We love this place! The owner often can be found working, and always very friendly! One of the only restaurants open for the winter months in town. The food is always good, with generous servings for all! We love the hand made fried spring rolls, and tempura roll! Great for take out too!

I’m a bit under the whether and hoped that some spicy Thai would have helped clear up my head. Could not imagine a bigger disappointment. The«drunken noodle» tasted like the main seasoning was the electric pink sweet and sour sauce served with egg rolls. I asked for a 7 – 8 on a 1 – 6 spice scale. I got maybe a three. I asked for extra egg in my dish and there was barely a touch. When brought to the attention of the server, her reply was«Oh. Sorry?» And then walked away. Did not care about the service or our food. The pahd Thai was served with so much liquid it’d get confused with a thick stew or soup. Obviously frozen veggies. Tough dry meat. There was a giant bowl of crab Rangoon filling in the next room. Just sitting here. A guy was sitting in front Of it on his phone. Sneezing and coughing stuff up non stop. He was sitting 12 inches away from this heaping bowl of filling. The Thai Iced tea was not edible. Looked and tasted like carrot juice that had gone bad. I’ve had Thai food from Bangkok to Dayton ohio and this was the resounding champion of the worst Thai food ever prepared. It may have come from a frozen package. Or a La Choy can. Just skip it all together.

This is one of the worst Thai food I have had. And I have had lottt of Thai food around the country. The place was empty when we stopped for lunch. We ordered Pad Thai with tofu and massaman curry with tofu. Let’s just say that v barely ate anything. Massaman was watery and sweet! It is supposed to be spicy and I had asked for more spice. And it was sweet without any taste. Tofu was refried and oily when u eat it. My husband had one bite of pad thai and said he cannot eat it. The noodles were sticky and very oily. No sauce or taste. Needless to say we were out in 10 min. Service was alright but food was not terrible.

How is this place in business? I’ve had some poor meals over past few years i’ve been using Unilocal & always considered writing a Unilocal review but i just didn’t care enough to go through the trouble of creating an account. We just spent $ 60 on take out and when we took out the«fresh» spring rolls, the sweet & sour sauce container was 25% full. Read 75% empty. But they must have known we wouldn’t need much sauce because these were the saddest wilted lettuce spring rolls we have ever seen. The lettuce would be brown by tomorrow had we kept them. We each choked down a bite or two & threw the rest away. My girlfriend’s Pud Sa-Eaw consisted of half the noodles being white, not even cooked in any kind of sauce and the broccoli was steamed to the point of mushiness. The Pineapple Fried Rice looked awful so i didn’t even try it, my girlfriend said it was by far the worst she had ever had. My Spicy Basil Duck was alright. This white boy has a hard time gettting Thai people to take me seriously when i tell them i want 6 out of 5 stars on the spicy scale but this meal was truly spicy. We don’t like wasting food so aside from tossing the spring rolls, the rest is in the fridge. But do i honestly think we’ll eat it? More likely it will sit for a couple of days & then $ 60 into the garbage. WEHATETHISPLACE, AVOIDATALLCOSTS. I would say worst Thai food ever but honestly, i think this is the worst restaurant food i have ever had.

Good was average as best. We ordered vegetarian entrees. All had tons of fried tofu and nothing else. Sushi left much to be desired. Would not recommend

Our Favorite! We visit Bar Harbor every year and Siam Orchid is number one on our list. The food is always excellent, plated nicely, and comes with friendly service. The outdoor seating is our preference since we can bring our dog.

Incredible SPICY food! While we enjoyed the lobster in Bay Harbor we definitely need our spicy fix, this was definitely the right place for the job! If you’re all about the ambience then you may not be thrilled but if you love finding hole-in-the-wall places with excellent taste value then there’s not better place in Bay Harbor. We had the ginger fried rice, chicken red curry and soft shell crab with ginger and the food did not disappoint at all! We especially loved the fried rice, so much so that we ordered another portion after we were already full! The crab was also excellent! The red curry was okay, but didn’t steal the show for us. We ordered a spice level of 4 out of 5, which is great for us since we’re spicy food junkies, but I would recommend a 3 in general. Enjoy and tip generously! :)

We should have listened to the previous reviews. The only positive was the service. The Tom Kha soup was extremely sweet. The fresh spring rolls contained a bunch of iceberg lettuce and cilantro. Finally the maki was made with warm rice causing the avocado to melt.

I went to the Siam Orchid once for lunch and had the lunch special Thai Basil with beef. I asked for it as «spicy as they could make it.» I had no complaints with my dish. The rice was properly cooked and there was an adequate amount of(properly cooked) vegetables(onions, green/red bell peppers, and mushrooms. However, they were a bit stingy with the beef. The heat level was also decent. I love extremely spicy food, and while my dish wasn’t «extremely» spicy, it did have done heat. I’m a little surprised this place doesn’t receive better ratings. My four star rating is perhaps a bit generous, but the food I received was on par with the majority of Thai restaurants I’ve visited at various places in the U.S.

Over priced and the food was bland. Although the owners are authentic Thai, the food did not live up to the hype. I was seriously disappointed. Oh well, what can you expect when you are this far north.

