(6÷14÷2016) Went to try out this friend of a friend’s place in Federal Hill(and I hate Federal Hill). Local Fry is on Cross Street bordering the Market, prime location, especially if you’re serving fries through drinking hours on the weekends. We went for an early dinner on a weeknight, was not packed, but was some brisk business, especially with carryout. Clientele mostly what you’d expect for a chip shop, scruffy 20-somethings in clothes they picked up off the top of the laundry pile(they’re fresher at the top) scuffling by in flip-flops. Ingredients were high quality, we tried a variety of toppings. I personally think that fries with awesome things on them sounds more awesome than they actually are. I love a good crispy, hot fry, and you get that… for like the first 5 minutes, then you get soggy fries with awesome things on them. The flavor combos are complex enough to be interesting, but not so much as to be distracting, and they’re classics, like Chicken Bacon Ranch(every fast food place has nailed that combo down), BBQ Pork, Hawaiian, and a few new classics-to-be like Banh Mi and Kimchi Pork. Classic Poutine had a thin brown gravy, mostly salty, not much beefy flavor, plenty of curds, though. The Bulgogi Banh Mi had some really nicely marinated meat, but very sweet. Overall, the whole thing was very sweet, even the pickled garnishes, but still quite tasty. Bread was a chewy baguette, close, very close. You can also get your sandwich Po’ Boy style. See, here I wonder if they’re using the same bread for both, ’cause that would be wrong. Rice Bowls were available the day we were there, a good option if you don’t feel like having fries for dinner. Wings were just the way I like them, deep-fried, and you have the option of «wet» or «dry.» Gojuchang sauce was sweet-savory and sticky, with nutty notes from sesame oil and seeds. Only wish is seasoning on the meat itself, maybe a brine beforehand would help. Sauces were delectable, but meat with no sauce underneath was somewhat bland. Place is clean and spacious and set up is for large groups or carryout. BYOB, so no messing with a liquor license. It looks like they might fit right into a careful niche in the midst of the bar scene. Prices reasonable(but you know, higher than the rest of the city because it’s Federal Hill).

New, clean, spacious place. Lots gourmet fry options. We got the buffalo chicken fries, carnitas fries and fish and chips. They were all good. The fries are good quality and taste yummy on their own and the toppings just make them more delicious. They don’t overdo it with the toppings in my opinion – perfect amount. They were also very flexible with making substitutions. Free soda refills. Took off one star because it’s overpriced. The carnitas fries were $ 12 which is a lot for what it was. It’s good but not worth $ 12. Our 3 fries and one soda cost $ 35. We were able to eat it all so they weren’t even that big. It was worth trying out but don’t think we’ll be regulars.

Fries: crispy and well seasoned. I had the regular, kimchee and short rib — all are recommended. As for the wings: fried deliciously, lots of fun, different flavors, and available in either dry rubs or wet flavor varieties. My favorite was the dry lemon garlic, least favorite the wet gochujang. Definitely check this place out and come with a group if you want to try a bunch of things. Also, it’s BYOB, so stop by the liquor store on your way in.

This place does everything right! No frills and excellent food. Carne Asada Fries were fresh and delicious. Jerk wings were spiced and on point. The pork banh mi was excellent, added a fried egg. Fish and chips lightly fried perfectly.

The local fry is in a small road near lots of bars, which explains their weird hours(thurs to sat there open until 12am and Monday’s closed). I went in the middle of the day but I can only imagine how good it would taste as drunk food. The atmosphere is classy cozy and the fries are so unique, with lots of Asian twists(bulgogi and rice bowls). Their limited time special is jerk chicken with mango salsa on top. Delicious!!! I will say that the bulgogi sandwich is very different from the normal bulgogi I’ve had at Korean bbq joints. The ranch on the chicken bacon ranch fries is very sharp and a little overpowering. TLDR; get the jerk chicken fries!!!

French Fries for Foodies! If you love fries(and I do), and you love trying interesting food combinations(which I do), this is the place for you. I’ve never been disappointed with any of their specialty french fry offerings. There are other menu items such as rice bowls, chicken wings, and banhmi, but I’m so hooked on the fries I haven’t been able to venture out and try them. This place is truly an original in the area. You order at the counter and sit where you like in the hip, clean, airy, and inviting dining area that has HD tvs… You can even BYOB. I would highly recommend.

