The best tamales I have ever eat. My husband said the same thing. We had the ribeye and it was delicious. Service was great.

I’ve been to Doe’s in Paducha, KY a few times while there for business and enjoyed the experience. I was happy to see there was a location in Baton Rouge when we relocated here in Mid 2015. Although Doe’s is a steak house, my favorite dishes were the tamales and spaghetti on my visits in KY. We decided to visit Doe’s in BR during restaurant week. I went in fully intending to eat off of the Restaurant Week menu. But when I got the full menu and saw the tamales, I could not resist. I was sad not to see spaghetti on the menu, looking to pair two old favorites, so I just ordered a dozen tamales with a side salad. The tamales came out wrapped in paper, piping hot with a cup of chili, the same way they are served up North. And they did not disappoint me. Corn masa with a meaty pork filling. The chili is like whipped cream on top for me. Its not essential for the dish, but oh it is so good! I have to say, the food at this franchise location is just as good as the family owned location in KY. I did sample BF’s steak during our visit in BR, and it was really good. Unfortunately, I’m not much of a steak girl and for me the tamales still win my heart. I did learn that Doe’s does have spaghetti on its lunch menu and the kids menu. That has me thinking I’m ordering from the kids menu next visit.

I can’t say that I get the hype for this place. I literally hated everything I had here, including the filet. I had a steak at a community organization banquet last week that was better, and that steak was cooked solid well done. The only steak I’ve had that was worse was the first one I ever cooked myself. So what was wrong? First there was no flavor to the meat. I don’t know if they even salted the steak at all. And maybe that’s the point, maybe they’re letting the meat speak for itself. But the meat wasn’t good. It had very little flavor and what it did have was some strange seasoning that I couldn’t identify. I really want to stress that I’m not some steak snob. I’ve had TGI Fridays steaks that I liked, and I’ve had steaks at $ 100 a cut Texas steakhouses. Sure, the expensive ones were melt in your mouth amazing and the TGI Fridays was simply ok, I enjoyed them both. This was a whole different story. Everything else? I got the salad and boiled potatoes. The boiled potatoes tasted like the boiled potatoes that you do with crawfish – pure crab boil. Sure those are good in the right context, but not at a steak house. The salad was laughable; lettuce with generic dressing. Finally, the bread tasted like the beignets my dad used to make and my dad sucked at making beignets(love ya dad!) I should’ve listened to my girlfriend, because when we walked in she said«It smells really weird in here.» I thought about leaving but didn’t want to drive around anymore. She got the chicken Caesar salad. It was the worst caesar dressing I’ve had, waaay too much anchovy. Check my other reviews, I hand out 4 and 5 star reviews all the time. I’m easy to please, but this was terrible. Please do not go here.

If you are looking for a casual dining place with an amazing steak, this is definitely the place! My boyfriend and I went for Restaurant Week. He got the ribeye and I got the New York strip. They both were very flavorful and cooked perfectly! The mashed potatoes were homemade and tasted delicious! If you can manage to squeeze in dessert, the éclair is the way to go!

What a disappointment… looked forward to Restaurant Week at Doe’s. Good service, really bad food. Go somewhere else.

This is our favorite steakhouse anywhere. Louisiana, Alabama etc. We have never had bad food of any sort there and and it is always fresh and very special. I would not think of going somewhere else and ordering a steak. Their tamales are fantastic and I always get some to bring home. The service is by far superior to many other restaurants in Baton Rouge. When they created this place they did it right. We eat out a good bit and if I compare this to other places steak wise it is Number 1. You get your money’s worth. The staff is friendly and always finds time to help you make just the right choice. You will not be disappointed. I do not often write reviews but had to take time to write this one.

The only thing I enjoy more than Mexican food is a nice piece of STEAK ! And Doe’s is the BESTLOCAL steakhouse in Baton Rouge, Hands down. Their meat is of such great quality. You pay per pound. The only thing I have not tried yet is their sirloin! This time I had the porterhouse which comes in 1.5, 2,2.5, 3lbs cuts! The 1.5 alone is definitely enough to share but I am greedy with my steak and want it all to myself!(which I conquered in a 2 day span!) The tamales + chili are a must item as well. And their drop biscuits(fried dough balls with honey similar to a beignet without the sugar) The atmosphere is very casual(even a tv in the bar area) which is an enjoyable experience I can fine dine in my comfy clothes! Their bartender & «Cocktail king», George Krause(who is so knowledgeable & friendly) has won numerous awards in the city & can make you whatever delicious craft cocktail your heart desires. I recommend letting him mix up a masterpiece of his own and you will not be disappointed!

