Very friendly staff and reasonable prices. Menu has a wide variety of choices, mainly deli-style fare. Everything I’ve had here has been good. Lines here get long but the staff handles it well. Can’t go wrong with this place.

Great little bistro in Baltimore. Chicken salad sandwich on fresh multi grain bread with butternut squash soup. Prices are fair and they also have sweets and coffee/expresso. White chocolate macadamia cookies are delicious. Nice spot for lunch if close by the court house\ stuck with jury duty. 5 star quick lunch\breakfast spot 4 stars because latte wasn’t precision engineered. The coffe was good.

This is one of my frequent breakfast places before work. It has a nice atmosphere and the staff is very friendly and personable. I like their breakfast sandwiches, they have good options and it always comes out hot and fresh. The coffee is good, and they rotate flavors out every day. It used to be out regular daily coffee shop until my company moved buildings. Haven’t been here much for lunch, but I’ve never heard a complaint, except for it being busy, which is good.

In the mornings they offer bagels, breakfast sandwiches, muffins, coffee, etc. Muffins and bagels have always been pretty good. They put an overly generous amount of cream cheese on the bagel, and I usually have to remove some of it. I wasn’t a huge fan of the breakfast sandwich I got, but it wasn’t bad. The reason for the dock in one star is because I’m not a fan of their regular coffee; it tastes a little burnt. I have recently started getting the caramel cream coffee, and that is pretty good. Some of my favorite lunch sandwiches are the Caroline, Thirty Third, and the Read Street. Also, the corned beef is pretty good. They give you a pickle slice in a little baggie when you order a full sandwich. Its a nice salty treat! They also have really good soups there. Their split pea and tomato feta basil soup is delicious! It gets really busy at noon, and ebbs and flows throughout lunch time. Generally, they are pretty good at moving the crowds through as quickly as they can.

Decent lunch, a bit expensive. Got their«Brooklyn» sandwich and Red Pepper and Gouda soup with a soda, $ 15. They were unable to make it into a lettuce wrap, which is lame, but the meat was good, and the soup was on point. Interestingly enough, I was there at noon on Monday and I was able to find a table really quickly. I wonder if their coffee is good? I should have bought a cup!

I used to come to this place as a kid when my dad worked in Schaffer Tower and I was surprised and excited to find out that it was still there after all these years! I absolutely love their food and I love it so much that I’ve brought one of my close friends here and he completely fell in love with it! Now that I know it’s still here, I’ll definitely be returning more often

Java Joe’s is a great spot for a quick lunch! This place is really crowded and the lines can get pretty long, but there must be a reason the people keep coming back for more. The seats were all pretty full but looks like most people grab and go. Came with my coworkers and I was pretty impressed with the choices. I got the Charles with turkey, avocado, sprouts, muenster cheese and honey mustard on sunflower bread. The sunflower bread was delicious and really earthy tasting. I wish I had gotten mine toasted which I didn’t know was an option until they asked my coworker(not sure why I wasn’t given the choice). The turkey was piled high and it was kind of messy to eat but I enjoyed the sandwich a lot. They also gave a free pickle slice. I’ll definitely be coming back for cheap, but tasty filling sandwiches!

This might have been the worst coffee, food and tea I have gotten at a breakfast place. The bagel was decent but I asked for avocado on my sandwich(advertised as avocado) and got this green paste that I am assuming is some kind of processed guacamole. Both my iced tea and coffee tasted like they came from a gas station in the middle of Kansas.

Good coffee. Went for lunch and grabbed a espresso blast frappé with it and it was really good. Sandwiches are ok, not the best but they get the job done. Make sure you keep an eye out behind the counter for your coffee, they often forget to make it when it’s busy.

I’ve been going to Java Joe’s for a long while so its clear that its a good go to spot for me. On that note I also admit that their coffee is pretty much ok to me. Its good really, just not as good as their sandwiches. I love their fresh, handcrafted, baltimore themed sandwiches. I even have fun picking them and might try them all one day. So far I love the Charles and the Abbey. They also serve my favorite chips(Dirty Potato Chips). They do a lot of other food and drinks good.

Tried this place for the first time today. You can get the sandwiches whole or half, which is a nice option. I had the Charles, and the whole sandwich was pretty large. The menu is online, which I thought was great for ordering as a group or if you’re running down to quickly grab lunch. The staff was friendly, and pretty quick — the sandwiches came out fast and were well made. I thought the sandwiches were reasonably priced, and would come back to try some other offerings.

Best muffins ever. Sandwiches are okay, grab some salt & pepper, especially for the breakfast ones. I only ever tried the soup once & I was not a fan. However, those muffins are killer & I’m seriously addicted. I get one everytime I go in there.

