Awesome event space that used to be a church. It is a very cute place that has a great, rustic vibe.

I’ve been to several shows here– Neutral Milk Hotel, Beach House, Explosions in the Sky, Jeff Mangum… I’ve never been disappointed with the sound. Actually the sound here is better than some of the clubs that I’ve been to. The space has a lot of character and there is not a bad seat. It can get hot here during sold out shows but that’s a minor inconvenience. Big props to the people who book the events at this venue. Wish more bands play here!

First off, I would like to point out that the 2640 is NOT a music venue. Yes, bands play from time to time, but it is actually a community spot where many free events take place. They have everything from lectures, organization and neighborhood meetings, and even craft shows. Sure it gets hot. It is an abandoned church. But, what do you expect from an abandoned meeting place? Air conditioning? A parking lot? A full bar?

Amazing venue, second only to Ottobar on the Baltimore concert scene. I’ve seen Explosions in the Sky, Wye Oak, and Beach House here. All great shows. Admittedly, it gets hot. But it’s absolutely worth it!

Oh goodness I just can’t stand to see 2640 have only one star. Yes it does get disgracefully hot during sold-out shows but it’s such a gorgeous space! And I’ve never had a complaint about the acoustics. Sure it gets a little echoey but not in a way that detracts from the music, in my opinion. They also deserve a massive shout-out for hosting such a wide range of eclectic events. From big-indie-name shows(Jeff Mangum!) to craft fairs to pop up shops to skillshares to conferences they are really a bedrock of Baltimore’s creative community. In short, I love 2640.

2640 is a show venue inside St. John’s United Methodist Church, run by the bitter neighborhood communists of Red Emma’s Coffee. The space is really, really bad. REALLYBAD. First, no air conditioning. At all. Forget it. Pack 100 people in there and you will be dying rather quickly. Same goes for heat. There are some ceiling fans… about 100 feet above you. and they’re basically useless. Lots of people were just leaving during the show b/c of the heat. Second, the sound is HORRIBLE because the bands play in the altar area which is raised and side inside a cavern. So it’s just a cacophony coming out at you. I saw Explosions in the Sky. The band was awesome. The sound was terrible. The bar is cash only, and bottled water is only $ 1 per bottle. They do provide ear plugs which is a good thing. I left a few minutes early b/c of the heat and there were a ton of people outside listening since it was way cooler out there than inside. If there’s a show to see there, AVOID. Stand outside and listen through the doorways and windows. NOPARKING! You must park on the street, which for the most part is free, but seriously get there early if you have to park.