We were greeted with a smile and an upbeat comment about the rain which we found very charming. We had come to pick up a to-go lunch order. The man we dealt with continued to be friendly and polite. He stated he moved to France at the age of five. If your budget is tight, don’t eat in Bar Harbor. This Thai restaurant is higher priced than most, but I think it’s still fair compared to other restaurants on the island. The lunch portion was just right. We ordered Thai tea, crab rangoons, chicken red curry and chicken Thai basil. The temperature was hot, the spice was extremely mild. The meals had loads of perfectly cooked veggies(not soggy) – extremely fresh. Highly recommended! If you like fresh American style Thai food, you’ll enjoy Siam Orchid.

Have you ever been to a Chinese Place that also serves Thai? It’s never got an authentic Thai taste. Generally just off the mark. That’s this place. The servers are really friendly Tofu is cooked well. The Pad Thai(they have it listed on the menu as Pud Thai.) that said Maybe it was Pud Thai? Maybe the Pud Thai is spot on?

Tasty Thai and a super friendly staff! My husband and I paused to read a menu from a table in the patio seating area. We had our beloved golden retriever with us and while we were still standing and looking at the menu a kind server came out with a bowl of water for our dog. Smart move! We immediately sat down at a table. We shared an order of fresh spring rolls with a sweet and sour sipping sauce. Typically tasty! I ordered pad Thai, but made it vegan by having them hold the eggs and fish sauce. It hit the spot. The server brought out dog more water and later even brought him a tiny piece of pork. We had a great meal and a wonderful dining experience. We’re always grateful for a dog friendly restaurant and we appreciated that our server was a sweet dog lover.

It was probably one of the few Asian restaurants at Bar Harbor and sad to say they did not have lobster on the menu in the lobster town! It was a small restaurant and was very busy, we waited for a few minutes to get a table. The server was really nice. I had a very good coconut chicken soup it was delicious! The pad thai — umm. not so much the noodles were not soaked or cooked long enough it was a very saucy and sweet sauce. I also had the squid green curry. It was ok. We even left our card there because of the 4th of July fireworks, having to rush as it started earlier than expected.

Congrats Siam Orchid: you are the worst Thai restaurant I have ever been to! Drunken noodles with beef is my favorite Thai dish. I know what it’s supposed to look like and taste like: spicy, with wide noodles. The menu even notes that it’s supposed to be spicy. My order from this place, however, was not at all spicy(not even a little) — more sweet than anything — and the noodles were the thin pad thai noodles. Worse yet, my girlfriend’s chicken massaman curry«didn’t taste like anything,» according to her. It was a watery nothingness. Add to the top of that the annoying manager(or owner?) who was talking to his staff very loudly, close enough to the seating area that the noise was a part of our experience. I have never been in a Thai restaurant that was loud and annoying like that. Oh yeah, and each step of the process took way longer than it should have. Once we ordered it took a long time for our food to arrive. When I was ready to pay the check, it took the waiter a long time to come deliver that. When I had given him my credit card, it took an unreasonably long time for him to return with that. Each step of the way, this place was slow. Also evidently there was no toilet paper in the women’s room. My girlfriend had to grab a roll in the hallway outside the bathroom to take in. Super tacky.

This Thai Place is definitely an A-Ok type of place. I was pleased with my lunch and service and would happily return. While it isn’t ranking in my top über nom nom thai places, that’s mostly because– well I’ve had some dang good thai food! Especially in Az. I came in a little after the lunch hour on a week day so service was no problem. There were only a few others in there eating at the sushi bar and I was greeted and seated promptly. Food came out quickly as well. I had everything I needed throughout the whole meal. Everyone was also very friendly. Atmosphere was cute and cozy. Fun little decorations on the wall. Sushi bar was pretty small, not a lot of room up there if it were to get busy in the evenings. They didn’t seem too gluten free savvy but when i just explained what I couldn’t have they assured me the curries were all gluten free(as is pretty standard with thai). I ordered the green curry with scallops spice one(yes I’m a wimp). The curry was actually well spiced, even for a one. I felt like there was something else missing in the curry though, salt perhaps? The fresh veggies were good and the scallop portion was standard. It was the same as I’d get in Az if I ordered a seafood curry… so I kinda thought since I was in bar harbor I’d have gotten a couple extra. There were 4 small-med size scallops in the lunch portion. I was pleased that when I took half of my order to go they provided me some extra rice at no charge(I get cranky at being charged for rice haha). Price was fair– 10 bucks for a lunch meal. Though I am used to most lunch meals at thai places coming with soup/salad and a spring roll or something. This was just the curry. Maybe I’m just spoiled back home =) If you’re in the area this is a solid thai place. Give it a try and see what you think.

Great Thai place in Bar Harbor. We’ve been here twice and the food has been consistently good. We had the Mixed Vegetables with Garlic Sauce and Tofu, Pad See Ew, and Drunken Noodle. All really good. The servers are great and attentive. Both times we’ve been it’s quiet, just a few taken tables. I understand though — most people want burgers and American style fare. But if you are in the area and craving Asian, this is the place to go!
