We really enjoyed our first visit here for a stop on our Sunday afternoon drive. It’s a rustic little cantina style, nothing fancy interior but fun and welcoming! Happy Hour was taking place with beer, wine and margarita specials, along with a nice selection of food options. We tried the bbq’d rib«tickler» which was just 2 ribs for a taste… very good! Also had the honey bbq wings! Also very tasty. They were smoked first, then friend and bbq’d. Sauce was very good. We definitely want to go back and try more!

Dropped in for a meal with my wife and daughter. Should have stayed in Brookfield and visited the local mexican at home because there was no taste at all to my shredded beef quesadilla, refried beans were cold, i mean not close to warm. My wife could not finish her salmon which she normally demolishes. Not worth the $ 91 I spent, I won’t be back.

Really enjoyed Sunday Happy Hour! What an fantastic deal! The margaritas went down almost too smooth and the HR food items were delicious. I was anticipating small portions in relation to the small price tag, but when our food came I was shocked at the hearty portions. I ordered 3 chicken(soft) tacos and took half of it home. Our table shared several other items that were equally yummy. Great smokey flavor on the bbq. Our server/bartender, Liz was a sweetheart. Attentive, answered our questions and made great drinks even when the place was packed. Can’t wait to go back and try other menu items. All the food that came out looked great.

Been there many times and it is always great. Love the chicken, pulled beef, sides and everything. Service is consistent. We miss the beef ribs. Would love to have them back

Just like I would imagine walking into a Mexican cantina — including the flies buzzing around. Food is still delicious and you get plenty for your money. Waitresses are friendly and helpful. Food is always good no matter if you order mexican or bbq. Just wish they would bring back the mexican rice. We will be back again soon.

Cute little place. I had the shrimp and scallops fajita special. It was really good. Alot of seafood and not a lot of peppers and onions. I even loved having hot sauce at each table. My fiancé had the pulled pork and brisket. He said it was good. BBQ sauce at table was a little vinegary. Service was alittle slow but it was busy. The best part is our food came out HOT. Which doesn’t normally happen at restaurants. We’d definitely take the 35min drive back.

I’ve been going to Wood’s Pit for years and have always been pleased. The service is good and they are attentive. I tend to lean more towards the Mexican side of the menu and highly recommend the chicken chimichanga. The barbecue is delicious and I was very pleased with the brisket. When I do have the ability to fit in dessert as their portions are borderline obscene I like the fried ice cream. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. I drive about 45 minutes out of my way to go there and it’s worth the trip.

Paul and his crew have been pleasing the palates of their guests for over 20 years. As you approach the restaurant you can smell the slow cooking smoked process going strong! It’s all good here, but the wings, chimichangas, ribs and burritos are local favorites. You can’t go wrong with nachos as an appetizer and the jalapeño corn bread is delicious. Make a «Pitt» stop to check this place out, you won’t be disappointed!

Save your money. Eat someplace else. Food was drenched in cheese, lacked real character or distinctive taste. Guacamole was a paste at best that tasted more like baby food. At least it’s in a pretty area.

This was our second time here… and probably our last. Dinner time on a Saturday night. .but they are out of ribs and out of brisket… HELLO you serve barbecue .how the hell do you run out of brisket and ribs? Had a taco salad. no flavor. .chewy chicken… a waste of gas to even get there.

Hadn’t been here before, but it was a friend’s birthday Friday and his wife asked me to pick up food for the 6 of us stopping over. I looked at the menu online and like pulled pork, so I ordered the platter with the 2 sides plus jalapeño corn bread($ 14.95). I also placed everyone else’s order and asked for it to be read back to me. It took a few tries, but the woman on the other end eventually was able to read me back the order entirely correct. Upon picking up the order(everything was packed up and I couldn’t see what was what) I gave the woman doing the pick up orders the printed list of what I ordered and asked if she could check it. She took the list and food around the back of the bar to the kitchen and came back and said it’s all there. After arriving at my friends, I started to hand out the food and noticed how small the portions were. My friend(who’s birthday it was) said he had eaten at Woods several times and could not believe these were platter sized meals, and the sides came in those small plastic tubs you usually get extra ketchup or other condiments in. Plus(you guessed it) there were a few things missing(extra sides people had ordered). Being at least 20 min, one way, from Woods, I was told to call and ask about the portion sizes and the missing sides. I was told the portion sizes were correct, and the woman appologized for the missing sides, but could not correct it on my CC payment. She’d leave a note at the bar saying I could get them free on my next visit. As for the food: the pulled pork was ok, but that’s it… ok. The condiment sized sides were a bit less desirable than the pork. The chicken was liked by the person who ordered it though. Bottom line: BEWARE to go orders and if the sit down orders are the same size, I’d say keep looking.

we stopped in after a day tromping in the woods. Fast friendly service, quick meal delivery. Yes the booths are a bit dated, but they and the dining room are clean and comfortable. I had the Cajun blackened catfish with slaw and fries. My wife had a half rack of ribs, same sides. Both dishes were hot when delivered and met our expectations. Minimal craft beer on draft, no biggie. We will return and share a BBQ meal.

Umm yumm. Stopped by randomly on our way through town and was pleasantly surprised with a charming unaffected authentic cozy local atmosphere and DELISHBBQ. Brisket and pulled pork were juicy and the cheddar mash hit the spot. Sure service is a tad slow but that’s part of that charming atmosphere I mentioned. I’d prefer the slower pace to some overly trained insincere miserable waiter at a chain. These kinds of places are a dying breed and I will go out of my way to get back.

Disappointed. I thought it would be good but I was wrong. None of us liked our meals. We decided to try it because it was next door to the Bantam Cinema. Pricing was good but the place needs to be redecorated and cleaned. Some new receipes could also help.

