Welp, it turns out we visited on the next to last day the Brewhouse will be in business, so this review hardly matters. Beer selection heavily biased towards IPA and lighter beers, food OK but not great, nice location, but after today they’re out of business while the owner pursues turning the place strictly into a craft brewery(if media reports can be believed). A little pricey to be honest with burgers north of $ 10. Advice to owner: add doppelbocks and similar darker beers to your selection.

Six, 6, yes SIXDOLLARS!!! For a pint of beer! They brew they’re own beer and don’t even offer a pale ale or an IPA. They serve a skunky amber ale and a slightly below average brown ale. The bands are mostly local Musicians/bums who don’t want a real job. Problem here is the owner is offering a low end — mid range product at high-end city(Dallas) prices. I can get the same beer 512IPA anywhere in Austin for $ 3 – 4. Bastrop Brew Pub was a great idea, but charging $$$$$SIXDOLLARS!!! for a pint of warm, sub-par beer in Bastrop of all places is ridiculous!

So anyplace in Bastrop with this kind of atmosphere, drink selection, and food should get a 4 to 5 star rating. This is a one of a kind spot situated right on the river which allows lots of patio space, washers, and a really primo view of the Colorado River. The burgers and apps are good. They have a ton of food options and also have some nice dinner items. The food cost is average to high depending on what you get. I know some people look for a burger joint to be cheap, but this place is not cheap and I advise you to go somewhere else if that is what you are looking for. Bastrop Brewhouse has more than just beer. They have a full bar with a number of local spirits. I tried out a couple of local bourbon’s last visit. The service staff are really nice and try really hard to meet your expectations. I think at times they have a long way from the kitchen to your table outside so that might delay things at times. I highly recommend having lunch at this spot or a drink at night.

LAME… a brew house that ran out of their own beer. The bartender explained to me that their was such a demand for the beer they ran out. He stated 12÷12÷12 is their grand opening. So you been opened for month’s without your beer? To add insult to injury the bartender began to try to explain to me that the beers they DO have on tap are all brewed in Texas and are very similar to Bastrop’s brewed quality. I laughed and walked out. Dogfish Head is not in Texas!!! This place is weak. I was in town for the weekend and will probably never come back to Bastrop. The only good thing was that I left this place and discovered RAMOS down the street. This is why I gave it a 1 star. I will be giving this place a second shot in December. I hope to change the review.

Fantastic brew and chew venue in adorable Bastrop! The grounds are pretty massive and definitely worth the exploration, but the real star here is the Beer Garden! The view of the Colorado River are fantastic! A perfect way to spend a beautiful Sunday afternoon!

Watched football on a breezy Sunday afternoon. The draught beer was very good. The food was better than average. The service was great. I could see the service outside potentially being meh — the setup makes it feel like an ‘out of sight, out of mind’ situation. Given the other reviews, which are probably valid, we opted to sit inside. The woman behind the bar(a Jets fan) took great care of us. I recommend the Burgers, Seasonal Vegetables and the That’s What She Said Stout. I will return the next time we’re in town.

This review is for the food. My mother an I stopped in here one weekday afternoon for lunch. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip and the Ruben egg rolls. The dip had too much sour cream?(I’m guessing that’s what it was) it had just a terrible taste. It’s the worst spinach and artichoke dip I have ever had. Then the egg rolls… they had like this funky taste to them. Like the sauerkraut or meat had gone bad. Ugh just bad bad bad. I wish I could say that I liked something from the meal but honestly there wasn’t anything I enjoyed. On the other hand the service was great and the ice tea was fine :-) I plan on eating here again(my family lives in Bastrop) I will just try a hamburger or salad that’s what I saw a lot of other people eating. The view is awesome over fisherman’s park and they haver awesome patio space! They also have a beer garden.

What a great place to discover! If ever you are in Bastrop(we were staying at the Hyatt Lost Pines), you’ve got to go! The service was so nice and friendly, and the food was so awesome! I had the Texas Trout and it was divine. The husband and son had the Fish and Chips and were thrilled, and my daughter had the burger. She won! It was really one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. The brews were great! I would highly recommend ordering a flight to see which taste you prefer. We found this place on Unilocal… and I am so thankful!

