We had breakfast here on our way to Austin, we were not disappointed. I had eggs sausage and grits. Portions are small. Biscuit looked like dinner rolls, not enough grits. Food was ok! Price was high for the amount of food. My wife liked the homemade biscuits

Hubby and I stopped for a late breakfast after he had blood drawn this morning. I do not know her name but our waitress was young with pretty long blonde hair and fantastic! Kept our coffee cups filled and served our breakfast promptly, even brought me a fork that I was missing. You get a huge plate ful of very good food. Egg was fried to perfection, hash browns crispy on outside and warm in the middle. Biscuits were huge and a meal in themselves, then served with gravy on the side. wow! So happy to read that there is no longer smoking allowed. That would have kept us from ever coming in and what a shame that would have been, enjoyed our meal and we will be back!

We didn’t come here for a long time because of the reviews but finally did on a Sunday morning since so much else is closed. It was great! The food was traditional and good. Exactly what we were in the mood for. The service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. We will be back.

Not fancy. But, good food, fair prices. Will return. Note: They are only open for breakfast and lunch.

Great cafeteria style lunches for cheap! A lot of people don’t realize they no longer allow smoking inside so that is a big plus. Dining room staff are«country friendly».

Haven’t even gotten my good yet and ready to walk out. Worried I might get scabies from the waitress. Nasty ass place.

This place should be avoided. Served chicken and dumplings with a box of salt in them. Told waitress and she did nothing. Said they knew someone screwed up. Fortunately Bastrop now has chicken fil A and other good restaurants! Keep driving!

This is one where I wish you could do negatives. Disgusting food. Absolutely disgusting. I used to meet with a group here, but we finally voted that none of us wanted to order any food.

Wife and I stopped here a couple of weeks ago and decided to go for the buffet at lunch. Probably a bad idea. I ordered CFS off the menu last time in and it was very good. The CFS on the buffet was dry and meat inside a huge crust shell was not good. Also had the corn salad… terrible choice. The star of this show is the yeast rolls. Huge loaf of bread.

Breakfast is the only meal we have had so far. We weren’t dissapointed. While I agree, it’s like stepping back in time and it’s not the best atmopshere, the food was good, the waitress friendly, and service was good. We will return!
Good homestyle cooking. Great breakfast, cooked just how we ordered it. Salad bar. We were with a large group one of our visits and they handled up wonderfully.

I have been going here for years. I love their breakfasts as well as their entrees– try the patty melt. They have a buffet, but not sure what days/times. The place is large and retro– not on purpose, just hasn’t changed through the decades. Service is good and the staff is friendly. You pay at the counter, not through your server. Deserts– cakes and pies are made fresh daily– try the peanut butter pie. Portions are large, so be prepared!

This spot is interesting… when you walk through the door it is like stepping into a large version of your grandmothers dinning room, that was modern in 1950, and has become stuck in time. Don’t let the room fool you, grandma is still in the kitchen! Texas Grill serves BIG portions so bring your appetite, you will NOT be disappointed. We ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and Half a Fried Chicken meals and both were mouthwatering and scrumptious. The fried chicken was just right with a thin fried exterior and a tender, juicy interior. LOVED this antique spot. Well worth the outing.

OK, so I’m hungry and looking for a place to eat. I have out of state plates and am wearing an OZZY t-shirt(see where this is going yet?) and I pop into the TEXASGRILL. I’m alone so I’m sitting ATTHECOUNTER next to the WAITRESSSTATION(keep that in mind). They reluctantly take my order and after a while, reluctantly serve me my meal. Then, I am left for dead. There is no one comming to check on me, no one noticing my glass is now empty. Then the doors blow open and in walks JETHROBODINE2.0 — his Wranglers are airbrushed on, his boots are covered in feicies, his belt buckle has serving platters trembling on their knees saying«we’re not worthy… we’re not worthy», and of course the required 10 gallon hat rest upon his head like a crown. VIOLA!!! The waitresses magically remember what good service is and FLOCK arround him! He is quicly seated and served and the waitresses ensure his every whim is imediately taken care of. Me and the few other customers they had are now completely invisible, lost in the glare of Jethro’s tobacco stained smile. I remember thinking, «I just got a tiny taste of what it feels like to be black». So, if you aint a local or you are not«one of them», I suggest you roll on. They dont serve«our kind».