Great place to eat! I went here with another person and we split a steak which was more than enough for the both of us seeing as we had leftovers! Steaks either come with boiled potatoes or fries and we chose fries which were very lackluster but the main star is of course the steak that was melt in your mouth tender and delicious!

Mmmmm, where do I begin? The house salad dressing was good but it was only regular lettuce no spinach or romaine and the shrimp bisque was tasty. The only other minus I saw, was that the crackers for the soup were stale, soft. I guess no one goes to eat crackers so they have room for the steak. Then came the merlot, yummy. Then came the meal, superb. The bread rounds were delish, as was the 2 pound medium well done boneless rib eye with red potatoes and butter. The boiled shrimp were to die for. Will definitely come back for more! Yummy. Still giving them a5 for everything else. I hope they fix those two little hiccups. Ooh and can’t forget the scrumptious éclair came, it was fabulous!

When they brought out our 2.5 pound ribeye steak, I honestly thought«They brought us the entire cow»! Luckily we went on an evening that was slow. The steak was amazing. The drop biscuits remind me of ones my grandmother used to make. The French fries and boiled potatoes were delicious. I will totally be going back! Tamales will be happening. 100% happy with this meal.

I tried Doe’s for dinner this past Friday and I was blown away! I just recently started eating steak and after Friday night, I’m wondering what have I been missing! The food and service is excellent! The menu is not extensive, but I like a restaurant that knows what they’re good at and serving just that. On to the food… The steak dinner comes with a marinated salad, fries or boiled red potatoes, and drop biscuits. I ordered the Mac and cheese as an al a carte side as well. I started with the marinated salad that has a simple dressing of olive oil, lemon juice, and garlic. It was good, but I mixed in a little ranch and it was even better. The Mac and cheese was really good too. It was a simple cheese sauce and had melted cheese on top. It had a bite to it as well. I’m not sure if it was black pepper or maybe cayenne, but it was definitely amazing. The drop biscuits reminded me of donut holes but not sweet or anything. They were so light and fluffy. Perfect for sopping up the juice from the steak! Lol Now the steak… I ordered the 1.5 lb porterhouse cooked medium well. Like I said, I’m new to steak, so I’m not into steaks cooked to the bloody temperatures like most, but mine was perfect! The seasoning on it was so simple so I could taste the flavor of the meat which was divine! I’m going to stop right there because I could talk for days about how good that steak tasted! I got the fries on the side. They weren’t «life-changing» like the waiter proclaimed, but I’m not a big fan of natural cut fries either. I have to say that they were still good and I did enjoy them. If you’re looking for a great steak, this is THE place! It is a little pricey because the steaks are served by the pound, but it’s worth every penny! Doe’s has an old-fashioned country home feel to it. No need to get all dressed up and make a reservation. And I really liked the fact that it’s very casual. It’s a very laid back atmosphere and I love that!

Tried Doe’s for the first time. I must say everything was delightful ! The wait staff was very friendly to say they are always so busy! They really do a great job. The steaks were very well prepared, and the seafood was good ! Was some what dissatisfied with the gumbo though ! There was a serious lack of seasoning to say it’s a Louisiana staple ! But all in all a satisfying dining experience !

Be careful here — you WILL want to eat yourself into the meat sweats! Doe’s Eat Place has the most divine steak. Every bite is melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The sear on the steak is perfect. You will not get a steak that isn’t cooked perfectly. Personally, I’m a medium-rare gal. The medium rare Porterhouse will literally make you want to lick the plate! It’s easy to forget about all the other options once you have a taste of the steak, but other items worth a mention are: drop biscuits, fries, Mac and cheese, éclair cake and white chocolate bread pudding. The drop biscuits are dropped into a deep fryer and have a beignet-like quality. Drip local honey on top and you have a delectable side item! The fries are amazing. For an extraordinary experience, dip them in the steak juices! Mac and cheese. I’m usually pretty apathetic about m and c, but this stuff is baked and gets a magnificent crispy layer on top. Yes please! The desserts. Oh! The desserts! Strive to save a little room for these. It’s totally worth it. And, what the heck, you’ve blown the diet by this point anyway! Bön appetite!

