Food was very disappointing and service was pretty sub par. Food was lukewarm and overlooked.

I was in the area for a craft fair and the group I was with decided to stop here for lunch. From the name of it I was expecting a larger variety of soups and salads. Turns out it is mostly like a diner with a few soup options and a salad bar. Everyone in my group opted for the soup and salad bar combo so I can’t really say anything about the rest of their food. The clam chowder was only average, tasted like something you might get in a hospital cafeteria. The bacon that was in it was way too fatty. The salad bar was decent enough but nothing spectacular. The worst part was that the plates and bowls did not seem to be the cleanest which is an obvious turn off. Overall, I wouldn’t return here(borderlining 2 ½ stars). While they were busy and the service was fine, the food that should theoretically be the best due to their name, was very underwhelming.

Interestingly, at 11:30 am no soup or greens can be had here. Just diner quality eggs and such. Slow, slow service. Weak on the coffee refreshes. Meh.

I’ve just been a couple of times. Hot roast beef sandwich with fries and gravy everywhere. absolute heaven, I’d rate this over the hot turkey sandwich. The service was outstanding the second time I went, good on the first. They were both friendly and I really felt at home here. Hot Roast Beef Sandwich… just thinking about creates an uncontrollable urge to go back, but it’s 10pm and surely they are closed by now.

This place is great. It is welcoming and has the only salad bar in all of Barre. I had the reuben sandwich with fries and a side cup of clam chowder. My spoon didn’t stand up straight on its own, but the chowdah was still really good. The rueben was good… solid sandwich and the fries were really good also. It had been raining and cold the day I went, so anything hot and comforting would have made me happy, but I’ve never been disappointed by this place.

What a pleasant surprise! Drove through town on a rainy June on a mini vacation. Wanted to warm up with soup. I was very delighted to find this restaurant with not only 4 homemade soups but a nice fresh salad bar. Waitstaff very friendly and helpful. I loved the big chunks of clams in the chowda’ and cook not upset when i asked for cayanne pepper so i could make soup more to my taste. French onion soup was my favorite. If we lived closer would def be a regular. By the way check out Saturday nights there… am told its a great night for specials.

I took my wife here for breakfast, and it started off rocky. Our waitress took 15 minutes to greet us and we thought about going elsewhere, but after she greeted us the service and food was top notch from that point on. Chalked it up to waitress just having off day as we all do

We were on a charity tour of the country, from San Francisco to Vermont and back. We’ve eaten in a LOT of places along the way, and this is one that we want to come back to when we can. My lady got the haddock au gratin, and I got the baked haddock. We ended up swapping halfway through, so each of us could get some of what the other had. Both of them were very good. The salad bar had a few special items, otherwise just a well stocked and fresh slalad bar. Now, the soups, that was a different story. They had a chicken, sausage, potato chowder that made me think I had died and gone to heaven. It was even better than their exceptionally chunky clam chowder, and really, I’m a big fan of clam chowder. The prices were just a bit higher than I like to pay when I’m on the road, but not at all out of line considering the food and service. Yes, the service was great.

Had breakfast here the day after a big hike and was STARVED. Accordingly, I ate every bite, however it wasn’t because I was ecstatic about the food. I had Eggs Bene and the hollandaise was somewhat peculiar. Alarming, I know. But I forged on and ate every bit, and did not get ill. IT’s a real down home atmosphere with what appeared to be a lot of locals/regulars. I might try breakfast here again, but I might also avoid the bene, which was a special that day.

I would not suggest going here for anything except breakfast. They have great prices and great food when it comes to breakfast. Lunch and dinner I can not say the same. This place is also very busy in the morning so arrive early!!!

This place was great for me. The salad bar had a great turnover and was fresh. I made a beautiful salad and had some great French onion soup. At a glance, the menu was standard sandwiches, grill and French fries. It was bustling at 1:30pm on a Monday, which I think says a lot for this area. The senior crowd was lovely, it reminded me of lunching with grandma and her friends.

This has been my standby in Barre for many years. Nothing outstanding but I have never had anything bad here. It’s always been open any time I have dropped by. I eat when I can when I am on the road and hate the places that keep irregular hours — especially when they don’t post them! I also like that you can get a cheap, light dinner meal if you want — $ 5.95 in May 2013,

I have to admit I was thrown off by the name. Soups and GREENS sounded like they would be a more vegetarian friendly restaurant. While they do have a salad bar, it wasn’t particularly large, which was weird because you’d think since that’s obviously the«Green» part of their name, it would be more of a focus. Its definitely very diner-esque and I was expecting something a little more exciting and involved in local farm food.

Best egg plant I have ever tried. Great salad bar. The pie was homemade. Great service and fair atmosphere, but the food is so delicious that if you go there you will go back when you have the chance.

My boyfriend refers to this facility as «Poops N’ Screams» for what happened to his digestive tract after he ate here in the past. The food is sub-par and the service is meh. I’m scared to park my car in the lot. .. have you see the people that hang out on the streets in that area?

Soup’s(as it’s know to the locals) is the place to go when you want a decent meal at a reasonable price. Their menu is quite large and diverse so no matter what you are in the mood for you should be ok. While a majority of their food could be considered diner food, they offer many daily specials some of which are outside typical diner food. Their Saturday night Steamship special, where they roll a big hunk of roast beast right to the table and carve it off for you, is a big hit. Especially since they will keep coming round until you can’t eat any more. As previously mentioned they have a fairly extensive salad bar that includes 3 daily homemade soups. It comes included with most dinner entrees and can be added for a couple $$ to the lunch items. Some people could(and do) easily make a meal out of the soup and salad bar. I can’t end this review withou mentioning breakfast which is one of thier busiest times, and for good reason. Soups has a good classic breakfast menu at a very affordable price. Many of the locals start thier weekend days with a filling breakfast here, so you may have to wait a bit, but it’s worth it. If you’re really hungry go for the omlette, it’s huge!

I use to live in VT and would love to stop in for their Fried Ice Cream. Now I make it a point to go when I am up visiting friends. It is the best! I have been looking and trying others in various states and places but so far no other place tops this one. I usually have the salad, soup, bread bar which is yummy since I am a soup eater and they have 3 at the bar to choose from. Save room for the Dessert! Our group just went and we order 4 Fried Ice Creams. Van ice cream in a great batter, fried quick then topped with hot choc sauce, whip cream, peanuts, and cherry. We had a big group so don’t be fooled… it is filling so save room. It is messy to eat which makes it fun! I have a pic but not sure how to save it here…
