Outstanding Indian food-best I’ve found in south Louisiana! Dosa was amazing, as was the tandoori salmon and saag paneer. Definitely will be back!

The best place to get Indian food(believe it when an Indian is saying this). Have been in BR for about a year now and I really do not have any other place in town that has better food. The ambience and service pretty much matches that of a fine dining restaurant. However, I prefer the A La Carte menu than the buffet(which is a littler lackluster). I would also go ahead and say that this could be the first choice of getting good quality Indian food in Louisiana.

So this marks 4 restaurants in the entire Baton Rouge area that is worthy to dine at. My husband and I have travelled quite a bit and have a very seasoned palate and appreciation for good food, so moving to Baton Rouge from philly has been a nightmare. Possibly the worst dining/food experience of my life since moving here, so that’s why eating at Bayleaf has been such a delight. It’s authentic Indian food, which has been very hard to find Here because Baton Rouge seems to put a Cajun twist on literally everything and it ruins the entire meal, i.e. Italian food should not have Cajun seasoning in it. Ever. Bravo Bayleaf– I will be a returning customer!

Omg love this place! One of my favorite restaurants. The Lamb Chops Masaledar is my current favorite dish here, its the most tender lamb ive ever had. The naan bread was like a cloud. Indian foo is usually spicy so make sure to ask about the dishes before you order IF you dont like spicy which isnt a problem for me because i love spicy.

We used to visit this restaurant because they served better Indian food here compared to the other Indian restaurants in town. However, that is not true any longer. I am thinking that the chef quit and they hired a new chef, who is not as good. We have tried both the buffet and the a la carte food here and it is not good. The buffet food has a whole lot of cooking soda in it which should be used in small quantities to fluff up the rice grains. Unfortunately, it is used in quantities here that make you feel full after eating small portions of the food. The after-effects of eating this food were not good for me either. The taste of the food is not good either, the flavors are all in wrong proportions. The manager and the staff are friendly and the service is prompt, but unfortunately, this does not make up for the sub-standard food served here. For the price that we pay here, I would really expect better food. I think that there are better restaurants that have opened in town for Indian food. Unilocal does not let me give zero stars, because in my opinion, this place does not deserve even that one star.

Possibly the best restaurant serving Indian food. Coming from an Indian that should add the authenticity. # the problem with some of the Indian restaurants is that they add baking soda in their buffet and usually that fills your stomach more than usual without you being able to eat a lot. This happens to me usually in bay leaf too. So I avoid their buffet and usually go there during dinners only. Dinner hasn’t had such a problem. # bay leaf certainly has amazing deserts. The Gulab jamun is a milk condensed from slow heating mixed with saffron and other spices which is then fried in a ball and dipped in sugar syrup. The value and the texture is amazing. You can tell the Gulab jamun is good if the consistency inside is uniform and it’s not very solid but rather spongy. Bay leaf makes some of the amazing Gulab jamuns closer to what we get back home. # their breads are soft and freshly prepared. — called Nan. Try the garlic nan which is the Indian version of garlic bread # the bread usually goes well with a gravy curry item. Chicken tikka masala, the navratan korma or the paneer butter masala are my favorite here. # their biryani(rice slow cooked with spices and marinated meat) is also very good. We use a lot of chicken back in India So the chicken biryanis are amazing. # the ambience is also good for either a fine or a casual dining. # the manager is a really chatty guy and takes care of his guests. # the South Indian menu which consists of Dosa(rice crepes with powdered lentils) and it’s many Variants are also very well made here.

It’s good but nothing special. It’s close to where I always am and I don’t have to fight Essen to get to India’s. The dishes are on the spicy which I like. I always tend to find the random cold items on the buffet. I love the fresh naan. But the price is a little steep for $ 11 plus drink.

Bay Leaf has a great lunch buffet. My coworkers and I go there every week. The food is great and the service is outstanding.

I really like this place I ate so much chicken curry and bread until I felt like I was going to pop. It was so good I couldn’t stop eating, and that dessert with the orange custard I don’t know what it was but I had maybe 4 bowls of it. It’s so elegant in there, the atmosphere is just quiet if you want to go by yourself to eat lunch I would suggest going there bring a book or your iPad and just relax and enjoy

The AYCE lunch Buffet here is above average. But given the limited options for Indian food in BR. This is as good as it gets. The tandoori chicken and the andhra chicken which is part of the buffet is worth the price of admission. Very relaxing and good service BUT at times SLOW as molasses service hence the 4 star review… I don’t expect a flood of customers for Indian food around these parts. But I could be wrong. Serving two different types of naan, roti and the papadum is a nice touch above and beyond what you normally get. BL doesn’t just focus on a specific part of Indian cuisine. You get a great variety of southern and northern dishes here. The entrée prices were in the $$$ category but the appearance of the interior perhaps«justifies» their prices. Lipstick on a pig perhaps. I suggest just come for the buffet… even if you eat like a bird… you still get your bang for your buck$! Namaste.

