket). Again, this would make a tolerable sandwich with some sauce, but great brisket should stand on it’s own. All of these meats just lack great flavor. Their sauce is decent. It is a balance of sweet and tangy, which is good. It lacked heat. It it is not the extremely sweet sauce that you find in the Kansas City area in particular. Ms. T’s turkey was a kind of pressed turkey roll. It tasted OK and was juicy, but the texture is spongy. Sides are pretty mass produced; the slaw is a sweet, creamy style. It was OK except for the occasional raw onion hunk that I would prefer to avoid. The dilled potato salad tasted OK, except that it had four times too much dressing.(If you want dilled potato salad, go to Louisana Café). The corn bread is too sweet and very much like cake, much too soft and gooey. Ms. T had fried okra which was apparently OK, not remarkable. This place is 1−½ stars, I rounded up to 2 which is generous. It is not to be avoided, but is not worth driving far. If you have other BBQ close by, it can’t be worth the drive to Dickey’s. I can’t say I won’t go back but it is not close to home so I can’t say I will either. If I’m driving by and need lunch, OK.

Bar-b-que, or however you choose to spell it, should not be done in a fast food setting. I have now eating at Dickey’s Barbeque Pit twice and do not believe that I will chance a third visit. I’ve tried their pulled pork, ribs, and brisket. The ribs were okay, falling off the bone, but did not have me jumping out of my seat. The pulled pork is bland and as far as I am concerned tastes like its never been smoked. I know it has by the pink smoke ring that is present on the meat. The brisket was dry. All meats require you to add one of Dickey’s BBQ Pit’s sauces. I think there are at least three: hot, traditional and sweet. All have a vinegar base which is overpowering. Kids eat free on Wednesday and Sunday. Soft-serve ice cream is free wit h your meal as are large deli style pickles. Dickey’s will do in a pinch, but I would rather wait to eat at Barney’s BBQ, also on Manchester, during the warm summer months.

founded in 1941, lubbock, tx. «slow cooked. served fast»… that’s their tag line. i got my carry-out in about 6 minutes. i wanted to see how they stack up against bandana’s & richard’s ribs. not bad. my husband thinks their ribs ace bandana’s — and ‘they’re in a different category from richard’s ribs’… we each got rib plates with 2 sides. i got fried okra & creamy cole slaw; he got mac & cheese(which wasn’t mac — it was shell pasta), and creamy cole slaw. we both got cornbread. the ribs were very good — tender & meaty. the sauce was spicey but not hot, with a hint of vinegar. we threw the mac & cheese out(lame cheese sauce). the fried okra was great. the slaw was good. the side portions are large. the cornbread was the best i’ve had for awhile… they’re in the old wendy’s, corner of mason rd. & manchester.
