I came in not having the highest expectations as its a dive bar. But let me tell you the bartenders were great, kind, and fast. The pizza was fantastic and I didn’t even think I liked deep dish pizza. Definitely the best pizza in locust point.

If you love whiskey/scotch, you will love this bar. They have dozens of choices. I personally love the Whistle Pig. I’ve had the pizza, which was yummy but not my favorite. The crust is thick and fluffy. The house salad dressing is delicious though! I believe it is a secret recipe.

Love the pizza here. I’m pretty sure I can eat it every day so living right around the corner doesn’t help. It’s not a traditional New York pie, more of a buttery thicker crust. Kind of reminds me of a way better old school Pizza Hut crust. Personally, I think the pizza here overshadows everything else on the menu Word of advice, don’t call ahead. I haven’t had much luck with them answering… Doesn’t mean they’re closed though!

Federal Hill is definitely growing on me. There are quite a few spots that I would be happy to call my neighborhood bar. Barfly’s is one. It could be yours too, and should be if you like whiskey; they have about 170 or so different types, and the number keeps growing. I snagged a few seats at the bar, a couple of beers and ordered pizzas while having a nice chat with some folks sitting by the corner and the bartender — Mike. He is fantastic at his job, certainly knows his whiskeys and manages to keep service running smoothly as the only one there. The hot and spicy pizza is exactly as promised. Barfly’s pizza is your deep dish style — similar to Matthew’s. Not always my go to, but it was chilly and rainy, so it was the perfect pie. This one is loaded with toppings — red sauce with pepperoni and onions. The spicy part comes from the hot peppers and pepperoncinis. I like that they use a blend cheeses — parmesan & mozzarella — which balances the flavors. Since I don’t love the red sauce on pizzas, I also went with a Spinach White Pie. The white sauce is a little garlicky and creamy, and the pizza was topped with spinach, fresh garlic, onion and a blend of the same cheeses plus feta. It usually comes with mushrooms, but they were out of those, so we got to add whatever topping we wanted — we went with pepperoni. All the pizzas come with their«special sauce» which I think is kind of like a ceased with some extra garlic and maybe some extra parm, since it is rather thick.

Great for the pizza, and friendly local place to hang to watch a game. I also quite like the fact that they have board games you can grab and play over some food or drinks. The other stuff is pretty average from what I saw, didn’t sample much else.

Another pizza place to add to the books! Very similar crust(thick and chewy) to Mathews in Fell’s, which I quite enjoy as long as I’m in the mood! There were a lot of different options for specialty pizzas. The pizzas itself are a little larger than a personal size… if you’re super hungry you may be able to finish one, but if there is another food can definitely be split. Next time I’d love to eat in and enjoy the atmosphere of the bar. Looks like a fun and lively place!

After realizing that everyone else in the house had plans for Labor Day, hubby and I decided to spend the day hiking and then end our evening with a pizza from Matthews and were both looking forward to it until we discovered they were closed for the holiday. No biggie, we love trying new places and I had read on Unilocal that Barfly’s offered a similar style pizza and they had a lot of great reviews so, crisis averted, we headed there for dinner. There were quite a few people sitting at the bar when we arrived but the gentleman behind the bar who we later learned was Mike, warmly welcomed us and brought menus right over to our table. After a quick look at the menu we decided on Roasted Old Bay Wings and Meat Pizza Pie with ricotta on me half. When hubby ordered the wings he asked Mike if he could just have the«flat» wings and Mike obliged. Within about 10 minutes our wings arrived hot and perfectly seasoned with Old Bay and accompanied by what tasted like a homemade blue cheese that was delicious and did I mention how large the wings were. About 5 minutes after finished the wings our pizza arrived, perfectly timed and it looked as amazing as it tasted. The crust was light and crispy and it was really loaded with pepperoni, sausage, meatballs and Prosciutto, the meats completely covered the pizza and there was just the right amount of ricotta to still allow the star of the pizza, the meats, to shine. It didn’t take long for hubby to declare that this pizza was the best he’d ever had and we’d definitely be coming back. The pizzas are definitely a better deal here, only $ 1 extra for toppings and they don’t charge 2% more if you pay with credit card like Matthews does and while I didn’t try the salad this time I’ve heard they have their own salad dressing that is equally as awesome. Now if they could only add a spinach salad with homemade, tangy honey mustard dressing, red onions, grapes and candied walnuts to the menu I’d never need to go anywhere else.

