Beautiful Connexticut setting. went for Sunday lunch… Greeting very casual… poured water before we even sat. Wait service never made eye contact with us. Very matter of fact service… Wait staff unprofessional. Terrible Rock music playing… Could hear the servers loud voices in the kitchen the entire time! I ordered ravioli and a salad and my husband ordered fettuccine with meat sauce… Food was excellent… But brought my meal and salad at the same time!?? Dessert boring too! It the service was comparable to the food and atmosphere. This would have 5 stars. Found out tip is included. That explains the lousy service!!!

This place is awesome. I stayed here for a wedding in one of the cabins. It’s exactly what you think Connecticut should look like, only more so.

My friend and I drove up from the city for a getaway night. She made a reservation at the spa for a wash and blow dry. Upon arriving she was told they didn’t have shampoo, and she would have to wash her hair in the room. She felt this was inappropriate and didn’t come back. We had dinner that night and found the courses to be lackluster smothered in sauce. Over all I felt the hotel was way over priced and the quality of food and service not up to New York City standards. The$ 1604 charges for room and dining were certainly extravagant. I see no need to return when I visit Litchfield county.

I stayed at the Winvian for a few days. Someone else was paying my tab, so of course I enjoyed it. The grounds are beautiful, the cabins were fun and comfortable, the food was quite good, and the staff was friendly and hospitable. What’s not to like? I had no complaints whatsoever. But it did get me to thinking if I would have felt the same way had I been paying for the experience myself, given that the place is so expensive. And I concluded that for me, it probably would not have been worth the price. The cottages were whimsical, and were decked out with all sorts of fun trappings. Bose sound systems, steam showers, fancy mood lighting. And the beds were really comfortable. But somehow, at that price point, I would have expected a different level of luxury and service. Breakfast in the morning was fresh and tasty, but on two days I had to get up from the table and track down the server for condiments I had requested– while my meal got cold at the table. A towel that I had left on the bathroom floor for removal because it was dirty was rehung on top of my clean robe. It’s the little details that add up when you spend at a certain level, and a few of those details can be improved to make the experience a top notch one. Whether something is «worth it» is obviously a personal equation. For me, I prefer luxury and pampering over whimsy. But that’s a personal preference. There’s no denying, though, that the Winvian offers a unique experience in beautiful surroundings.

Beautiful setting. Food was very good, though overpriced. Extensive wine list. The two things I remember most about my experience: I was charged for tap water and management automatically added a gratuity for a table of two. A very unprofessional practice that sends a strong, unwelcoming message to guests. I always thought that a gratuity was something that was earned by the server and the amount was determined by me. Head up to MA to the Old Inn on the Green for a better dining experience.

Stayed here this past weekend for a getaway. And a perfect getaway it was. We stayed in the golf cottage– which was an experience we’ll never forget. It overlooked the meadow but had 8 holes of putt putt in the room! The tub is in a steam shower for an incredible experience. Dinner was divine, worth the drive, and we’d totally be back again for it. Breakfast we had in the cottage and would’ve been perfect if it had been hot. All in all, a worthwhile experience to go. Worth every penny.

I loved this place … Worth every dime. The food and customer service was over the top… I never knew this place existed. I wish I knew about it sooner… I recommend this highly to ANYONE who wants to relax, eat well, and be treated like royalty. The Industry cottage was great… The Fireplace right in front of the spacious jetted tub and the steam shower was amazing. the mini bar was stocked well … I was able to make our own mixed drinks… I cant say enough about this place. Absolutely Beautiful and so worth it!!! Thank You Winvian for an awesome relaxing stay and to the chef that made our steaks and salad… OMG… You are talented. Keep up the excellent 5 star accommodations !!

Came here for a weekend getaway, for a relaxing overnight stay, a delicious dinner, and lovely breakfast. The restaurant on property is great, and has many Italians on staff, which is a great sign for quality cuisine, as the Italians in the food industry do it right. The architecture and interior design in the buildings and cabins is perfect and quite beautiful with a playful element. I highly recommend staying and dining here.

We stayed two nights in Secret Society. It is beautiful and so is the setting at the Winvian. The bathroom is also amazing with a steam shower and whirlpool tub. I also enjoyed the glass roof of the cottage and the loft bedroom. We did not eat here due to the price and not very good ratings regarding value and also be aware that almost everything is an add-on…if you want anything from your fridge/wet bar there are additional charges which I understand for alcohol but it is also for regular drinks, which in my opinion should be included in the price. Also our ice machine was noisy at times and we never even used it so I don’t know why it was still making ice when it was full. I did enjoy the nespresso machine which was free and the housekeeper even left me an extra box of my favorite kind. They will also call you every night to see if you are having dinner there which kind of annoyed me since they already told us to reserve if we wanted to go. It just seemed like they were trying to push that. same thing with breakfast — if you don’t go by like 9:30(say you want to sleep in!) they will call to see if you are coming. Overall though, it was an awesome experience!

Beautiful and relaxing. Would recommend Winvian to anyone wanting to get away from the city and take a breather in a beautifully peaceful place. The greenhouse is a breathtaking cottage with all the amenities you could ask for, even bicycles! And to make this getaway extra special the pup was able to tag along! Everything was perfect — not to mention the absolutely delicious food at every meal and great kind service. Such a beautiful farm to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. can’t wait to return !

By far one of the most unique resorts I have ever visited. Winvian is more like adult camp with the coolest cabins that you will ever see. Each cabin, with its unique theme, are nothing like any place you will ever see. Incredibly deluxe furnishings and magnificent bathrooms. The spa is gorgeous, the common space or living room is warm and comfortable, the restaurant food and service are second to none. If you are looking for a unique location for a business meeting, party or wedding, this will fit the bill as well.

