The GOODNEWS is that the Mockingbird is taking this location. Cannot wait. !!! The Bantam Inn was an OLD concept. Tired! Keep watching the changes underway.

After many many many years the restaurant is now closed. This is a major tip don’t waste your time going. No food — no service — closed — kaput!

Everytime we go to The Bantam Inn we have an over the top wonderful meal. Everyone we bring with us raves about their meal, the fantastic service and the cozy atmosphere. I have had the best soft shell crab, swordfish and rack of lamb I have ever had here. Their RI Clam Chowder is superb as well as all of their homemade salad dressings and desserts. All courses are plentiful and well priced. Super wine list also priced well. I highly recommend this wonderful resturant, you will not be disappointed. I find it the best in Litchfiled County.

This is a delightful place to have a good, hearty dinner before or after a movie at the nearby Bantam Cinema. We were seated near the roaring fire in the wood-paneled main room and had the place almost to ourselves on a Saturday at 7 p.m. Our server was kind and very professional. We really enjoyed the medley of vegetables and potato served family style with dinner. My wife had liver with onions which was very tasty but sliced a little thin and the onions were not browned. I enjoyed the roast duck, especially the dark meat, but the breast seemed on the dry side. This may sound picky but at city prices we expected the highest quality. The place could use freshening by replacing the cute Country Curtains and bright overhead lighting. Given all of this, we intend to go back and to recommend it.

Having grown up not far from here, and with all the culinary fame that has been imbued upon Northwest CT over the past 15 years, The Bantam Inn is my favorite place to enjoy a meal with my family. Barbara is the most gracious host/server you will ever encounter and her husband whose name I have forgotten is a wonderful chef. Although it is not an «inn» in the sense that you can rent a room, the warm fire in the hearth, darkish European décor and wooden tables will make you feel as if you have entered your chalet for a cocktail and a meal after a long day of skiing. The menu is diverse and includes items ranging from Wiener Schnitzel to Alaskan King crab legs. I or my family have yet to have had a disappointing meal. The chicken broth soup with dumplings is an amazing appetizer as are the fried calamari served with their own homemade spicy marinara sauce. Also delicious are the sardine plate with roasted red peppers and olives. The French onion soup is excellent. All the entrees come with a house salad(I highly recommend the house made blue cheese dressing) and broiled French bread with melted butter and spices. The Wiener Schnitzel is my favorite entrée although I truly enjoy the crispy half duck with orange walnut stuffing and an orange sauce. Any of the seafood dishes are delicious as are the steaks and chops. The sides that come with each entrée are generally a bowl served family style of buttered carrots, broccoli and cauliflower drizzled with fried bread crumbs. I usually have a grey goose martini straight up with a couple olives; Barbara mixes excellent drinks. For dessert, all of which are house made, I opten order their coconut cream pie or black forest cake — they’re all good. If you feel like eating at home, The Bantam Inn will prepare a nice take out meal for you to go. Enjoy!
