Love this little spot! Key word — little. They do their best to turn over tables quickly but it is popular and if you don’t start early, then expect for them to tell you it will be a 50 minute wait for breakfast on Sunday. I’ve been a couple times and both meals were great. Most recently I had the carmelized onion and swiss omelette, so so good! They make a good strong coffee. Will definitely be back.

A hidden gem? I’m new to the area and have been here twice so far and each experience has been excellent! This is a small and cozy place and the breakfast in on par with more expensive restaurants. I ordered the mango macadamia pancakes and it was superbly made. There was no need for syrup the sauce that comes with was more than enough to cover the cakes. The staff is always friendly and helpful and the prices are very reasonable. Give them and try. Contact me and we’ll do lunch. lol

Love the breakfast here! It’s like that special place at every vacation spot you’ve ever been to — the one with the crowd in front waiting to eat. There is often a crowd here, too, and it’s well deserved. They have many interesting breakfast options, from eggs in a skillet with home fries and thick bacon and cheese, to homemade muffins(try the Elvis!) that will knock your socks off. Thick French toast made with homemade breads, sticky buns, huge pancakes, fresh cereals, fruits and great coffee. I love me some Mockingbird Breakfast! Their dinners are also excellent. They are slightly pricey, but the food is well prepared and you can really appreciate their attention to quality. I really enjoyed my last meal there, a savory veal chop cooled to perfection with a Demi glacé. The hustle bustle of the morning crowd is replaced with an intimate feel at night time, especially during fall and winter.

Love love love this breakfast place! Everything here is delicious! Somehow managed to keep a small town atmosphere even though crazily crowded sometimes.

Best atmosphere /food combination for breakfast for a 10 mile radius. But if you want same quality and lower prices, Copper Kettle is a really good choice too.

Small, quaint place with the servers all being local students. Nothing fancy but breakfast is phenomenal — omelettes, pancakes, the muffins. Amazing. Be prepared to wait on weekends.

Spent my first visit eating outside on a beautiful fall day. I had the the crab cake benedict, which was outstanding! As a native of Maryland, I have struggled to find good crab cakes in NJ& the Mockingbird Café offers a great one: no over-use of breading/filler, no peppers, just lots of wonderful crabmeat! It was a pleasant dining experience, in every way — charming place!

Good but not great. A good option for the limited choices in the area that we found. Everything is «pretty good» but nothing was exceptional. Service was a bit flustered, they forgot some of the items we ordered. Outdoor seating was nice, and the indoor location has a great vibe.

Went here with some friends on a sunday morning and it was packed… people kept bumping into our chairs left and right… we had about 5 different waitstaff each time. I ordered the dutch baby and was definitely a very small portion for the $ 8/$ 9 price. My biggest pet peeve is when everyones order doesnt arrive at the same time! I dnt think I’ll be going there again.

Outstanding food, outstanding service — we came in with 4 kids ranging in age from 7 months to 15 yrs. The server was very patient with our kids, accommodating and fast. We had no wait, in and out in 30 mins or so — for a Sunday that’s pretty good! The blueberry pancakes were some of the best I’ve ever had! We had everything from steak and eggs, the skillet breakfast, wild rice porridge(outstanding), the west style omelette, and everything was excellent! We are just sad that they will be closed for the Labor Day holiday otherwise we’d be back tomorrow for another breakfast!(And to keep it fun, they have crayons on the table, and the table cloth is made of paper which you can draw on, an awesome distraction for the kids! So much so, that we didn’t even have to break out the electronic devices! :)

Mockingbird Café is quaint, adorable spot located in «downtown» Basking Ridge. They have a few tables inside and out. It gets quite busy on weekend mornings. The first time we went the wait was an hour at 8:30…so we left. We returned during the week and it was more manageable, no wait. Be careful stepping in as their is a big step to enter(especially when you exit). Their menu consists of Dutch Babies(wait time is a while as they are made fresh), French Toast, Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, Skillets, Rumbles(a mix mash of several items) and many more breakfast items. They also serve lunch with different items. The waitstaff is young, female. Very nice and organized. We decided to split the Cowboy Skillet(potatoes, eggs, bacon, cheese and topped with a melt in your mouth biscuit) and Very Veggie Rumble(A messy omelette with today’s veggies and cheese). Both were quite delicious. Everything tasted fresh. The coffee was good as well. It’s not Starbucks but it gave me the caffeine boost I needed… Prices are moderate. It’s a solid breakfast stop in the area. ENJOY!

–Food was okay. I got a lamb burger, pretty sure it was low quality because it tasted like liver. –Service was not good. We were sat and then waited five minutes to be handed menus by a completely different person. The place wasn’t busy, they were just talking to each other. Wait time for food was okay. –Didn’t know how to split checks. –Prices a bit much(for a place like this) for lunch. I suspect this is a good breakfast place, not good for lunch. –Waiters/Waitresses dress kinda dirty/not appropriate for a server(just a dirty white t-shirt and sweat pants).