I can’t say enough good things about the owner or his staff. I love going to Barfly’s. I always feel so welcomed and appreciated. Mike has really changed his bar feeling around this past year. He has decided to become a premier whiskey bar in the area. If I remember correctly he has almost 175 different whiskey labels. Even some of the rarer Japanese varieties. Finally, it is the best pizza in town.

Basically the Matthew’s of Fed Hill — same food but with the Fed Hill bar feel. Great for happy hour or food if you don’t feel like walking to Cross Street.

Nice crispy crust on their handmade pizzas. Don’t let the«size» fool you, they are big enough for two. Fresh ingredients, good toppings. This place makes solid pizzas and has a great beer selection from what I saw. The bartender was amazing, as he handled everyone seated at the bar and at least 5 other tables that all were eating singlehandedly. Great bar. Seemed like everyone knew each other there and was a good locals hang out.

I’ve been coming here for years. They treat ya right and always offer very appropriate drink suggestions. Clearly, the pizza and dressing are amazing. But the chill atmosphere and outstanding staff make this more than just a place to stop for ten minutes. Nice low key lighting, good throwback music, and relevant games on the television all make for a night that can keep rolling until close. I enjoy Barflys very much. One can’t ask for much more.

Very mixed feelings about this place. First of all, the pizza is delicious. It’s essentially the same pizza that you can get at Matthew’s or Our House, great deep dish crust. The chicken club pizza was especially great. Also, the bartender was friendly and helped us choose some new beers to try. Now, the problems. The service was a little slow, and it wasn’t very busy in there. But the biggest issue was the food that ISN’T the pizza. We ordered 2 appetizers, the caprese skewers and the garlic bread. The skewers weren’t anything special, pretty much just cherry tomatoes and the small balls of mozzarella you can buy at Harris Teeter, on a skewer with a little balsamic. But the garlic bread was one of the worst appetizers/dishes I’ve ever had at a restaurant. It was literally a(non-toasted) sub roll, served open, with sliced cheese melted on it and a little garlic. I hate to send back a dish, but I came pretty close, because it was ridiculous. Maybe the least effort I’ve seen put into a dish when dining out. Bottom line, the pizza is very good, and stick to that half of the menu like your life depended on it.

I love everything about Barfly’s. We live right around the corner and this has become our go to neighborhood bar. Mike, the owner, is awesome and we’ve become friends with him and his other great bartenders(Doug, Rory, Zack…) just from visiting so often and chatting while we sit at the bar. The pizza, especially the crust, is unbeatable(try dipping in their homemade dressing too). And last but certainly not least, they always have great craft beer on tap, which they rotate often! If you haven’t been yet, you’re missing out!

We were excited to try this page after moving to Locust Point and hearing that they use the same pizza crust recipes as Our House and Matthews. However, the similarities end there. Service was very friendly but slow. They have a unique draft beer selection, and the bartender seemed happy to make recommendations. We were pretty hungry so we ordered garlic bread and Caprese skewers for appetizers, plus the chicken club and shrimp fra diavolo pizzas. Half an hour after we ordered our food, our appetizers came out and we couldn’t believe they took so long. The garlic bread was basically a sandwich roll cut in half and covered with garlic powder and a slice of cheese. I could have made better garlic bread at home in half the time. The caprese was ok but nothing special, and they served it on basil leaves as garnish so you didn’t really get the basil flavor. Our pizzas awkwardly came out 2 minutes later, but they were way better than the appetizers. The chicken club was especially good. I’d come back here for pizza only if I was hungry and Our House was closed, but I’d be wary to try anything else.

Loud, live music greeted my boyfriend and I when we came here with our two friends who live in the neighborhood. Under our friends’ recommendation, we ordered the spinach pizza pie. Bf and I shared the cold cut Italian sandwich. Food was good, and I thought it was nice how the bartenders checked in on us, especially since we were sitting at the bar. I was a little annoyed that after a glass previously filled with Sprite was empty, it was refilled with water. FYI, it seems like a place where the locals frequent.