Winvian is Connecticut’s version of Fantasy Island, only better and no sign of Tattoo… Does heaven on earth exist? Why, yes… yes it does. It is in Morris. It is called Winvian. We entered this breathtaking estate via winding driveway. We paused at an dyllic white picket gate, announce our presence and were electronically granted access to a place where hands and feet down, I was served the best meal ever to pass my lips. We were greeted at the door, by name. Shown to a table in our(almost) private room. Enjoyed a fire burning in the fireplace. Were attended by french-accented handsome men. Were treated to food I would have never dared to select on my own(which I gobbled with the delight of a child at Christmas). If I weren’t a lady, I would have licked the plates. The meal ended with locally made artisan cheese, honeycomb from the estate apiary and… I thought I died, but then I remembered I was at Winvian. Save your bucks and get here ASAP and treat someone you love to an unforgettable experience.

As good as it gets Hands down one of the best meals I’ve ever had. We went with a large crowd for Sunday brunch and pretty much tried everything in the menu, and some. Starting from the cheese platter to the home grown honey, every appetizer was perfect. Even the french fries were pretty awesome. I tried about 3 different entrees: The duck confit, the Buffalo steak and the gnocchi. All 3 of them were cooked to perfection. Tried their Chocolate Soufflé for dessert and was equally wonderful. The service was outstanding too. It was totally worth the 2 hour drive.

Beautiful setting. Pleasant staff. Overpriced for dinner. Food was average at best and portions very small. Four of us all agreed it was not the level of dining we had looked forward to.

This review is for the day spa only. We didn’t stay or eat there, so I can’t speak to that. I went here with a group. I have to admit that when we were making reservations, I was a bit put off by the prices. How could anything be worth this much! Still, I didn’t get upset when I paid the bill. I can see how several hours of rest and relaxation, in addition to the treatment, make the price reasonable. This spa is in a beautiful setting, and the rooms to relax in are wonderful. I had a scrub, and it was highly enjoyable. It was like a scrub and a massage all in one. Also, you have pretty much unlimited time to lounge in your robe and slippers(provided), take a shower, sit in a sauna(somewhat small and co-ed, just so you know), drink tea(complimentary), and just relax in the beautiful environment. I uploaded a picture so you can see one of the areas. There were a few minor issues with timing, and some of the girls had their treatments cut short so the spa could stay on schedule. My only real complaint with this was that the spa had said that they could be flexible with treatments, but the guest of honor had her treatment cut short without any discussion or acknowledgment of that fact. This was unfortunate because the next girl would have been happy to give some of her time so that the guest of honor could have the best possible time on her special day. Other girls had their treatments cut short too, again without discussion or acknowledgment. I wish the spa had been more accomodating on that point, or even discussed it so that we could tell them the best way to handle any concerns that they had.

First class place. Food first. They bring out loads of sampler dishes. My wife who is much more sophisticated then me would give it 5 stars. She said it was impeccable. My taste is geared to a lower end food. Famous Dave’s ribs is one of my favorites to give you an idea. The food is too foo foo for my taste. The hotel was very cool. We stayed in the charter oak for one night and the helicopter for the second night. Room was awesome. Service was awesome. In the helicopter room it would help if they had a TV at the bed. In the Charter Oak room it was very hard to turn the TV channels but the shower was huge & awesome!

I’ve eaten in Rome, Paris, New York, Boston, Miami, San Francisco — our dinner at The Winvian on Friday exceeded any previous dining experience in the last twenty years. The atmosphere was excellent — beautiful location, intimate setting, perfect timing and personalized service(including a visit to our table by the supremely talented head chef Chris Eddy). The dinner menu was brief but thoughtful. I was very pleased with the wine list — nearly 20 pages of half and full bottles from all over the world at very reasonable prices across a spectrum of points. It did not appear as though the mark up was gouging as at some venues. Wine: Craggy Range, Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand, 2009. Perfect bouquet and temperature. Although we finished our bottle, our server graciously offered additional pours… generous touch! Appetizers: Spring Pea Soup with Seared Scallops — delicious flavor with fresh mint and a dusting of chili and pea foam, baby spring peas from the garden and perfectly cooked scallops. Grilled Octopus Salad — my husband raved about the preparation, he was mystified by how light and tender the octupus was. Amuse #1: Oyster Rockerfeller on a bed of fleur di lis and the tiniest diced lemon zest– my husband ate both of these and enjoyed them. Amuse #2: Jerusalem Artichoke over an artichoke purée with olive oil — this was fine, nothing huge here. Amuse #3: Rabbit Tortellini — my husband loved this(I don’t eat rabbit), again he was surprised at how the meat maintained such a tender consistency with a perfectly grilled exterior. He said the tortellini was well made and reminded him of his Italian grandmother’s. Entrée: Seared Halibut with grilled leeks — Excellent piece of fish that was over a bed of tiny diced pears(I think? It was a very mild flavored citrus) and leeks that were not just grilled but wrapped and knotted with tiny herbs and microgreens. Duck Breast — My husband feared that it might be undercooked at first glance but once he sliced and tasted it, he realized he’d been overcooking duck all of these years. A small duck confit with seared cippolini onions accompanied. He normally chooses a cut of beef for dinner but has now decided this was his favorite meal. Dessert: Chocolate Souflee with crème brûlée sauce and vanilla gelatto. Just the right amount of sweet and rich, perfect small portion so as not to overstuff after a such a wonderful meal. From flavor profiles to presentation to temperature and seasonings, the food was magnicent. WEWILLRETURNREGULARLY.
