Went looking for a hearty breakfast after staying at the Willowvale Inn. Unilocal directed us to the Candlepin. we were waited on by a charming young lady who turned out to be the owner’s daughter who told us her dad is a chef. The food was homemade, hot, and hit the spot. Very well priced as well. definitely would go again if in the area.

Wonderful food, wonderful service, and wonderful people! My son and I were in Barton awaiting an auto repair, and we enjoyed two great meals, the use of their telephone, since our cell phones had no service, and lots of amusing banter with diners and staff alike on that bright, cold Saturday morning of October 29, 2011. My son, a professional cook, wishes he could get a breakfast like the one he enjoyed there that he didn’t have to cook himself in the Seacoast NH area where we live! Don’t drive by without filling up at the Candlepin in Barton, Vermont! –Liberty Livery and RoadNannys of New England

This place is local flavaaaah at its finest. First thing we notice when we come in, two older gents rockin’ out some cover jams with two guitars and a lot of soul. Before we know it, three diners are dancing and clapping along to «My Girl» — table for two, please! The food was fresh, made from scratch and much better than I thought it was going to be(sorry, Candlepin but the inside is a little grimy). Wait staff couldn’t have been sweeter. I had a baked Haddock(fresh!) that came with a soup, bread roll, potato and vegetable for $ 12.95. My boyfriend got the fish n’ chips(fried haddock/soup/fries/vegetable/roll) for $ 10.95. Pretty awesome prices. Plus they have a heap of sandwiches for $ 5 – 7. beer for $ 3 More highlights? A fellow diner getting his fiddle out from the car and attempting a few songs with the band. This place definitely put a smile on my face. * * * * * CASHONLY!!! * * * * * *

Definitely check out the Candlepin when in Barton. Good fresh hearty fare, nicely sized portions and very attentive service. Good deals on the specials, Live music is coming also! Did I mention… friendly people?

The Candlepin has been sold! The new name is VP’s. Not sure what this means. We got a 10% off coupon at our campground. We asked some lcoals who reported that the place has some kinks. Will def try it in a few months, on my next vist to the North Country.