The Local Fry is good– not great. The fries looked amazing in all of the Unilocal photos so quite honestly the lure of well– lit pics is essentially what made me decide to try them: Heres a little secret– the owners also own Americas Best Wings and Kimmie’s; the soul food by the pound spot found in a few neighborhoods throughout Baltimore. The menu includes a wide variety of both wings and loaded fries including toppings such as Bahn Mi, or the cheesesteak fries that I opted for. Both my friend and I found our fries to be a little on the salty side and I’m not sure if that was due to the toppings I chose or if the fries were actually just really salty. I really like the concept of this place and I will likely go again to try other options but ultimately I couldn’t help feeling like the Local Fry just put a fancy name and some high-end toppings on a chicken box.

I did it again ! Smh every time I order from here I order way to much. Won’t say it’s a waist because everything here is good, a different way to eat fries but good, damn good. Stay tuned pics are coming

Was there tonight on a very quiet evening, my friends and I are the only table there, and was rudely asked to leave on the grounds that people are not allowed to share food when taking advantage of the establishment’s BYOB rule. My friends and I understood perfectly and were very willing to comply if that is the official policy, however, the way the staff member, who appeared to be the manager, asked us to leave was very impolite and unpleasant. Definitely will not be returning and discouraging friends from coming as well. Highly disappointed with tonight’s experience.

Super cute place. the Fries were OK. for a place that centers on fries I think I was expecting the potatoes to be the star of the show, the anchor that held everything together. What I got instead was nice toppings. I had the short ribs topped fries and an order of jerk wings and the boo had the bacon chicken ranch fries and pork banh mih sandwich and an order of cheese fries cuz he is extra. Short rib was excellent, tender and juicy. the boo like the bacon chicken ranch fries. You will have to take his word for it because I detest ranch and didn’t touch them. Wings were hot and crispy but definitely not jerk. Half my fam is from Jamaica so i know my way around jerk these wings had nice flavor but did not blow me away. The sandwich was nice and light and the roll was perfect. let me tell you about the only hiccup we had. The boo got an order of plan cheddar bacon fries. Now he asked for shredded cheddar cheese the same kind that came on the bacon cheddar ranch fries. What he got instead was this cheese wiz sauce that was FOUL. I took the fries back to the counter to see if we could have that corrected. The otherwise nice girl at the counter said no we dont put shredded cheddar on the bacon cheese fries because it doesnt mesh well…-__– ummm you put that shredded cheddar on the bacon ranch chicken fries. Just give me those fries with no chicken and no bacon how hard could that be? bottom line we ended up throwing those away the cheese wiz was the worst thing i had tasted in a while. Definitely stop by its a nice concept and the fact that they left you BYOB is always top on my list but dont think you will be mind blown by the offerings. Food is good but not slap ya momma good.

Love the ambiance of the place and the hipster music. Meat on fries is something I thought I’d only see on the West Coast so I’m glad this place exists. Out of all their options, the Korean short-rib fries looked the best so I ordered that along with some lemon pepper wings. The wings were delicious and tastes similar to the lemon pepper wings from Buffalo Wild Wings. The short ribs had great flavor especially with the pickled onions. After eating the fries for a bit, it did get a bit dry but I quickly fixed that by drenching it with ranch(YES, great idea). All their food options are great for sharing so it’s definitely a good spot for a date or just hanging out with your homies. Overall, solid eats and I can’t wait to come back to try their Banh Mis.

The food was so delicious I’m already planning to go back in a few days. The service was great. What a great cheat meal. I had the local fries with garlic parmesan wings and honey lemon pepper wings. Everything was good. If you’re in the area make sure you stop there

Nice little spot of off Cross Street across from the Cross Street Market. This spot reminds me of a Chipotle for fries but you really don’t get to customize instead they have different choices. They also have salads, wings and Bahn Mis. We placed an order for the Carna Asada fries, fish and chips, pulled pork and a 5 pc honey old bay wings. I can truly say that It was a fast service! Food was out within 15 minutes. Fresh hot and yummy. The wings were perfect, crispy and sweet with a kick of old bay at the end. The hubby had the fish and chips. I think he was kind of mad that his fish was not chopped and placed on his fires like the others co he just chopped on his own and dumped his Cole slaw on the top! My Carna Asada fries were amazing however I felt I needed more of the creama on top but otherwise it was good. We will return when we are in the neighborhood again!!!

BYOB. Awesome. Fries and wings? Yes. The local fry is an Asian fusion and boy was it awesome. It’s more of a quick eat and place to chill. They need to get that liquor license. My suggestion to management is to add board games like Jenga and make the place like a beer garden. It’s already almost set up like one.

