We came to Sascha’s for lunch while visiting the Walters Gallery and the Maryland Historical Society museum. Sascha’s is a great place to grab a light lunch when museum hopping. We had a chopped salad and a panini. The ingredients were fresh and the taste just popped with vibrancy. We also tasted the Waldorf salad and the roasted carrots as sides. These were great accompaniments to the salad and panini. I really liked being able to see the ingredients and salads to see how fresh and tasty they are. The staff behind the counter is very helpful and friendly. We came back to Sascha’s again for lunch. The chopped salad is always terrific. The staff is friendly and helpful and the décor is fun and funky.

It’s just really average. I have no clue why people hype this place up so much. The price is steep for what you are getting. The food was not hot when it came to the table.

This is a bit of a late review, but I came here for Valentine’s Day and was thoroughly disappointed. They boasted a reasonably priced, delicious sounding three course Valentine’s Day menu and I was excited to go. The entrees were very poorly plated and tasted as they looked, which was bland. I had steak over veggies and my SO had the fish. Our experience was also poor. Coming into the restaurant, we had to wait awhile before we were seated. There was a sweet woman handing out hershey kisses from a basket, but our waitress had terrible service. She brought out our desserts while we were still eating our entrees and informed us that it was because they come out on a timed basis. She mentioned that she would put our desserts in the fridge, which indicated that they were no longer freshly made: one of our desserts had ice cream on it. Dessert was good, but not enough for us to come back. Perhaps the food and service is better on a regular day, but not that day, and we do not want to take the chance.

The initial first impression of Sascha’s is it is an upscale, gorgeous formal dining room. The high ceilings, beautiful artwork, and atmosphere are very promising aesthetic indicators of a lovely meal. The initial service was kinda confusing. We had two waitresses attending to us, taking our drinks, making entrée recommendations, and finally taking our order. I also got the vibe that one waitress was trying to upsell me on a pricier menu item a bit too hard. Throughout the meal, the service was fine but towards the end, with dessert and the check it was extremely slow, apparently for no reason. You get these tall, thin, cracker-like sticks as table appetizers. They sort of remind me of baguettes but hardened and miniature. I ordered the fried chicken, which came with macaroni and cheese, kale, and corn pudding. The fried chicken was super yummy! My friend said hers was really salty, but mine was delicious! The meat was noticeably juicy, loved it. And I consider my taste in fried chicken to be of high standards. However, everything else on my plate was a bit mediocre. The kale was just too weighed down in sauce for me, the macaroni and cheese was watery, not very cheesy or creamy, and I did not care for the corn pudding really at all. For dessert, we split a carrot cake. It was definitely not«Baltimore’s best carrot cake». It wasn’t very tasty, just not super flavorful for me. Just bland I think. The whipped cream was really good though. This place was fine to visit with a Groupon, but I do not believe I will return to Sascha’s again in the future.

We had an outstanding meal — mental health salad, bison sliders, chicken satay, fish tacos, mac n cheese side — excellent! Totally recommend this Baltimore favorite!

I had a groupon for this place, so came here with my boyfriend recently. First of all, I really like the ambiance of the restaurant. It s a pretty spacious restaurant, but It’s cozy and intimate and was great for a date night. The service was pretty decent. But the food was just okay. We ordered the duck confit quesadilla, bison sliders, and a fried chicken dish. The duck confit quesadilla was probably my favorite– the quesadilla is quite crispy and the duck was well flavored. Bison sliders were meh– they were served kinda cold. Fried chicken was mediocre as well. Without the groupon, the dishes are a bit overpriced, and I honestly wouldn’t have been happy about paying that much for the quality of food I got.

chopped salads are so great in summer. I love the bacon, green apple and blue cheese salad. So good!

Yay for Groupon. Otherwise, I would have given it less stars. This was my first time here but I have heard some good reviews on the place. I got the shrimp and grits and am glad I got the large because it was just right. The small would had left me hungry. My dish was just okay. Nothing to write home about but definitely not bad. Had it been my first time having shrimp and grits it may have been more enjoyable. My husband ordered the beast which is basically a burger with fries. He gave it a 2⁄5 and I ate his fried green tomato with my grits which helped jazz up my meal. My husband put it best by calling it average. We don’t plan on returning but we did not hate it. The staff is friendly and attentive from the moment you hit the door. The ambience was nice and good for couples. We had the bourbon banana bread pudding and would give that a 5⁄5.

