Suzie’s Soba

This food is amazing. People have the wrong impression about Suzie’s attitude — she is actually hilarious and very helpful in pairing drink with food and appetizers with entrees. I just giggle whenever she comes off as pushy or gruff — it’s adorable, not offensive. People who complain are maybe used to being coddled, but Suzie is EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGABLE AND AN AMAZING CHEF, so give credit where credit is due and learn to laugh a little.

The people were unfriendly and with no one there on a Monday night we asked to sit at a particular table and they refused. They rushed us to order and the Mizo soup was just average.

Back at this place just a few weeks ago. We brought our guests visiting Baltimore from out of town since we really like their food and we wanted them to be able to try it.
When we arrived, the place was empty (I’m not surprised since the last couple of times we were there, it was never busy) — we were seated and given the menu. Not even 3 minutes after, here comes Suzie and her attitude. Suzie needs to learn how to treat her customers well. She was rude to us and our visiting guests. I was really embarassed! Her questions made sense but her delivery is really bad. Bad as in ‘What the hell is your problem???’ She was snarky and I honestly wonder how in the world is the place able to stay open.
We got our food and ate in peace without her presence. We’ve decided to try to enjoy our dinner despite the earlier scenario. A few minutes later — we heard her yelling (in another language) at her poor cook/​assistant. It was really loud and unnecessary. Sighhhh. We just wanted to relax, have a good conversation over dinner with our friends. The good thing is that we were almost done with our food and we can leave the place soon!
We’ve gone to her restaurant several times because the food is good. We would skip other Hampden restaurants and eat here. After that night I’m not sure if we’re ever coming back.

I’m giving it a 2-​star because the food is good and I really hope that there is still a chance for this business to change for the better.
