My first job. And I’m a librarian now. Must have had a good effect on me. Very family oriented, bustling public library. Friendly staff, with updated equipment. The fiction collection is great — and though the«urban renewal ell» of the building is functional, it isn’t very pretty. The original building, a gift from the über wealthy Richmond Family, is beautiful. A huge fireplace(that was lit in the winter, when I was a kid) graces on wall of the Mystery/Reading room. Comfy chairs, a few tables, and lots of newspapers. Small city — but the newspapers opened my eyes to a bigger world. This room also contains portraits of the founders, and amazing old world windows. The library offers story times, an amazing Western NY genealogy collection, and plays host to the Literacy Council. The staff is friendly. Just remember to bring your books back on time! And for such a small library, they are staffed well with friendly and competent degreed Librarians. Always a mark of a fine library. And a note of interest, the parking lot for the library was the former site of the Richmond Mansion, which was torn down back in the day. Thank them each time you park there that they gave such an amazing gift to the city.