Sasha’s is more like a 3.5 but I’m tipping the cup in favor of Sasha’s because it’s a local joint with a local attitude and unique style. It’s a staple of the neighborhood. However, despite the decent service in a well lit space I can’t say I totally loved the food as Much as I wanted too. We started with the scallops and short ribs. The presentations were great on both. The ribs were a bit sparse and slightly chewy. The scallops were the superior option. Soaked in a rich broth with noodles as a nice compliment. Our entrees included the filet over spinach and sea bass with potato gnocchi. The entrees weren’t too hot(like warm). However the filet was expertly prepared and cooked to perfection. The spinach was a perfect compliment. The fish was a bit underwhelming in terms of portion but the flavor combination was pretty decent although I can’t say the cream sauce was the best option. The skin was crispy(yay) and the gnocchi was great. For dessert we had the three part chocolate surprise which was Devine. I loved the presentation. In fact the presentation for all the dishes was very appealing. I appreciate the chefs care in terms of how the dishes looked. We also had the carrot cake for dessert which was equally delicious. So yeah we had a nice meal here. The restaurant was cozy and quiet. They seemed totally cool with the fact that we had a newborn too.

Came here for valentine’s day. Our server was really really bad. I forgot her name but I would have put it here. She brought out our dessert before our main course was even done, and saying that everything was timed. How’s that for personalization huh? The food was okay. To be honest I don’t even remember what we had.

The bartender is very friendly, cocktails are good/mediocre. The happy hour food is okay, hummus wasn’t anything special as l remember. Later on we have switched to a table, our server didn’t do anything wrong but she seemed to be super annoyed by her job, not a good vibe.

I came here a second time, and it was different from the first. Our main waitress was nice, and I won’t judge too much because she seemed new. The woman who brought us to our table was a little rude. It seemed as if the place was a little understaffed on a Fri night, or we just didn’t have the service we needed. We ordered the salt and pepper calamari(I recommend asking for lemons on the side, they were ok), gunpowder bison sliders(decent simple burger), and the fried green tomatoes(these weren’t the best, I wouldn’t highly recommend). If it were not for the groupon I got that cut down the price, I would not be that satisfied with the food.

It was a great atmosphere and environment. I would have never known it was there if it wasn’t for Unilocal.I’ve walked by it a million times. They have a small, but good beer and wine list. We were in a rush to get to Centre Stage and when we sat down the waitress asked if we were going to the show, since it starts to fill up and the small kitchen backs up. so she recommended we try and order as quickly as possible. She was really great about it. The food was alright, but the customer service, atmosphere and overall ambience made this worth going to.

Their drinks were amazing, wait was reasonable and the selection offered was eclectic and tasty! This is particularly great for a night where you’re not sure what you’re in the mood for or can’t decide on a cuisine because they do a great version of everything. I would strongly recommend the fried pickles as an appetizer.

Here’s the deal. Had a Groupon($ 20 for $ 40 yes it’s still available) for this gem that my friend was raving about. So of course I had indulge and try it out. Walked in and it’s was classy and cozy place. I had a seat at the bar since I was by myself. First on deck drinks! No a drink singular! I had the Mahi Tai. Great fruity cocktail with a small kick. Then for an appetizer I ordered the duck rolls. Not big in to duck because they are so cute. anyway these were very packed with flavor and the mango/pepper sauce was good too. Now for my entrée I ordered the shrimp and grits. The shrimp was amazing but the grits underwhelmed me. They needed more flavor something was missing. I made up for it by making sure I ate the well seasoned shrimp with the lacking grits. But maybe im just being picky, I’ve eaten grits all my life so I know what they should taste like. Overall decent service and good food.

The bourbon barrel ale is a must! The time my wife and I went, we took advantage of the restaurant week menu. I wish I could remember everything we ordered, but the two things that stood out most were the bison sliders which we exceptionally great and the 18 hour roasted prime rib(no longer on the menu). We also ordered the truffle fries which made for a nice little something on the side. This is a place I would recommend if you’re down in Baltimore and looking for a nice date spot. The atmosphere is semi-romantic and the crowd is mellow.

I had high hopes for Sascha’s based on the Unilocal reviews. I went there because I purchased a Groupon. My first time going was(unbeknownst to me) during Restaurant Week, so I was not able to use my coupon. The ambience is definitely a five – dimly lit, vibrant colors, unique pieces of art. They immediately provide you with olives and breadsticks upon seating. The breadsticks are long and thin and in a cup as though it were a flower arrangement – beautiful presentation, not so beautiful taste. The breadsticks were chalky and had no flavor. FIRSTVISIT — For restaurant week, I ordered shrimp and grits for my appetizer, seafood cioppino for my main course, and the trio of chocolate for my desert. –The shrimp and grits were AMAZING – very flavorful with chunks of chorizo. The consistency of the grits was perfect — not too thick, not too runny. The shrimp(2) were large, well-seasoned, and grilled perfectly. –The seafood cioppino(ciopino as spelled on their menu – should have been a sign) was the exact opposite, the broth had absolutely no flavor and the pappardelle was rubbery and tasteless. I just don’t understand how a stew that contains so many different types of seafood and supposedly roasted tomatoes can taste like that. I’ve had better stew from a can. I would have sent it back if we did not arrive so closely before the kitchen closed and if we did not have someplace else to be. –The trio of chocolate was very tasty — chocolate in three ways and truly decadent. My dining companion had the same meal combination as myself and felt the same. SECONDVISIT — I went again recently to use my Groupon. I ordered the mental greens salad, the shrimp and grits appetizer, and the apple streusel. –The mental greens salad was tasty and filling. They gave a generous portion. –This time, unfortunately, the shrimp and grits were not what I had the first time. The grits were runny, there was no chorizo, and there seemed to be a sweet cream that was pronounced in the dish. I asked the waitress about the house made chorizo that was advertised in the menu, and she said it was«blended in» which I found very hard to believe. I also feel that if you are going to advertise it on the menu, it should be discernible in both taste and sight. She also stated that they changed the recipe and that she favored the chunks of chorizo as well. If you change the recipe, it should improve the dish! –Finally, I had the apple streusel which wins the award for the most disappointing desert I have ever had — dry, flavorless and bland. Are you starting to notice a trend here? If not, I will spell it out for you: B-L-A-N-D! The menu seems imaginative as does the décor, but the flavor and execution of their dishes leaves a lot to be desired. I will say that the service both times was excellent. The waitresses were accommodating, upbeat, and one was even pretty funny. However, I will not be returning as my money can be better spent elsewhere.

