I am fairly new to MD and live in Hyattsville. I ended up here because no stylist in my neighborhood ever got back to me. It’s a black salon, found out about it through youtube and I was trying to set an appt with Robbie, but he no longer works there. Customer service: it was good. I called, left a message and I also sent a message through their website. Someone returned my call the next day and i was able to book an appt that same week. The salon: is cute I esp like the color scheme and the word funk graffiti’d on the wall. I like how they were playing my boo J. Cole for music too. Stylist: Lanyce Style: silk press n cut. I’m happy with it Price: $ 100 Experience: average Location: straight Parking: street a B for you funk salon just because I gave both legs and an arm for this style. But everywhere out here is expensive. I’d go back just because I don’t have anywhere else to go.

I heard about the salon through Living Social and decided to give it a try since the website looked interesting and I could walk there. The«stylist» Leana rudely told me come back 45 minutes after my appointment. My schedule is very busy, and that was the only day I had to go, so I came back. After a brief consultation, she began doing my highlights at the shampoo bowl. I couldn’t even lean back and was very uncomfortable. After the color, she combed my hair to the side and did not let me see the mirror until she had successfully hidden her mistakes. I was so generally uncomfortable that I didn’t even wait for her to dry it. I now have a $ 300+ color correction appointment elsewhere. This is an African American salon, but I don’t recommend it to anyone.

I scheduled an appointment with Nae(which never showed up). I took a picture of the color that I desired. Shortly after I arrived at the salon, Tierra began to prep my hair for the stylist(well, that’s what I thought she was doing). Unbeknownst to me, Tierra(her unlicensed assistant) performed the entire color service. I neither made aware that Nae was unavailable nor provided the opportunity to make another appointment with Nae or have another stylist perform the service(it is my understanding that the cosmetology board prohibits technicians/assistants from performing certain chemical services). While Tierra was very nice, I was not pleased with the color. After having the opportunity to look at the color in better lighting, I noticed that there are hard lines in my hair due to the color not being blended well and it was not the desired color. I definitely didn’t receive the quality hair service or customer service for the pricey cost. Totally unprofessional…

I consider myself to be fairly easy-going about hair, so I chose this livingsocial deal($ 65) to cut down costs on a cut/color as I prepare for a friend’s wedding. I was hesitant after reading one review on another site that said they were charged well beyond what was included in the voucher– and when I originally called I asked what was included and specified I would not like anything else done beyond that. The staff is very friendly and the facilities are well stocked and decorated. My major complaint is overall poor communication. The whole process was a little haphazard. The stylist did not ask me what I’d like to do for my haircut, just began cutting… and spent all of 10 minutes on the cut. They did a decent job on the color, though they did have to do it twice. She blew out my hair without asking and then charged me an additional $ 40 for this service. I feel this is inappropriate, and is not specified on the livingsocial deal. Had she discussed this with me ahead of time, I would’ve asked her not to do this, as I was trying to save money. My cut and color ended up being $ 110($ 5 tip, I’m not a monster) all said and done, but if they would like to attract more clientele, I do encourage the business to improve their communication and professionalism. The prices are a little outrageous for what you get in terms of service.