Very conveniently located and therefore packed to the gills by lunchtime, and, like the reviews say, definitely not coffee oriented! However, the variety of sandwiches can’t be beat and they’re all fairly high quality, with plenty of veg options. Mean staff, but I can hardly blame them with such a huge lunch rush!

Meh. I went here a few weeks ago for the first time after hearing people talk about it in my work building’s elevator. I first went there to grab some coffee, logically thinking that a place called Java Joes would specialize in good brew. Nope. Tried a basic coffee and it was no better than Starbucks. Kind of watery and didn’t have any kick. So I went back a few days later to get a sandwich after I realized the focus seemed to be on their lunch menu. I ordered the California pita with turkey, hummus, sprouts, tomato, and balsamic dressing. It was ok but not really memorable. Then I tried giving Java Joes one more chance, thinking the third time might be the charm. I ordered a bowl of lobster bisque soup with a side of bread. It was weird and hardly had any meat in it. Ugh. Maybe I have had bad luck with my pick of menu items? I dunno. I guess I can see why it’s a popular lunch destination, though. It’s close to a lot of businesses/the metro, the service is quick, and the employees are friendly. And they offer options where you can buy just half a sandwich(kind of like Subway) which is nice. Unless I were in a neighboring building, though, I don’t think I’d walk the few blocks to go to it again.

For being called Java Joes, it doesn’t seem like the focus is directed towards coffee. Very cute inside. Tables are clean and there are many. A few tables outside for you to sit as watch the hustle and bustle of those going and coming. When I walked in, I excepted to see a chalkboard menu with a long list of brewed coffees and cappuccinos. Smh. That was not the case. They had a hanging sign that was plastic that had three coffee options on it. The menu was very difficult to find as well. Online, they mentioned breakfast choices and I couldn’t find those choices in the store. Finally found the paper menu and ordered. I went with the hazelnut coffee and a sausage egg and cheese sandwich. Coffee was really watered down and the sandwich was greasy. Good, but greasy. Biggest thing was the name of the place. I had a different expectation. Not a high one, just different.

Gotta say, I love Java Joe’s. My job takes me to that area of Baltimore quite often, and it is part of my usual routine to hole up at this little coffee shop, prepare for the day, and catch up with the regular staff. The main attraction to this spot are the sandwiches! Truly fabulous, tasty, and — best of all — unique. There are way too many here to describe, but Java’s will satisfy every appetite across the spectrum(including vegetarian options). Everything is fresh and made to order, which guarantees product quality and a return visit! One note: this place does get crowded around lunch time so you might want to plan to arrive before noon in order to get a table. Java’s does, of course, also package sandwiches, salads, and soups to go(complete with dill pickle spear) so don’t fret if it’s a bit busy for your taste. You’ll just have to find a place off site to enjoy your delicious little lunch.

So I finally realized today that the sandwiches at Java Joe’s have a Baltimore theme.(smacks self in forehead«Duh!») Maybe I should have read Kit’s review for a clue. There are a lot of lunch places available in city center and they tend to start to blur together. However, the sandwiches at Java Joe’s are made with fresh, tasty ingredients and help me control my cravings when I would rather buy a slice of pizza. I really like the Charles which comes with baked turkey, avocado spread, sprouts, lettuce, and tomato on sunflower bread. I always was a sucker for sprouts. The cupcakes are pretty tasty, too. Thereby negating the sprouts… oh well…

Q: How does one traverse Baltimore without leaving one’s chair? A: By lunching at Java Joe’s. Several hearty sammiches($ 5.50 whole/$ 3.50 half) such as the Saratoga, Camden, Liberty, Redwood, the 33rd, and the Charles are named for Baltimore City streets. Or take in the whole of the City by biting into the Schaefer named for Baltimore’s iconic mayor celebrated as a Cali-style tortilla(?) served cold. The Eutaw was nicely stacked with ham & turkey dressed with mayo and red peppers served hot on multi-grain bread. Nice enough, but it’s lean bacon was itty bitty on my sammich. The tuna fish of the Thames was tasty with a thick slice of Muenster, slivers of tomato, and leaf lettuce on sun flower bread. Happily the meat/bread ratio on each sammich was as the Lawd intended: more meat than bread.(Lookin’ at you, Potbelly.) I expected more punch of flavor from my frosty Peanut Butter Mocha Frappé($ 3.77). Mild hints of PB& mocha carried. Conversely, the pulpy Mango Smoothie($ 3.77) was bolder. Both refreshingly brain freeze frigid easing excruciatingly hot downtown Baltimore August afternoons. The happy-go-lucky young staff made their tedious job fun with upbeat attitudes and brisk service. Does lunching here excite me? No «wow» factor found. But it certainly satisfies.