After walking around Mount Vernon on a warm spring evening, my friends and I were hungry and looking to grab dinner nearby. After walking down Charles Street for a few blocks, we spotted Sascha’s 527 Café. We took a quick look at the menu and decided this was the place for us. The menu is divided into four main sections(on the grain, from the field, from the pasture and from the water) and there truly is something for everyone. After looking over the menu, we were all pleasantly surprised that the prices were on the lower side and many of the menu options came in multiple sizes depending on how hungry you were. One of my friends ordered the Airline Chicken Breast. She ordered the smaller size but it was a piece of chicken over a bed of rice topped with some greens and a sauce, she said the dish was very flavorful. My other friend ordered the Bistro Filet. While she said the cut of beef was a little bit on the fatty side, she absolutely loved the potato cake it came with as well as the demi glaze over the piece of meat. For my main course, I decided to try something a little different and ordered the Korean BBQ Tacos. The order came with three tacos that had beef bulgogi, kimchee and pickles. The dish was definitely on the small side but it was good nonetheless. As a group, we decided to share the Parmesan Herb Fries. They came with two delicious dipping sauces, a truffle aioli and herb olive oil. Personally I preferred the truffle aioli but both were wonderful additions to the fries. For great food and a fun, exciting menu, check out Sascha’s 527 Café in Mount Vernon.

I was pleasantly surprised with how good Sascha’s was! I saw that they had a Groupon and after talking with a friend who had come here, I decided to try this place out. The bf and I came on a Saturday evening. I LOVED the décor very warm, romantic, and twinkly with great art pieces and high ceilings. We ordered several dishes: 1. Bacon wrapped breadsticks: I was most skeptical about this dish(because I can totally wrap bacon around bread at home), but it was actually really good! The bacon was a little sweet and super crunchy with the breadsticks. 2. Zucchini frites: AWESOME. Well seasoned, super crispy on the outside with the semolina coating, and so moist on the inside! Very well done. 3. Salt and pepper calamari: good amount of coating(but not too much) and the calamari still had flavor. Sprinkled throughout were fried pieces of banana peppers which gave a nice boost of flavor. 4. Gunpowder bison sliders: super moist and great flavor, although the patty was much smaller than the brioche bread. I was most surprised with the little side salad that came with the sliders. I have no idea what the dressing was(perhaps a sweet caesar?) but it was awesome! One bit of bison slider + one bite of the salad = heaven in my mouth. The combination was amazing and I can’t even pinpoint why! 5. Duck confit quesadilla: my favorite of the night! It’s definitely a modern take of a quesadilla with the tortillas fried to a crisp. The duck was perfect, and there was SO much goat cheese! I loved it!!! The roasted poblano peppers were a bit overcooked and didn’t have too much flavor, but everything else was super tasty. Definitely coming back!

Deceptively cavernous space, soft red-melon paint everywhere which mantains intimacy. High-ceilinged dining room is separeatd from the spacious back bar(complete with curved walls and couch) by pillers. Captures that«old» Mt. Vernon charm. Less draft and more intimacy would be even better – maybe lower ceilings. [ambience — 4/5] Cold service, painfully succinct. Empty for dinner Tuesday so no host at the door and few servers. Our server asked for drinks on her first stop. Second and third stops were«ready to order?» That’s it, no small chat or charm. Please make me feel like a guest, not a consumer. [service — 2/5] Was told avoid cocktails, went with an overpriced Macallan – thin scotch list but decent spirits overall, wine list ok. [drinks — 3/5] Food was disappointing – the salty olives and crisp breadsticks were the best part. After that came soggy, flavorless short rib soft tacos. The mushrooms on the side were undercooked and tasted like red wine had simply been poured on them. The shrimp and grits were DRY. The shrimp had good char but were incredibly rubbery. Very little cheese in the sticky grits, the dry sausage providing the only seasoning I could find in the dish. [food — 2/5] They took our groupon without issue, which is the only reason my GF came back here. It would take even more than that to get me back.
