Great ambience and service. We had super delicious lamb chops and sautéed mushrooms. The filet mignon was a bit over seasoned. The wine list is limited. Mashed potatoes were delicious too. The food did not feel too heavy. That speaks to the fresh ingredients used. A must place to dine when in bastrop.

I don’t usually leave a review but this time I did. We went here last night as a party of 4. Ambience was great. Ordered drinks and wanted a specialty drink but was told the bartender won’t do anything out of the norm. Ok. Ordered onion rings as an appetizer and 15 minutes later was told they were out of them. Ordered salads before our meal and they forgot to bring them. Ordered new York steak and 10 minutes later was told they party before us ate all of them. They then tried to up sell us on a more expensive steak. The steaks were ordered med but came rare. They messed up on some of the side dishes. But we were easy going about it and ate it. The part they really set me off was when they brought the bill and made NO compensation for anything and charged full price for the substitutes we had to make. They could have left us with a positive experience by just offering something and I wouldn’t be writing this. What’s happened to customer service? This is supposed to be a high end restaurant :(

First time there, called about an hour ahead on a Friday night to create a reservation. Awesome girl on the phone, asked if it was a special occasion or not, if we preferred table or booth. Got there a few minutes early, they sat us immediately at a big booth already setup for just the two of us. Our waitress, Leah, was awesome. She walked us through the drinks and the menu. Appetizers were great, our steaks were great, along with the sides. It was great, highly recommended!

This place probably has some of the best apps you will ever eat… in Bastrop. This restaurant probably has some of the most polite and attentive wait staff you will encounter as well. I’m mainly speaking for the appetizers/salad here.(I don’t order steak here any longer) The Caprese is always spot on and fresh, all ingredients are present in excellent ratios. the bruschetta is the best in town. The garlic aioli provides wonderful flavor without being overpowering. I dare say its some of the best bruschetta I’ve ever had. add shrimp or crab, you can’t go wrong. The lobster bisque, while delicious, isn’t as good as it used to be. It seems to have taken on a slightly more acidic flavor. It used to be a little sweeter/creamier. The bread is always good and warm though i wish the butter was softer. I suggest ordering some Oscar sauce to go along with it instead. The crab cakes are pretty darn good and really the only place in Bastrop that you can get them anymore. They get –2 stars because i have ordered the NY Strip here twice and twice it has been overcooked and tough, while the apps are delicious, this is a steakhouse. and also because on the HOMEPAGEOFTHEIRWEBSITE, they talk about this dining spot being a quiet reprieve from the day, which at these prices it should be. What they fail to mention, is that they also have an adjoining room in which they host giant parties and the only room separation from the main dining area is black curtain On one of my dining occasions there was some sort of party in the other room which had tons of little loud children which would run back and forth between the main area and the reserved party area. I feel bad for the couple that was there trying to enjoy their anniversary. The bottom line is, if you want to stop in and maybe get a couple small dishes its perfect for that. If you’re looking for good meat, head on into Austin and check out Ruth’s Chris or Fogo de Chao for pretty much the same price. On a side note, they serve sushi here on Tuesday and Thursday. It is overpriced and they really only have 3 ingredients to present to you in a few different rolls. Or you could order the«Nagiri» as they would call it. Many of your rolls will come with unagi sauce, but none of them will contain unagi. Sigh… one day Bastrop will have decent sushi. I would compare someone eating here and saying they love sushi being like someone eating taco bell and saying they love Mexican food

Very nice place to eat and the food is good but disappointed in choices. There was no salad to begin with and the side orders with the steak were preselected by the restaurant. Steak was great, tender and cooled perfectly. Bread was brought to the table without a bread knife to cut it with and the butter was hard as a rock. All in all not bad but there are better steakhouses to choose from.

Love this place! Simple décor in a wonderful old building. Moved to Bastrop less than a year ago and it’s our new favorite place to go to for a great dinner. My husband always gets a steak and loves them, I typically have seafood and have not been disappointed. The service has improved recently(ahem…Michael) it seems or maybe we are just getting accustomed to the slower pace that is Bastrop!

