The owners contacted me about my review and threatened legal action. So yeah, definitely sticking with 1 star.

Stopped here after a long day of distillery tours and sightseeing. The cocktails were very reasonably priced and the company of the Colonel made our evening. A true southern gentleman if I ever met one. Highly recommend the cocktail named the Jingle. They actually serve it 2 different ways. One way for the ladies and one for the gentlemen. I was telling the Colonel about my love for green beans. He had served some for dinner and even brought he out a serving to enjoy. They were fantastic! We are returning soon to this marvelous place for dinner soon.

Looking for a great bourban tasting experience? Visit the Colonel at this Bardstown spot. Great selection of tasting flights, friendly expert advice from the colonel and comfortable environment. Definitely worth a stop if you want to sample bourbon… even had Pappy Van Winkle.

My husband and I were very excited about the Bourbon Dinner at the Chapeze House. The description of the dinner was just what we were looking for to wrap up our time on the Bourbon Trail. We were instructed to arrive at 6:30 for dinner. What we found was a cocktail hour and a half. Drinks were offered at $ 13 for cocktails and flights of bourbon at a range of $ 20 upwards. Nibbles were served that amounted to pretzels with a bourbon cheese dip. We had been led to believe that The Colonel would be guiding us through the intricacies of the Bourbon world and this did not happen. Fortunately we were sitting at a table where another guest who was well versed in Bourbon and he was able to fill in the gaps. Dinner was served and while there were elements of the dinner that were quite good the pork chop was over cooked and at best it fell far short of what we would have cooked at home. Bottom line we felt that it was overpriced and not what we expected.

Chapeze House is an interesting stop in Bardstown. The propreietor, who calls himself«The Colonel» actually does kinda look like Colonel Sanders. I have no idea if he was ever actually in the military but he claims to have some major drinking skills. He had some interesting stories to share, many of which I didn’t understand but had people with a better grasp of the local dialect cracking up. i drank and dined here with a group of people who I had never met before, and who seemed to frown upon Califrnia on the whole, so the experience was a little dicey. The Good: Great selection of local bourbons and the place has a relaxing southern feel to it. Overall, the food is simple but pretty good. i could see this being more enjoyable for older folks. Rosemarie was a sweet lady. The Bad: The Borboun is overpiced. A «flight» is $ 30, and I mistakenly thought 5 «jiggers» meant 5 shots. Instead, these so-called«jiggers» are not even a ½ shot. So $ 30 for ~2 shots of mid grade bourbon is no deal. The floor layout is odd, as its an old house that the owner and his employees seem to still live in. My thick pork chop was dry and room temperature. The corn wasn’t very flavorful compared to what I can get in the summer back home. The Ugly: The Colonel is a pusher. I’m pretty sure I saw his eyes get replaced with dollar signs when a couple of us claimed to be whiskey drinkers. From that point on he hounded us the rest of the dinner with offers of more bourbon and claims that we couldn’t drink the way he could when he was younger. He also put a $ 14.50 cookbook in front of each of use while we were eating desert like we have asked to buy them. Shameless. Overall, it was a cool experience. Not saying’ I’d do it again, but it was neat to talk to a fella that saw himeself as a Kentucky landmark for a while and try his wares.

The tasting was a treat and we also had dinner. The slow roasted pork was great but certainly a little pricey. I am not a fan of bourbon flavored foods but that is just personal taste, the sides were still tasty. The bourbon tasting was pleasant and the Colonel was full of great information and even inspired me to do my own tastings. More of a stop before or after dinner for the bourbon tasting, yet worth eating their pork just once.

Had the Bourbon Tasting and Southern Style Dinner for our anniversary. The pours of bourbon were generous by tasting standards and the selection impressive. Having tried five different bourbons each, we were ready for the dinner. It didn’t disappoint. The sides of coleslaw, potato salad, green beans, baked apples, and corn on the cob were done in traditional Southern style that doesn’t rely on a deep fryer. The pork chop was hot off the grill, and accented well with a bourbon barbeque sauce. For dessert we enjoyed fresh strawberries over pound cake with a hard bourbon sauce, topped with vanilla ice cream. A delightful evening with lots of personal attention.

Delightful! We had the best time tasting quality bourbon, the best mint juleps in Ky. Colonel was very knowledgable about how to taste bourbon and bourbon folklore. Margaret Sue prepared a delicious southern dinner! The biggest and best pork chop we had experienced anywhere! The special dessert was an experience also… Started with Ky coffee, hot cherry crisp with vanilla ice cream. Then lights went out, only candle light for the Spirit stories told by the Colonel. Great time was had by all! We highly recommend this unforgettable Kentucky experience! Lyvonne & Ron Sandra & David