Hubby and I stopped here for lunch on the drive to the Hill Country and really liked it. The food was great, the service good, and Hubby enjoyed his beer. The prices are a bit high for sandwiches, but I think everything is in the area.

Okay. This updated review is based solely on my experience at the bar, and does not include anything about the food, which I didn’t try this time around. Beers for the evening were all house — Everyday Bitter, Alley B Pale Ale(an APA), and Nice Day for an IPA(an IPA, naturally). I’d say all three were quite good, but I goofed up and chomped on breath mints on my drive from Austin to Bastrop so the first pint I had — the bitter — was wrecked(no fault to Bastrop Brewhouse, that was my own doing). With happy hour prices, the visit was also easy on the pocketbook. They offer flights as well — 4 tasters for $ 5, so you can run the board of 12 beers for $ 15. Or stick with what you like, they ain’t gonna mind either way. I saw a couple bottles being served, so I’m not altogether certain all their beer offerings were on the menu board, or it’s possible a couple of their menu board beers aren’t tap — further exploration is required. As for the menu board, it’s pretty much the same system as the board at Chicago House, so with each beer, you can look and see what each beer is, its IBUs, etc. Good set-up, big fan of that, wish more bars did that, but I digress. The bartenders were friendly, and from what I could overhear when they were talking with other customers, were knowledgable enough about the beers on tap to offer good choices. I’d love to know if their tapmaster has plans to expand their selections to include more local craft beers(or to expand their own offerings), but they may be maxed out on numbers of taps they can maintain. They are a full-service bar now, so if you want cocktails or shots, you’ll be covered here as well. Based on bar experience alone, I’ll be back if I spend another evening or two in Bastrop. Next time, I’ll give the food another shot(and my fingers REALLY are crossed that that experience is as positive as the bar experience was — the food I saw being served was plated nicely and looked good)… I still think this is more of a restaurant than a bar, but they know their audience and they know what works in Bastrop. And next time, I’ll also shoot to do a tour of the brew section of the place as well.

Came after I played a gig at Lost Pines. It was late, ChiQui was hungry and thirsty. I wanted something hearty, but nothing too unhealthy. The smoked lemon pepper wings were the bombizzle! Hubs really loved them and couldn’t stop raving about them. He ordered the half rack of baby back ribs which came with mashed potatoes. I’m not big on ribs but these were very nice, and melted in your mouth. I had the Texas Trout plate that came with mash and seasonal veggies(zucchini/pepper medley). The trout was well seasoned and topped with a sliver of herbed butter. That fillet was huge! Hubs helped me eat some of it, and I still had a huge chunk left over. Damn straight I took the rest to go. I normally don’t do that unless I really enjoyed it so that should say a lot about this dish. Veggies were buttery and crisp. At first I ordered a Mexican Martini. It was pretty horrible; I should have sent it back but didn’t feel like being an asshole that particular evening. I don’t think the BT tasted it to make sure it was good because it was like drinking nail polish remover. On a happy note, their St. Camilla honey brown saved the day. They had live music going on that Saturday and it seemed like most people were outside and the bar inside wasn’t too packed. Very low key little place. Reminds me of a small Gristmill. WTF Moment: When we got home I forgot to take my to-go box out of the car. :(

This place gets five stars for so many reasons. The first is not a single crap beer on the menu! Okay, sure they have Lone Star BUT there is no Bud, Coors nor Miller! You Go and thank you for that. They have a small selection of tap beers but it’s LOCAL people. Get on with your sorry selfs and realize this is good. Expand your horizons and embrace the local beers. I mean come on, for once in your life you might actually taste beer and not water in a can! The location is amazing — right on the Colorado river in this little area of old cabins or houses that have been reinvented into a quint little mecca of amazing. Restored, renewed, reused. What’s old is new again and for good reason. The Brewhouse is huge with an amazing outdoor area. They have live local music on Friday and Saturday night and a small but excellent menu of food that is all local. I love it —– support the local economy, support the state and do what’s right for the planet all in one place. Did I mention the food was also fabulous? Waitstaff were educated and friendly, service was spot on and the prices were good. And in case no one was paying attention, THISPLACEHASTOLDTHECRAPBEERSOF Coorbudmiller — NOTHANKYOU! Now make the drive, visit an awesome location, eat some great food and finally taste a real beer! It’s a good thing.