I’m afraid I have to agree with the folks that say they’re too expensive. While I agree with the reviewer who said that their prices are on-par with what you’d expect from a nice steakhouse in Austin, the experience was not. The experience wasn’t wholly bad, and I would probably be writing a 4 star review if the menu were half the price. However, for a premium price, I expect a premium experience. I have no qualms about paying a $ 300 bill at Truluck’s, because I feel like I’ve had a $ 300 evening at the end of it all. Here are a few things that left me wishing for more: — No dinner salad or soup option(this is normally included with a meal at most steakhouses). — Both of our steaks were overcooked, we ordered mid-rare, and there was no pink left, which is seriously overcooked on an inch-thick NY strip. The waiter didn’t wait for us to cut into our steaks after bringing them, and the first person to ask how the food was was the waitress from another table, nearly 15 minutes later. We had other plans later this evening so we didn’t want to wait around to send them back at that point. — No option on the sides. You get mashed potatoes(which were severely lacking on flavor) and green beans. If you want something different, you have to pay $ 2.50 more and it substitutes for both of the standard sides. — Our waiter, like the whole experience, wasn’t the worst I’ve ever had, but certainly wasn’t what you expect for the price. Never asked if we wanted another drink after finishing our first. Didn’t seem concerned about the fact that my wife only ate about a ¼ of her steak(the middle ¼ that wasn’t completely dry and rubbery) and instead just offered a box before bringing the check. — The restaurant is attached to a sports bar. They share a kitchen and it shows. You can hear yelling from the bar side coming from the kitchen. I really wanted this place to be great so my wife and I would have a nice local place to go for a special evening out without a drive into Austin. Unfortunately it just left us underwhelmed. From what I understand, they’ve just changed hands, so maybe they’re still working out the kinks. Maybe we’ll give them another try down the road, but for now, it seems the drive to Austin will continue to be the best option.

I wasn’t fortunate enough to have a full meal at Piney Creek, but I can attest to its desserts, service and ambiance. I stumbled across the establishment after a full(mediocre) Mexican meal and a long, hot, evening walk through town while there for business. I was thrilled to find it in what seemed to be a fine dining desert. The manager and servers were gracious hosts despite my very-casual and disheveled appearance. They welcomed me in, accommodated my wine requests(«can I have a HALF glass of wine? Just a little bit?»), made me some fresh decaf and gave me the best bread pudding I can remember having. Served in a bowl, it actually resembles its«pudding» namesake, and veers away from the more typical dense, cake-like version. It is sweet, sweet, sweet, but in a good way; and the consistency is perfect. I would suggest that it not be sprinkled with confectioner’s sugar, however, to avoid sugar overkill. But it was still memorable and so satisfying, and makes me wish I had a reason to go back to Bastrop so I could sample the rest of their menu. If you ever have business in Bastrop, don’t despair! There IS a worthwhile dining destination outside of the city limits.

My wife and I came here to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, and we could not be more pleased with our experience. Service was excellent, and the food was amazing: bread hot and tasty, scallops perfect, bruschetta was different and lived up to its«award winning» status, filet mignon was perfectly cooked medium rare with a sear crust and cut with a butter knife, and all the sides were just as good. I shouldn’t leave off the bread pudding, which the server talked me into — so good and creamy! I’m definitely coming back!

We’ve dined at the Chop House several times since the switch(new owners). The steaks are consistently delicious. I hear it often in the community that they’re too expensive. It’s the same prices as nice steak restaurants in Austin, but it’s local. It’s my family’s go-to«celebration» restaurant. Order a steak and the blue cheese sauce… you won’t want anyone to talk to you while you chew and moan. The bar is gorgeous. We love to pop in for lobster bisque(served with to-die-for homemade bread) and a few martinis. A great date night and we’re home in 15 minutes.

We have tried this place twice, once when it was Hasler Bros., then tonight when we both REALLY wanted a steak, hoping the«new management» had changed things. Both times we were disappointed when the«experienced» bartender didn’t know how to make some of the most basic cocktails. The menu has a delicious sounding list of not only starters, but salads, sides and entrees as well. While«1» of us waited for a beverage that was ordered, however never served,(yet billed for) we ordered our appetizer, that itself never arrive(presumably) until after our departure. Our server however was very knowledgeable, helpful, patient and personable. After our second visit to this establishment, I feel it was probably our mistake to expect«5 star» service from a restaurant that shares the same kitchen as the corner bar next door. Never Again. :-((

The steaks rock and the service is first rate — I must say that I’ve been to plenty of restaurants all across the country and Piney Creek’s steaks are so consistent #BuyitinBastrop

This place is absolutely the best in Bastrop. First and foremost the food is great. There’s not a single thing on the menu that I would not recommend. Second, the service is the best you’ll find bar none. The servers are classy, respectful and professional. Third, management is the best I’ve ever seen. The manager on duty was a pleasure to meet. Rhonda is a real class act. Besides being drop dead gorgeous she is obviously great at what she does. The restaurant is a well run, very nice place to dine. When you’re done eating you can walk through a door and go belly up to a very nice sports bar. I love this place! Highly recommend.

Enjoyed a yummy and beautiful dinner here last night. The staff was warm and attentive and far from pretentious, everyone made us feel welcome, even with our 22 month-old in tow & without a reservation(Something I swore I would never do at a nice restaurant, but such is life!). The owner even kindly took the time to greet us and chat for a while about his own kids. I enjoyed the dragon roll very much — fresh & delicious. Oh, and the chocolate martini was Ahhh-mazing, if I didn’t have to drive, I would have ordered another! Looking forward to returning soon.