In my search for a good chicken fried steak, I stopped by the Texas Grill for lunch on my way to HEB. I walked in and did as the sign said, and seated myself. The server was on top of it and came over to me with two choices. A buffet style lunch, where you pick what you want and are charged accordingly, or a CFSteak from the menu for $ 10. I opted for the menu one because she said it was bigger. I got my side salad quickly, and it was delicious and fresh, I think she added a bit much cheese, but it was good. Ten minutes later I had my steak and fries. The fries were good, hot and crispy. The steak… the white gravy was in a paper cup, ewww, I cut into the edge and there was all crust, no steak. When this steak came out, I though, wow, eyes are bigger than my stomach! Not! about ¼ of this was empty breading, and the breading that was on the steak was loose and just fell off, makes me wonder how he got it from the fryer to the plate. The breading was tastless and bland. I will probably go back again, someday, but not for chicken fried steak. Oh, and Joyce T, I am glad they went liveral freaks and stopped you smokers from ruining my food and social time. Just sayin’

New to Bastrop, so we have been trying out new places. Mother in law came to town so we went to Maxines because we have been there before and know how good it is. Well, maxines was closed, so we decided to try out this restaraunt. The iced tea was not fresh or good at all. I normally drink 3 or more glasses, but only managed to get half of one glass down. I noted before I ordered that everthing was overpriced, but I just assumed the portions would be huge. I couldn’t have been more wrong. I ordered the beef burger for almost 7 dollars… fries cost extra also… This 7 dollar burger was crap, smaller than a McDonalds quarter pounder, and the bread was terrible. Cheap buns squished and broke easily. I was pissed. My wifes BLT was just as disappointing, and my mother in law’s chicken salad sandwich was bad too. I have seen better food cooked /prepared on the beach, or some camping trips. To top it off, paying at the register was just as bad as the food. What an old angry b! tch working up there. She was pissed off at me and the world. And I didn’t do or say anything wrong! Never coming back for lunch or dinner… We do plan on giving breakfast a chance… sigh In short: overpriced gas station food.

My co-worker and I stopped by for breakfast. I enjoyed. A lot of past discussion on smoking. Appears to be smoke free. I had eggs, sausage, biscuits, hash brown, and coffee. The biscuits were fresh and fluffy. The hash browns were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, the eggs cooked as ordered(scrambled). The only disappointment was the sausage. The sausage had no flavor. The coffee was strong, but good. The service was pretty good. We work EMS, so we are in a hurry, you never know when a call is going to drop and you have to run out the door. It seemed to take a time to place out order, but once placed, the service was excellent. We had a false call and almost had to run out the door. Our waitress had our food delivered in to go containers in case we got a second call. Look forward to trying out lunch.

Of all the places between Houston and Brownwood someone could stop, this has got to be one of the worst. The food is straight up overpriced on the menu, but sometimes they have a cafeteria style line set up and then you can get out of there for less than $ 10. However, the food is sub par, bland, tasteless and all around not worth the $ 6 I paid for it. I can’t comment on the service, cause we really didn’t have any. On the way to annual training with the guard, the whole convoy stopped here… I’ve had better food when deployed for a hurricane!

Any place that ALLOWS smoking gets my vote! Went for breakfrast a few weeks ago and had the steak and eggs with cheesy grits and toast. The coffee was good, the steak was kinda cold, and the grits were instant. But that’s what I’d expect from the look of the place! I was full at the end, and didn’t feel sick later, so it wasn’t that bad. Today the wife and I had the chicken fried steak. It was good. The breading was basic and cooked just right. We were afraid of the salad bar at first, but it had pears and cantaloupe and was actually cold and pretty fresh. I’ve been to worse salad bars! Of course, my evil smoker taste buds could have been fooled, but for me and the wife, it has been a nice place to visit to get away from all the noisy big places in Austin.