So me and a few buddies stopped into the Mockingbird Café for breakfast after our wild New York City weekend. Let’s just say we were drawn to the attractive exterior and friendly vibe but boy were we mistaken. Here’s two things that should keep you away; tap water & powdered eggs. On top of that, the air conditioner was dripping on my friend and his plate from the ceiling. All four of us ordered pancakes and eggs and when we requested ketchup and syrup we were delivered literally a single serving of each. Let’s talk about that water again; don’t be fooled by the fancy glassware it is served in, this water was warm as the restaurant itself(which happened to be 83 degrees as well) and we weren’t once offered ice for the sink water, or cream and sugar for our coffee. The only reason they earned a two was because the pancakes and sausage were very good and our final waitress we had was very nice and sweet. Step up your game Mockingbird!

Mockingbird Café is by far the best breakfast spot I have ever visited. I don’t know where to begin, but the experience was just second to none. Although we waited for about 30 minutes to be seated, it was well worth the wait. Don’t come here if you are in a rush because there might only be about 15 tables. Further, they’re not in the business of rushing you in or out. So, sit enjoy your meal. The Lone Ranger in the kitchen puts out fantastic dishes! We ordered steak & eggs, cowboy skillet(typical egg platter served in a cast iron skillet), and their traditional French Toast. All three were amazing in flavor and presentation. It will be difficult to top this joint. Finally, it’s worth it even if you have to travel 45 minutes. The ride there is beautiful too.

I was impressed with the delicious and inventive variety this place has to offer for breakfast/brunch. We sat outside on a beatiful Sunday morning and had a delightful time. I went inside to use the restroom and was happy we decided to sit outside because the inside was unbearably hot. Maybe their ac wasn’t on because it’s spring? I’m not sure. At any rate, My fiancé and I shared the lemon ricotta pancakes, Dutch babies, and a blueberry muffin. The pancakes were thick, fluffy, and zesty and stuffed with the perfect amount of ricotta cheese. The lemon curd on the side added the perfect touch. I liked how they put it on the the side because too much lemon curd can be overpowering. The Dutch puppies were very eggy but good. We agreed that the pancakes were the winner. The blueberry muffin was interesting. The blueberries were not scattered and were instead concentrated in the center of the muffin. We read good reviews about the biscuits so we tried to order one but were told that they didn’t have any extras. This was acceptable because they say on their menu that you can order a biscuit as a side, but only if they have leftovers. We’ll try to get it next time! Like other reviewers noted, yes the staff is all high school and college kids, and yes they are all wearing a strange gym –like uniform, but who cares. The wait staff was very pleasant and very on top of everything.

This little café tucked in the town of Basking Ridge is awesome. It’s small but it has its own cute little homie touches. The food has its own unique touches. Which makes it one of a kind. So if your in the area or just looking for something different this is the spot to try.

Mockingbird Café is my absolute favorite breakfast spot. What prevents me from giving them a five star review is the dinner. In terms of their breakfast menu, the cowboy skillet is delicious! It’s worth ordering for the biscuit alone. Make sure to ask for raspberry or strawberry jam as well to go with it. The twisted bacon is perfectly cooked and the skillet comes out piping hot. The bananas foster french toast and the banana pancakes are wonderful too. This place gets pretty packed on weekends for brunch, so be sure to get there early or be prepared to wait. The dinnertime crowd is decidedly smaller, for obvious reasons. The menu is overpriced and the food is just not good. I would highly recommend Mockingbird for an outstanding breakfast on weekdays or weekends, but would steer anyone away from eating dinner there.

Cute place, respectful teenage or younger wait staff, ok food, but a special surprise knocked it from 3 stars to 2. Walked in on a Sunday morning and it was pretty busy as expected. The décor was cute, warm, arts and crafts style and cottage-like. A really young waitress took our order and she was very respectful and well trained. Following one of the Unilocal tips, I ordered the«Cleanup in Aisle 3» Rumble, which is like a mish mosh of scrambled eggs and meats, cheeses and vegetables. It was decent, but nothing to write home about, except that I found a hair amongst the scrambled eggs. That’s too bad, because this is a decent breakfast place. My wife got the mango macadamia pancackes and thought they were too sweet, which is really saying something, because she has a sweet tooth and then some. We also got a side of «say uncle» which is like mashed potatoes with cheese and bacon on it. It was too heavy for our liking. In the end, we were full, which I suppose was the goal of the morning. So mission accomplished. We won’t be back.

Came here on a Saturday around 0800 and the place was packed! We were promptly seated. Totally kid friendly spot! To my surprise they use white craft paper as the table cloth and place little buckets with crayons on each table FUNSIES! Quickly I began to draw =)). This place has a warm loving feeling. You can tell it’s more of a family establishment yet it was serene. The place is not too loud or obnoxious. There are windows surrounding the establishment which allowed us to get a beautiful view of the snow. The servers all appeared to be teenagers, but extremely professional and polite. The menu is pretty basic with pancakes, waffles, biscuits, eggs, omelets, hash browns etc. I had the mango macadamia nut pancakes. The actual pancake was excellent, but I’d advise you to have the syrup served on the side. The mango syrup was a bit overwhelming, but the pancake naturally was phenomenal. My husband got the clean up on aisle 3 and although the eggs were a bit too runny the meal was still enjoyable. We got a side of hash browns with cheese and bacon, that was not bad either. Be aware that this place makes no substitutions with the food so don’t try to change the game. By the time we left there was a line of people waiting to be seated and that was like 0900 so plan to get here early cause this place is popping!
