I went to this spot based on the reviews of the Bulgogi sub and I’m happy to say that the reviews were spot on. It a tasty messy goodness that I was pleased to find. As long as I can continue to find a parking space I’ll be stopping through frequently lol

The owners are a super cute Korean couple. Prices are reasonable here and they have a Korean fusion theme going on. I ordered the Bibimbap because they seemed to be authentic and this is one of my fave Korean dishes, but it just fell short. The veggies they used were not the authentic kind you would find in a bibimbap — HUGE chunks of onions, bell peppers, carrots, mushrooms, which I have never had in a bowl since everything is usually shredded/julienned very finely, and no kimchi of any kind! The meat portion was super skimpy which was disappointing. It was mainly just a big bowl of rice, which is not what I paid for. Maybe their fusion dishes are better, but I think they could seriously work on this dish. I probably won’t come back though, to be honest.

Awesome Mt Vernon institution. Koreanified carryout(kimchi egg and cheese sandwiches, sub with a side of dumplings, bulgogi quesadilla, etc). The food is fast, the menu is long, and everything I’ve had there is very satisfying.

I love coming to Joanne’s! They are such wonderful and pleasant people. I love their bulgogi! They always urge me to try their new dishes with bulgogi because they know I like it so much. I highly recommend trying it if you go. It truly is a wonderful place to eat :-)

Neat little maw and Paw grill that serves breakfast lunch. Has an menu of burgers and breakfast sandwiches but what should not be missed are their Korean features. Bulgogi… in platter, burrito, sub or quesadilla form. Kimchi is great. Waffles, wings etc. Worth a try really. The shop is old… not fancy but good care with the food.

The bulgogi sub with kimchi is the real deal. Would highly recommend eating it onsite as it can get messy en route to its destination although the soggy bread seemed to be an unexpected delight!

The reviews had me at «bulgogi». The single«$» never hurts either. «Pop» took my order, and«Mom» cooked it up. If you’re taking it to go, ask for double napkins or snag extra on your way out. You’ll use half as tissues because of the spice!

Wanted a quick lunch, have walked by dozens of times without going in. Glad I stopped today. Ended up ordering from the breakfast all day menu — omelet with toast and home fries. Tasty and affordable, will stop in again.

I frequently order either their bulgogi(bulkoki?) burger or veggie burger. With fries and a drink, it’s possibly the best lunch in midtown at under $ 10. And the owners are the nicest people I’ve ever met. Their veggie burgers are a little crumbly and weird-looking, but that’s because they are HOMEMADE. They taste 10x better than any other veggie burger in that area. I’m serious. The bulgogi… is… sublime. It is sweet and savory and about ten other adjectives. Get the bulgogi burger or sub.

Be forewarned, this is not the most savory looking place! We almost left before we even ordered. Maybe being adjacent to a liquor store is not the best idea. I would recommend carrying out. Order anything bulgogi! The burger, the sub, and especially the platter. Both steak and chicken are great. The intense flavor of the food and the extremely polite owners are the reasons I come back. Kimchi is nice and spicy! I love the sticky rice. Would get 4.5 stars if that were an option.

Great mom and pop shop. Good chicken, bulkoki, and fries. All in all, I recommend it.

This place has the only soggy bread that I will eat– and that’s only because it’s soaked with delicious bulkoki marinade: like a sweet, beefy, a little spicy sauce that’s more fun than teriyaki. So I’ve been here a few times. The location is on Preston, just off Charles on the opposite side of the street from Starbucks and two shop fronts down from Nino’s pizza. I’m only giving all that detail because I think they would get more foot traffic if they were in a more obvious location! The bulkoki sub is MINDBLOWING: Soft sub roll, tender marinated beef, spicy hots and tomatoes, green peppers, onions(well I left those off), mayonnaise or butter on the bread(it almost tasted like both. Like buttery mayo??), and american cheese. Really affordable at 6.99 so cheaper than Chipotle but more expensive than Subway. Also, I one time got this as a surprise lunch for my boyfriend and he was amazed. He’s a pretty picky eater and has conventional tastes– pizza, steak, etc so it’s hard to find something that will make his eye widen and his mouth salivate, but the first time he bit into the bulkoki sub– he said, WOW tell me again WHEREISTHISPLACE?! And then he forced me to show him exactly where the place was– using various condiments on our dining room table as placeholders for a map. He then thanked me like twenty times for getting him lunch so if the sub is good enough to impact him in that way, it’s definitely worth it for you to try! We’ve also tried the bulkoki burger, which is not as impressive– it’s a burger patty soaked in the bulkoki marinade but the patty gets too soft. The fries are decent, but I wouldn’t get them again. They were pretty standard fries that could or could not be frozen. The owners are an adorable asian family(no I’m not just saying that because I’m biased) but they are absurdly friendly. Very eager to offer suggestions and as soon as you walk in, they will welcome you loudly. I like feeling welcomed! They also have a large selection of various sodas and also a counter full of snacks. I noticed that people waiting for the bus would swing by for a snack so it’s like a mini convenience store as well. Really great family owned spot that will satisfy your lunch craving!