Downgrade two stars after my last couple of horrible experiences at the Bastrop Brewhouse. I love the setting of this place — a bunch of old houses(shacks really) arranged on the banks of the Colorado River in downtown Bastrop. The first few times I went to the Brewhouse, the food was good and prices reasonable(service — well, that’s another story). They were out of their own, house-brewed beer about half the time(one time it was blamed on the weather?). My last visit took place after they changed the menu — prices are WAY up, charging almost fine dining prices for what is a informal experience. Service is a nagging problem here. From the hostess stand to the bartender(who argued with me, telling me they’ve never been out of their own beer… what a(young) a-hole) to the server, this place needs some simple staff training. After being told we’d have to wait 30 minutes for a table for two(even though there were a number of two-tops available) I asked why the wait and was told they ‘didn’t want to back up the kitchen.’ When we did get seated, our first encounter(after a ten minutes) with our waitress was«you ready(to order)?» Wow. The canned music where we were sitting inside was cranked up so my friend and I were shouting at each other(we asked to lower the tunes — which a-hole bartender didn’t want to do). The menu has removed some of my favorites(house made potato chips and onion dip — great with beer) and has increased prices to levels only seen in ridiculous places like Dallas(and now Austin). For example, the French Dip sandwich is now $ 14 and a wedge salad is $ 9. Nothing incredibly special, the sandwich *is* tasty with a good au jus and a side of(commercially made) chips. My friend had the wings which were OK. The Brewhouse ales we had were $ 5 each. This was a good place but it’s definitely been slipping as of late. Its got a great location but service and pricing will make probably cause me to pass the next time the Brewhouse comes up as a place to go.

Great place to stop on the way into or out of town. BB is set right on the Colorado river and is a peaceful place to have a beer.(Yes, they do have a kiddie area, but it’s down a flight of stairs and over a hundred yards away — whoop!) Both times we’ve been at sunset and it was pretty easy to forget you were in… Bastrop.(Said in the same voice as Wayne announcing he’s in Delaware: ) The Brewhouse is built in among a series of wooden cabins essentially, that, as I understand, also hold a whiskey bar(but has yet to be open the couple times we’ve gone). We’ve always at on the(dog-friendly) patio but it looks pretty large inside. It’s been moderately busy when we’ve gone but we’ve always found parking(fyi — it’s a dirt/gravel«lot») and a spot on the deck so that’s a bonus. For a Brewhouse, I’m not impressed with the selection of beer they have on tap(about 15) and they have been out of one or two each time I’ve visited which is definitely a fail. Minus a star, sad face. Alas, we’ve managed to find something tasty to enjoy, including most recently the That’s What She Said double chocolate stout. Good stuff. Burgers are great and they have some unusual combos(ex: Caribbean patty with plantains, yum) or you can build your own. The chips on the side are solid and I recommend you get some of the«dip» on the side.(No need to order and appetizer portion — it’s way too much dip and way too many chips.) For burgers and beer in the middle of nowhere, I suspect you can’t top this!

Sprawling down the steep bank of the Colorado River, tucked behind the historic downtown of Bastrop, this brewhouse made me wish I wasn’t on my way back to Houston and had time to grow roots for the day. Varied pub-food menu is average to good. Sausage on a pretzel bun was ok, and the bun was sourdough not pretzel, but the green chili mac and cheese was addictive. Park your usual expectations of the potato salad, this one is served warm and with sauerkraut mixed in. Think mashed potatoes with lots of extras. Tasty but not what you expected. Of course, the two main reasons to go here would be sitting outside by the river with a cold, local brew in hand while watching the kayaks go by or listening to a band. Their beer board is on the LCD TVs scatted about, which includes their year-round and seasonal brews, along with beer from other Texas breweries. Enjoyed their year-round honey brown, nice for those days when you just don’t feel like hops. One odd note — guys bathroom is stalls only, which can seriously impede the throughput rate. Highly recommend they re-think that.