Located just across from Cross Street Market, off Light Street. It’s easy to walk past The Local Fry, because it tends to get mixed in with all the restaurants that line this area, but I;d recommend you stop in. The inside is large, with plenty of seating for small or large groups, and even some window facing counters for people that might be eating on their own and want to people watch. Their ‘thing’ is piles of french fries, with a variety of really cool toppings. Think of the Canadian treat of poutine, and then expand that idea around the globe. They top french fries with ingredients that evoke a wide range of tastes, including greek, cheese steak, Hawaiian, and even Korean BBQ. I’ve eaten these, and they’re really good. And with such a wide variety of tastes, you could eat these and be happy. But that’s not all they have here, and that’s not what I normally get. For me, it’s the Banh Mi and some chicken wings. I’ve had both the traditional and the Bulgogi, and every time I prefer the bulgogi. I know, I’m mixing cuisine… but it’s good! The chicken wings are also great, but are a bit pricey(not unusually expensive, but if they were cheaper I’d probably buy them more often). My go to is usually lemon pepper or ranch, both dry seasonings(because I love that crispy crunch).

CARNEASADAFRIES. THATISALL. Banh mi and carne asada are my favorite, I might even like carne asada fries better, but honestly it just depends on your mood. Each offers something a little different. I love the avocado and the lime that comes with the carne asada. Both fries have that tartness that I love(squeeze the lime that comes with the carne asada, and the pickled veggies in the banh mi) and the meats are both yum. If you don’t want as strong of a tang, then the pickled veggies might be a little much for you, but I still love it. I’ve been craving the fries ever since I tried it the first time a few weeks ago. I would say call ahead to make sure they have it, because I tried to get it again one night and they didn’t have any and I was just devastated, so save yourself a trip and call first in case they don’t have it. I’m not sure if it’s a limited time menu or if they’ve added it to the menu permanently, but def give it a try!

My friend and I went around 5:30 and there was plenty of seating. The menu looked so good and there were many different varieties of fries. I got the Korean BBQ Ribeye(Bulgogi) Fries and they were absolutely delicious; it had Korean marinated ribeye with pickled daikon and carrots, as well as jalapeños and cucumbers. The meat was cooked perfectly and the sauce was quite flavorful. My friend and I also ordered 2 portions of wings. They were fried and juicy and the two different rubs and sauces we got were pretty good. My favorite was the Caribbean Citrus rub and my least out of the two was the Honey Old Bay sauce. All in all, a very solid place. I would definitely go again.

I’m not sure how I missed The Local Fry on my many strolls down Cross St, but after hearing about it on Unilocal,I decided to check it out. Everything on the menu sounds amazing, so it was hard to decide what to get. My friend and I ended up splitting the Hawaiian fries and the banh mi. The banh mi was AMAZING — so fresh and perfectly seasoned. Even though The Local Fry is a specialty French Fry shop, don’t miss out on their delicious banh mi sandwiches! The Hawaiian fries were also delicious — I am not usually a fan of pineapple and pork on pizza, but the combination of pulled pork and pineapple salsa with the fries was very appetizing. Note: the portions of the fries are pretty big, so you might want to consider sharing with people! I appreciated the simple and modern décor and the selection of music playing in the background. The service was also quick and friendly! Found out it was BYOB, so definitely going to bring some beer on my next visit!

If you like fries, this place is a must! They have every fry topping from kimchi pork to Greek! The fries are perfectly crispy too. And can we please talk about their hot sauces to complement?! Yum! If you have room, definitely recommend their wings. Perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. And I must go back to try their bhan mi– looks legit! Only downside, it’s byob and you have to pay $ 2 for cups and $ 4 for a cork opener. There’s a liquor store less than a block away though.

Came here based on a recommendation from a friend. I was told by my friend to try the banh mi fries. I hadn’t tried such a thing before so I said why not. Service: Pretty prompt to take my order. It didn’t take too too long to make my order to go. Price: It was a little over $ 10 for the banh mi fries. I’ve never spent that much on fries so it was little high for me. However, considering how much ingredients that went into this order, it was justified to an extent. Food: Banh mi fries-Vietnamese pulled pork, with mayo, the typical pickled veggies that goes into a banh mi sandwich, and of course can’t forget the fries. Definitely an interesting concept and I enjoyed it. Conclusion: You have to try the banh mi fries out. I enjoyed it and I like the overall concept of fusing Vietnamese with fries. They have other items on the menu like bulgogi fries and such, so maybe try that too.