Bulkoki sub is absolutely delicious. Sauce is messy and meat is salty, but is a great sandwich. Should have skipped the fries. They were bland crinkle cut, tasted store bought.

I think without a recommendation I would probably never have visited this spot, but i’m SOOOOO glad I did! I read the Unilocal reviews before I walked over and was confused when I went in and saw bulkoki instead of bulgogi… i have no idea what the difference of spelling is about? Of course i ordered the sub and it was better than I imagined. A) I hate teriyaki sauce and B) I hate american cheese… however, this sub sammich is the best thing I’ve ever had! I can’t even think of proper words to tell you how much I loved it! I don’t think I would have enjoyed takeout because I’m not a fan of soggy bread either, but who knows, maybe I would have loved *their* soggy bread. :) I just looked at in amazement because of all the different flavors! Can’t wait to have another one! Also, the husband and wife are the nicest people and have wonderful customer service. She was genuinely happy I loved my lunch.

(5÷8÷2014) Divey, somewhat unclean, but totally worth it for the Bulgogi Sub. Love the carry-out fusion of salty(a little too) soy-marinated, flat-top griddled meat on a chewy sub roll with American cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomato and hots. Def get a side of kim chi and stuff it into your sub. Delish! Salty, pungent, drippy, gooey. Have heard breakfast is just so-so(how do you not have great hash browns?).

Overview: Great hole in the wall/mom and pop shop. Pros: The bulgogi sub was amazing, just get it. It was pretty inexpensive too. Cons: No bathroom sorta? Advice: Bulgogi Sub, go and get it.

Korean mom and pop joint off charles. The effusive Unilocal reviews drew me in. The super nice lady at the counter recommended the bulgogi sub so I got it. Place is pretty clean and is set up like a small fast food restaurant. Typical diverse menu with some korean fusion items on there. Similar to Nina’s a couple blocks down. Bulgogi sub(6.99) — bread was soaked through with sauce so it was messy. Bulgogi in middle with onions, cheese, mayo, peppers. Ingredients weren’t the freshest but it didn’t taste bad. Overall, don’t know how I feel about this place. It’s a block from Stang and the food quality at Stang is completely on another level. I guess this is a nice place to grab a quick bite when you’re in a rush, but the thing I’ll remember most about this place is House of Cards filmed a scene in front of this joint.

I would’ve never thought to eat here cause it looks like a hole in a wall but after seeing the rave reviews, I thought I’d give it a try. I ordered the Bulgogi burger and its seriously the best burger of my life. There was cheese, lettuce, onions, peppers, tomato, sauce, Bulgogi and a hamburger patty. The only regret I have is not adding kimchi, but next time! I’m trying the Bulgogi sub for sure, it’s incredible how great the food is and it’s budget friendly! This place is such a gem in mount vernon.

What can I say? I LOVELOVELOVE this place, I eat here at least once a week. The owners, John and Joanne are some of the nicest and warmest people I have ever met. They have a great sense of humor and always greet me with such joy, I feel like a mini-party goes off whenever I go. I’ve had a few breakfast sandwiches(turkey bacon/bacon/sausage with egg over easy and cheese on bagel or toast) and they are always delicious. Getting an egg over easy can be tough, but it’s always perfectly runny and delicious. If I could eat a breakfast sandwich everyday, it would be from Joanne’s. The BESTTHINGEVER is the BULGOGISUB. HOLYCRAPITISSOGOOD. I can’t EMPHASIZETHISENOUGH. GETTHEBULGOGISUB. My boyfriend and I try to eat this at least once a week. It’s a bit pricey for a deli,(about $ 16 for both of us) but it’s worth every penny. This is hands down, one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life. I mean it. It’s life alteringly good. The meat is cooked perfectly and it’s juicy and sweet and all of the veggies are the prefect bite-size and add that perfect amount of savoriness. When the bread gets soggy from all of the juices, it’s actually a good thing and is one of my favorite little«extras». I always order mine without the hots, because I’m sensitive to that type of food, but my boyfriend also gets the hots on it and LOVES it. I’m the only person I know that doesn’t get hots on it. Either way, you will like it. GOHERE. GETTHEBULGOGI. CHOWANDENJOY!