If I could give 2 ratings, one for food and one for service, I would. The service was extremely slow from the get go. Long time to get menus, then drink order, then the food took a very long time. At most BBQ joints, the food arrives quickly as it’s been cooking all day and it’s just putting it together. Not here. If you go, be prepared for a long wait. We were there on a Saturday night and it was crowded, but should not take that long. Now, once the food arrives, it was VERY good. We all had some combination of ribs and pulled pork. The ribs were cooked well and moist, falling off the none. The pulled pork was Carolina in a light vinegar seasoning… they were both excellent. The food was a 4.

Apologies for the longest review ever, but The Woods deserves every word! Now… allow me to start with a question followed by a bold statement. Who do you trust, one star reviews with unreasonable complaints from yokels who have never left Litchfield County? Or a Unilocal!Elite member who has lived in all corners if the country, including LA and the South, who dines at première establishments often and is somewhat of an expert on both Mexican and BBQ eating? If your answer is the latter, then trust me when I say this: The Woods is the SINGLEBESTBBQ/Tex-Mex within 50 miles, if not farther. I live near Danbury, and we make the hour drive to Bantem specifically to eat dinner here. It’s worth the trip, no questions asked. And the portions are sized straight out of Texas, you can easily get two meals out of many entrees. My bold statement: these are the single best chicken wings I have ever had. And trust me… I have had a LOT of chicken wings. They must be smoked prior to being fried, because the moisture and flavor is unreal. Personally I like the them red hot buffalo style, but the BBQ variety is just as good. I haven’t tried all the sauces, but what I have had has kept me coming back. If you’re not going with wings for an app, I’d recommend the Buffalo shrimp or spinach con queso, which comes with some amazing chips that I can’t even describe, I just know that they’re astonishingly delicious! You didn’t come here for apps tho, let’s get onto some dinners! We’re starting with the BBQ side of the menu. Honestly, the baby back ribs are fantastic. The full rack of ribs is enough for two meals! The brisket, pulled pork, and smoked chicken are also amazing, but those ribs keep me coming back! No matter what your choice of meat is, my sides never change: collared greens, mashed potatoes, some mac and cheese, and jalepeño corn bread. If I’m doing BBQ, I’m gonna do it right! On to the Mexican side of the menu. They’ve got everything you’d expect… your tacos, burritos, and enchiladas, all served with traditional rice and beans. All of them can be filled with slow cooked pulled pork, shredded beef, or shredded chicken, all of which have a bold smokey flavor. My absolute favorite are the chimichangas, and they are huuuuge! Literally six inches in diameter and a foot long. If you’re not starving, there is a shorter variety called the mini-changa, but who are you kidding, spend the extra two bucks and double down! It’s no Mexican food without margaritas or daqueries, and Woods has a variety of some delicious, albeit sweet, frozen beverages. I got a banana margarita, and I must say, it’s one of the best and most unique margaritas I’ve had. Tequila and banana purée aren’t ingredients I’d think would go together, but they sure do! There’s also a lot more options as well as a full beer menu. And for desert, pick your poison, it’s all great. From fried ice cream to bread pudding to apple crisp, if you like desert, you’re in the right place. So to sum it up… I know what I’m talking about, and I know that Woods is the best of its kind. You won’t go wrong, and you won’t leave hungry nor disappointed!

I really enjoy this place in the winter months when I’m not smoking and grilling my own brisket and ribs. Their beef ribs are pretty good and hit the spot when you need it to. The chicken is surprising moist, but the brisket needs help. I think they use very lean brisket that when usually left uncut is left with that fat pad that continually moistens and flavors the meat while it is smoked. This brisket is dry and lacking flavor. The chicken wings are always good, especially paired with their tasty margaritas!

I’ve lived in the area for two years and today was my first Wood’s Pit experience… and it will be my last. My husband ate here once, 10 years ago, and his experience was poor, so we have steered clear. Due to its convenient location next to Bantam Theater, I urged him to give it another try… whoops, bad idea. First my «salad»(iceberg, shredded carrots, two cherry tomatoes and 5 sliced olives) arrived at the table frozen, so did the 2nd salad. Gave up. Then my burrito arrived, which was nothing more than a heap of tasteless cheese wrapped up in a flour tortilla, beside a pile of tasteless rice and beans. The only thing I had that was decent were the complimentary chips… which were basically all I ate. My husband was not shocked when he was less than wow’d with his sweet potato chili, collard greens and fries. Another reviewer said it best… everything tastes the same, and it’s not good. How is this place still in business and well liked? Mystery. Epic fail.

Took the drive up to Bantam one night last week. Place was full, but soon cleared out as 7 o’clock approached. I ordered the sliced brisket special with coleslaw & beans for sides — was good & filling. My gf had the bar-b-que chicken & ribs combo. She said the chicken was AWESOME(I had a few bites of hers, liked it), but the ribs tasted a bit dry as she finished them. Was worth the drive, might try the Mexican next time there.

I grew up in Litchfield & spent some time in Austin, TX but my favorite Tex-Mex spot is in Bantam, CT. Now that I’ve moved away I really miss Woods & always pester my family to go there when I’m back in the area. I’ve sampled the most of their menu to satisfaction but always order the same thing: two orders of wings(regular BBQ& hot honey) and a large order of their hot chicken enchiladas. And I can’t forget that they have the best damn cole slaw I’ve ever tasted! I’m salivating right now thinking of this meal. My only minor complaints are that they charge you for extra sour cream & the only Mexican beer they offer is Dos Equis. However, this is completely offset by their awesome food!