Wow this place blew my mind for lots of reasons. First of all, the restaurant seemed like a casual and unpretentious environment. That assumption proved correct when we were seated at the bar and I heard Chef George say, «what’s up hooker?» to a regular customer. While we waited at the bar for the rest of our party to arrive we had a great time talking to the bartender. The bartender was outgoing and personable. We enjoyed our beers at the bar and even got some freshly baked cookies from the chef. What other restaurant will you see the chef walking around with a tray of gluten free cookies? So I was thoroughly thrilled even before we got to the star of the show. Once everyone arrived we sat down at a nearby table. Our server approached us in a timely manner and she greeted us warmly. She was training someone else during her shift which we didn’t mind at all. We loved having the extra attention and service lol. Chef George sat down at our table and talked to us for quite a bit before we ordered. He made some recommendations to us and he even suggested some fish entrée to someone at our table. I don’t know. I wasn’t paying much attention at this point as I was steadfast in my decision to eat meat! Orders in. Waiting commenced. Once our servers starting making their way to our tables I knew we were in for a treat. You could see from a distance that these plates were no joke. Once the plates were in front of us we were all in awe. None of us have ever seen such massive steaks in our lives. These steaks were 2 lb behemoths(just look at the pics). I ordered the porterhouse and our friends ordered the ribeye. All of us loved our steaks! The steaks were cooked just right and full of flavor. We also had the tamales as well as these sauteed mushrooms that were out of this world good. I would gladly drive to Baton Rouge just for a big bowl of these heavenly mushrooms. I will give Doe’s that 5th star once I try their ribeye. The ribeye is my favorite cut of steak and I judge all steak based on a ribeye. So loved Doe’s though! The entire staff was so warm, friendly, and fun. Kudos to the hostess, bartender, servers, and the chef. Doe’s Eat Place rocks!

The ribeye here is probably among the best I have ever tasted in my life, and I have eaten A LOT of steaks A LOT of different ways. They use a pretty tried and true method of broiling, which makes for a juicy steak; And, according to George the chef, they catch the drippings from the steak and pour them over the incredibly large marbleized cut of meat. This really allows for the meat to become very tender and leaves the steak with this perfectly salty finish. I was truly impressed with the quality of the steak here. Very good. George competed at the DIG Bartender competition last year so I had to ask for some cocktails to accompany the phenomenal steak I had just been defeated by. First he introduced me to an «electric current» designed to coat the stomach and provide a buffer for the alcohol I intended to consume. This«electric current» is an egg yolk on top of half a lemon with balsamic vinaigrette and salt and pepper. It sounds a bit strange but it was actually very tasty. Next up was a technical spin on a Ramos Gin Fizz. Using a whip cream charger, he deposited lemon and lime juice with a top shelf Gin and the egg whites from the egg into my glass in the form of a beautiful white foam. The concoction not only looked awesome but tasted fantastic. Definitely have him create you one if you have the chance. And finally, he created a very tasty Sazerac using cognac(not rye whiskey) that finished wonderfully on the heels of the previous creamy cocktail. All in all it was a very good experience. Check out Doe’s Eat Place!

The delightful aroma of tamales met us as we walked through the door. Wonderful childhood memories of going to Muffaletta’s Hot Tamales on North Blvd. raced through my mind. We were seated and ordered cocktails which were perfectly executed. After enjoying a plate of tamales between the table we were served our salads, then medium rare filets with fries and a side of mac and cheese. The gentleman with us ordered a 2.5 T-Bone with fries. I don’t know what they do to their fries, but they are not your typical french fried potato, they are better. The steaks were seasoned and cooked to perfection. Two of us split an 8 oz. filet, fries and the mac & cheese, and were more than satisfied with the amount of food, so if you prefer to eat a little lighter, they have no problem with you sharing. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful with suggestions, and the owner stopped by our table for a little conversation. I would recommend eating here whenever you are in the mood for a delicious steak, good atmosphere, and great cocktails. And don’t forget the tamales.

We started off with a group of 20 and sat in the bar area. It was great because of all the LSU items and big screen TVs all around. Really relaxed atmosphere. We had 1 waitress who was awesome she was on top of our drink orders and we didn’t have to wait for a refill. She brought out some appetizers of shrimp, and tamales. The Tamales had a side of Chili and we’re really good. We ordered and about 35 min later the biggest steaks I’ve seen started to show up. I had the 2 ½ pound Porterhouse and it was cooked just as I asked. I usually like a rare steak but this big I asked for med rare and perfection was on my plate. My wife had the rib eye and it looked just as good. I’d have to say that the steaks here are the best I’ve eaten! I’d say all 20 of us were very impressed and will be back.

So good and so full. Nice fresh and simple. Steak and fries — sometimes that’s all I need in life. I got the petit(8oz) filet mignon, he got the Queen(11 oz), both with fries. Steak was cooked to my liking, although we ordered medium rare and it came out a bit more on the rare side. I ate it all: the thick cut steak, mound of hand cut fries AND the country drop biscuits(super light) We didn’t get any sides or starters. But, saw a few float by… The fried shrimp were a good size! And fries asparagus looked great. We want to come back and try the oysters, bring a crowd so we can sample more, and check out the bar. Ps, the house wine was $ 5/glass and not too shabby!