I have to admit — I wasn’t wild about trying this place when first recommended by colleagues. However, I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed my lunch visit. I typically stay away from buffet style restaurants, but Bay Leaf was a treat. The service was nice and fast. Drove was nice, but comfortable. My favorites on the buffet were the butter chicken, lamb and rice. I also had a bit of salad. The naan bread was absolutely heavenly — yum!!! I’m happy that I gave it a shot. I’m happy to see a little diversity in the ethnic cuisine in Baton Rouge.

So delicious! Wow! They don’t have many restaurants like this in Baton Rouge and this place is amazing! The curry chicken and the Mailai Kabob and chicken jelfranzi are MAGNIFICENT!!! You cannot go wrong with these 3 dishes! Go here. Very nice people. They don’t all speak the best English but that’s any different cuisine restaurant. It’s a little pricey but think about how expensive these spices they are using are. It’s totally worth it! Oh and sometimes they have groupons so check on there too before you pay your bill.

I’ve been here quite a bit. They have some great curry dishes, love their tandoori shrimp. Oh, and definitely like their garlic naan. Staff is friendly and the food is good. I have to be fair, It’s not the best Indian food I’ve had, I’d give it a B for flavor. But in the area, it’s the place to go. My recommendation, try the Tandoori Shrimp and get the Garlic Naan with the cucumber sauce. Restaurant: I think you do a good job, I think the only thing that I could say is lacking is just that little extra to make your food go from good to great. I’m not sure if its some of the possible shortcuts from not using the freshest ingredients, possibly pre made curries. But having had really fresh Indian food before, you can tell its missing that little extra to give the deep rich flavors. However, thats being picky. Your food does taste good, and probably the best in the area.

Walked in around 9:40pm on Friday night, quite a few tables were still enjoying dinner– we ordered To-go ahead of time for pickup. DELICIOUS!!! Well spiced Indian food, delicious fresh baked breads, such aromatic rices– We ordered the Jalfrezi pulao spiced with saffron, and our favorite Saag paneer! The owner walks around and tends to the guests in his restaurant. Nice classy atmosphere with the most mouthwatering aromas permeating the restaurant … Will be back again and again!

Friday lunch buffet $ 11/person way less options than weekend buffet. A little overpriced for what you get! Nothing was that great but good enough to get your Indian fix. Favorite was the tomato soup & cream spinach. Most dishes are pretty spicy, there wasn’t a mild option.

We ordered a veggie biryani and a mixed grill to go. The food was well packaged and still decently hot when we got home. The biryani is absolutely delicious and goes well with the green mint/cilantro chutney. The mixed grill was very flavorful. I loved all the lamb pieces(and I am very picky with lamb). The only thing I didn’t think was that great was the salmon. Overall, I would definitely order from here to go. As a whole though, I prefer to get their buffet when I can.

Decided to go here for dinner on a Wednesday night and should of came sooner. I waited a little bit for them to seat me once I arrived, but who cares their food is delicious. I mean everything was cooked to perfection and perfect temperature. I had the chicken tikka masala and hands down the best I have had in a long time. I will be back here for dinner absolutely fantastic! Great job to the owner and crew. BTW the owner walks around and greets guests and helps out on the floor. Great job Bay Leaf!

I enjoyed the lunch buffet. It had a decent amount of spice and a wide enough range of selections to have something for everyone. I loved the cucumber salad, the gobi cauliflower, and the paneer. The green mint sauce was also delicious. I thought the naan was cooked just right. I wasn’t a fan of the fried onions or the kheer. This place also has above average service and psychedelic trance Indian music playing which was another highlight for me, but may not be for everyone. When I’m craving Indian food this place will certainly work. Recommended.

This is hands-down the best Indian food I’ve had in Baton Rouge. The staff is nice enough to customize my favorite dish with fish(instead of lamb), now that I’m only doing fish. The food has always been fresh. I hate buffets, but will eat here. I love that the selection changes and there are always lots of good veggie options.