First I think this place is getting a bad rap and is a bit understood from Unilocalers. Some seem to be looking for fine dining, others yearning for the poetic style of artichoke dip only found at Applebee’s. I see it as a brew house/ice house that wants to be the neighborhood spot for all bastrop. I have enjoyed lunch/beers with my dad here, beer with a buddy and dinner with my family(including 4year old). What makes this place special is their want and ability to make everyone from 4 to 70 welcome and comfortable. You want to sit at bar to drown your sorrows step to the left over there, live music why it’s just outside, four year old with the energy of a thousand suns outside to the right. This is the best spot between Austin to Houston to grab a beer and enjoy pub fare in a relaxed, comfortable environment. The food, house brew, and service will mature with time. In the mean time grab a beer, a good bite to eat and enjoy the Colorado river while supporting a local place that is making bastrop not only a better place to live, but also a better place to visit. The world does not need any more Applebee’s. I upgraded to 5 stars but that is a bit of a stretch. Victoria the server extrodinaire made for the extra star, but the food still needs a bit of work. My chix was a bit dry, however, it was served quickly, the beer(double ipa) was stellar and the service could not have been been better. Special nod to Victoria who went down to the beer garden to let my family know the food was served. Wow! I am sure they can not do that when it’s busy, but wow! I live in Chicago, but visit family here often. I am appreciative of this place being here. Reminds me of what Austin was like in the 90’s.

The ladyfriend’s family lives in Houston, so we often stop at the Bastrop brewhouse on our way home from Houston. What a great spot in Bastrop! Gorgeous view from their porch/patio area of the river. The porch is dog friendly, so bring your pups. The food is good. I’m a vegetarian, so I always go for their veggie patty with goat cheese. It’s delicious. Beer selection is good, but one gripe is that they never seem to have all of their beers in stock(they brew their own). I would highly recommend the beers that they brew themselves. Their Kolsch was light, a perfect summer-time beer, their Rye-IPA will knock your socks off, and their Imperial Stout tasted like liquid chocolate. Very good stuff.

Bastrop Brewhouse had pretty good food, pretty good beer and a nice atmosphere, but we had a few hangups while we were there. My husband and I along with a few friends were traveling back to Austin from the Sherwood Forest Faire when our friend suggested we stop here for dinner, upon the suggestion of a friend of his. We were seated pretty quickly by the nice hostesses in the back room that had larger tables. Our drink orders were taken pretty quickly as well. Unfortunately, they were out of two of their beers,(the kolsch and something else) which should never happen at a brew house. Secondly, the beers that were ordered took forever to get to us. it had to have been at least 15 minutes before my friends got their beers. This should also never happen at a brew house. On to the food… I had the pesto fettuccine with chicken. It was mainly meh. It had some good veggies to it, but there wasn’t enough chicken or vegetables in relation to the noodles and the entire dish was a little bland. Everyone else really liked their meals — the fish and chips looked excellent, the Ruben was one of the best my husband has ever had, and our other friend said his chicken pesto sandwich and homemade chips were really good. The boys also ordered chili and said it was ok — it had a sweet flavor to it that neither of them were really into. The pricing for everything was a little bit higher than I was expecting for a brew house. Our waitress was a mixed bag of attentiveness and MIA the entire evening. While she was very nice, I think that maybe she was spread a little too thin on tables. Otherwise, the ambiance was really cool. They have a beer garden, a bunch of outside decks with views of the river and the restaurant is situation in a cluster of weathered little buildings that have been decorated to have an old feel to them. It’s a neat concept and a cool idea, I really liked it. I’d really love to give more stars here but a brew house should never be out of it’s own beer, it shouldn’t take forever to get your beer, and my entrée could have been better, with lower pricing. So, three stars it is. I’d venture to go back here sometime… I really did think it was cool.

One major caveat for my review: The brewery wasn’t active when I was there, so I didn’t get to try their own beer Pros: Loved the setting, the patio and view is awesome, little bit out of the way if your’e passing through Bastrop but worth a visit. Lots of space, had a band setting up the day I was there. Cons: Food wasn’t great. Not bad, but come for the beer. Didn’t have much seasoning, but the portions were generous. Service was pretty slow, but at least very friendly. I need to go back and try again when their beer is ready, but you really can’t beat hanging out on the patio.
